Simple DIY Wooden Squonk Mod
Build your own Wooden Squonk Mod with just basic tools. No Soldering iron or high tech equipment is needed - just some very basic woodworking tools.
This video is a bit longer and more detailed than my other videos, to make sure that even people with little to no experience in woodworking should be able to follow the steps.

DIY Hexagonal Nanoleaf LED Panel
มุมมอง 23K4 ปีที่แล้ว
Let me show you how I made my own RGB LED Panels inspired by the Nanoleaf Aurora lights and a video by Nerdforge. In this video I use 3D Printing as well as a Laser Cutter, to build the parts. But you don't even need these machines yourself to build these LED Panels. Nowadays lots of schools or universities have 3D Printers. Also you could search for local makers. Facebook groups or Etsy are go...

    How much does it cost to build sum thing like this all materials included?

    • @Modern-Crafts
      @Modern-Crafts ปีที่แล้ว

      This completely depends on which exact parts and materials you use, where you buy them and what tools you already have.

  • @wchen2340
    @wchen2340 ปีที่แล้ว

    I like the idea a lot as kind of a proof of concept and i think the wooden body turned out really pretty :-) But i'd stay away from the copper strip mechanism switching the full load. One day it may decide to weld itself to the connector. i think a simple switching FET and with a fuse for the LiPos should be mandatory for safety reasons and the cost only pennies.

      @Modern-Crafts ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! I've build several mods with Mosfets before, but I kind of like the mechnical simplicity of this type of mod. But I agree, that this increases the risk of creating a short circuit, if not handled properly.

    probably ended up costing the exact same amount if not more in materials and not to mention your time. plus wear and tear on your machines. wouldve been cheaper and time saving to just buy the product. plus at the end you noted some changes that you'd make, making it even more costly, design and thought all went into the original product and thus justifies its price.

    • @Modern-Crafts
      @Modern-Crafts 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for your feedback. I never criticized the cost of the original product, but still it wasn't worth it to me to spend that much money. Overall I spent roughly 60€ on my panels, so only 1/3 of what the nanoleafs would have costed me. When I built these panels, there was also no option for hexagonal nanoleafs. And of course it is faster to buy a product instead of building it yourself, but that's not the point of doing it myself. By building them myself, I could built panels the way I wanted them. They are also much brighter and more customizable. Also I don't see why I should count the time I spend on a hobby? It was a fun project to build and I learnt some new things while doing so. And knowing what I would do differently next time, also just means that I learned new things that will help me on future projects. Wear and tear on the machines? For printing a few frames? That's really neglectable. After well over 1000 hours on my printers, I only had to replace the nozzle a few times. All the other changes were modifications to decrease the noise of the printer or improve the print quality, so not related to wear and tear. And why should I own 3D printers when I am afraid of using them because they might wear out at some point?

    • @Modern-Crafts
      @Modern-Crafts 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry for the late response. I am using a 10A power supply. I wouldn't recommend to use anything smaller for 8 panels. So at least 1.25A per panel.

    Are the 510 connectors for vape mods special or can I use one that I took off of a dab pen battery

    • @Modern-Crafts
      @Modern-Crafts 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      These are 510 connectors with a hole in the middle to attach a liquid bottle from underneath. The dab pen does not have this hole. Also I don't think you will be able to remove and properly attach the 510 connector. You can get a "squonk 510 connector" from aliexpress for just 2$. While I personally use higher quality ones, the cheap ones should work just fine.

      If you follow the instructions on github, it will automatically create a web-interface. So by typing in the IP-Address of the ESP8266, you have an interface to control all the colors, effects, brightness etc. But you can also add it to Node Red to create your own interface. Also you can control it via Alexa. So there are many ways to control them.
