I spent an amazing day out of Whitter, Alaska. The water was calm, the sun was shining and I caught almost every non pelagic rockfish on the chart along with some cod. Even though 90% of the fish had to go back it was still an amazing day out on the ocean!

This past April my achilles completely ruptured and I thought that my summer was shot. That was NOT the case and because of THIS boat, my opportunity to fish has drastically increased. Alaska has a crazy variety of fish and I've always wanted to fish there! I believe that's a rockfish right? Nice yellow eye!
You are 100% correct. Those fish can live up to be 150 years old. That one was probably pushing 80. You need to get up here and make it happen man. Charters are getting outrageous for pricing though unfortunately.

I haven't been having great luck with spinners right now. It seems that the spoons and hoochie aka wicked lures, are getting more strikes. Also, the trout are down deep as of late. The surface temps have been in the high 60s. Come cooler temps, I bet those would be great. I was out yesterday and was catching nothing but dinks, and they were all at least five feet in depth if not lower.
Yeah … the lake I was on was spotting fish on the fishfinder at 20+ feet. Without a downrigger it’s almost impossible to get your lure at a consistent depth. These things are definitely cool. Just need more time with them on the water.
@@907shots9 there's plenty of videos on how to mount a downrigger on a kayak 😉. I have a cannon downrigger on my pontoon that has been great.
Trust me it’s coming… I have a mount in the garage.. just need to heal up a bit more for this Achilles and I’ll be slapping it on… then one more “how to” video hitting TH-cam 😂
Bummer about not catching anything man. Just how it goes some days. Glad you like them anyway and that was a pretty sweet mod with the hook. About the propeller... The main benefit is that it helps throw flash in more directions. Most spinners with a single blade or tandem blades oriented the same way only throw flash to the sides which may not be in a fish's line of sight. The flash from the top of the propeller is visible in more directions and especially so if you are reeling them downstream through feeding lanes where trout etc. are looking upstream.
Hell of an answer and it makes complete sense. As stated in the video, I know those things will catch Pike all day long. Something was pulling me towards the lake that I fished at and it just didn’t pan out. I didn’t want to test this lure out on stocked fish. A piece of bubble gum on a hook will catch a stocked trout. If you can trick wild trout into biting your lure then you’re really onto something and that’s what happened with yours. I just unfortunately couldn’t get the thing to the boat. One of the negatives of having a single hook. Truly appreciate the opportunity man. You are definitely onto something with that thing. Keep cranking out quality products.
@topstrikefishing great answer, was going to say it's like using one of those four blade trolling setups compared to a simple dodger will typically catch more fish.
that hook is a 5/0 not a 5. there is no size 5 hook.

What trail do you recommend hiking where there’s a lake I can fish from shore? And where did you buy those lures
@moanrgk you can pick these lures up at sportsman’s warehouse in the valley or bass pro / cabelas in anchorage. I even saw them at Walmart in Eagle River. Now for the lake situation.. that kinda depends on where you’re located and how far you are willing to drive. I don’t know the anchorage lakes that well but I believe Little Campbell Lake has a decent trail around it and for the valley, Bradley Lake has some decent access points. I don’t know if you saw my Budget Boat video I just put out but I HIGHLY Recommend that kayak if you have a few hundred dollars. I bought this kayak a month ago and take it out on huge reservoirs catfishing. So far the biggest ive caught on it was a 23lb blue cat, i will get on a 30lb+ fish before the end of this year.
It’s shockingly an amazing boat for the price.. you absolutely will get that 30lb fish! Tight lines.

My excuse is that I don't have a garage to store a kayak and neighbors with sticky fingers..
That’s more in reference to don’t let life slow down a.k.a. a blown out of Achilles can’t ruin the summer. You could always bring the boat in the house. I’ve seen ppl do that. I’ve also seen people lock it to something outside and rig a 12 V battery to it so that it would remind those sticky fingers to stay to themselves.
Maybe look into getting an inflatable kayak and then you can store it inside, plus they’re much easier to transport. I have an inflatable and I love it.
@@907shots9 Yeah I get you! Man, I wish I could rig any form of "deterrent" to it but knowing my country I would probably end up in jail if anything happened to the poor thief... I just have to accept that I will be forced to use inflatable alternatives as long as I am an apartment dweller. Thanks for the video man, keep up the good work and I wish you a speedy recovery!
@@rachaelstohr7658 Yep I have been using float rings, inflatable boats and kayaks. At the moment I'm alternating between a cheap intex excursion k2 and a savage gear e-rider 330 with a minn kota trolling motor. Not perfect solutions but they do get the job done.. What inflatable do you have?
@@koltrasten I’ve got the NRS Kuda 106, because it can also be used as a stand up paddle board. I fly fish as well and it’s such a nice feature to be able to stand in the middle of a lake and fly cast.

That's awesome, glad you are still out doing what you love. Just so you know, if you still want to get rid of those unneeded foot rests that are riveted on, grab a drill bit that is 1-2 sizes smaller than the head of the rivet and drill slowly in the center until the head pops off. Just go slow and straight.
That’s good advice. Didn’t even think about that. I believe I’m gonna give this to my kiddo when I’m all back and healed up so at this point I will probably just keep them in but that’s a genius thought thank you.

Thank you for the kind words. I am a week out of surgery and going stir crazy 😵💫. At least the weather is nice and the lakes are still frozen. Cannot wait to get out of this splint and start rehab.
I’m actually pretty impressed but the size of allot of those fish you got coming from anchorage in all I figured the lakes out there would be super overly fished

@@907shots9 they didn’t do the bone spur surgery correct. So I went in and they had to fix and finish the 1st surgery. Then I fell before they took the stitches out. That tore off my Achilles off the bone.so they had to put a donor tendon in.
Man! What a mess. I hope that is all behind you. That sounds like a rough go.
@@907shots9 thank God so far it is behind me. It’s is funny how the different surgery centers use more nerve block meds. The first one was in a hospital that was in a “rough area” OMG the amount of meds to do the block was crazy. I think I was completely waster for about 5 days. The surgery center I had my 2&3 the block was gone in 24 hours.but I didn’t have a lot of pain. It was crazy.
Yeah .. when that block was done .. my goodness the pain… but that’s in the past now 🤞🏻. I’m glad you’re fix. Hopefully you have a wonderful summer!
