In the Star Wars saga Attack of the Clones (2002), Padme (Natalie Portman) and Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christiansen) had a couple of scenes on the planet Naboo, which indeed is Plaza de España.

St Johns Eve

St John's Eve (or Oiche Fheile Eoin) is celebrated in many parts of Ireland with the lighting of bonfires. Tyres & pallets were normally burned but now timber & turf is easier come by and contained in a washing machine drum(safer),can also double as a home-made b-b -q.

Why are there more American flags than Irish flags?
Flags of the United States and of the Vatican !
Hilarious, been a fan since 1993 and I’ve never seen this before 💚
Amazing 58 years ago and it still looks the same!
More padres then and certainly more fit looking Gardai. Time to stop eating the muffins
Wonderful lovely place for a chocolate factory.
what in the flying fuck is going on with this music? sounds like i’m playing 3 youtube clips on top of each other. don’t quit your day job
Amazing how in 50 years a place is so different and still as if nothing changed
I love my Country,I’ve actually been to this part of town and it’s fascinating how diferent it looks now,the Places are now modernised and it looks so much new then to what it is now, thank you for uploading this,I wish you all the best who see this.❤️
Nice video, but the backing music is absolutely atrocious
It sounds like something's gone wrong... Reminds me of listening to MW radio late at night back in 'the old days' when you'd have Saarlouis fighting with Stuttgart!
Can't find anything wrong with music. Cheerful, but then I absolutely hate fogging tinwhistle tootling in so many Irish videos. Its kind of expected alongside " Tap A Da Maurnin to Ya" Interesting to see so many men in suits, not necessarily new clothes and wearing ties.
The Roman Catholic Church is of the devil come away from it and trust on the LORD JESUS HALLELUYAH MARANATHA AMEN
nice video ,
Blessing of the bay, what a beautiful thing which has, like may other of or rituals been sadly lost.
nice video , galway is great city , it has its problems now and the lockdown as well but hopefully things will improve .
Nice, I love that place. I also found the old Cottage from the film flight of the doves.
Christ what a dump...was i transported back to the 1950's?
Hi Paschal - just wondering I could make contact wit you regarding this footage. Im looking to track the n of the footage down looking forward to hearing from you - many thanks Denise Email: denise.lavelle@rte.ie
The good old days. No foreigners
Inevitably... Twat. I mean, you can have a debate about "Is there too much immigration?", No problem, but it's comments like this that mean when people say "Paddy's? Mucksavages!!" you kind of can't blame them.
Aye. Maybe a few Yanks, but they came, spent money AND went home again. Mohammed was the most popular boys name in Galway in 2022. Could that be true?
Gowls
Looks like it was recorded from back of the waterworks?
Fabulous
Thanks for sharing this lovely footage. Would it be OK to use some of it in a music video for a song written about Galway? We are from Galway and would love to mix in a few short clips from this to go along with our Galway song
The cathedral was ok but I preferred the jail. Walking past those dark high walls at dawn used to terrify me. I loved that !
Third world shit hole today in 2018.
Who hurt you
What song is that?
Diddle idal dumm

Richard Cardinal Cushing, the Archbishop of Boston, visited Ireland and Galway in 1965, hence the US and Vatican flags. zenit.org/articles/galway-cathedral-celebrates-50th-anniversary/

Thanks a lot for the post. I was in the third row. It was magic, mighty craic.
Looks like Cardinal Richard James Cushing ( 1895-1970 ) from Boston. He was the Kennedy's Cardinal.and officiated at JFK Funeral in Wash. DC in Nov. 1963.
Again, What's the story on all the American Flags ??? 4th of July ???
The time galway cathedral was opened Americian Cardinal visit, see part 2
I haven't seen this in over 20 years. I never realised it was Tommy Keane that crossed to Johnny Glynn. Great memory.
Lansdowne in the sun! Rovers nil, United one!;))
I got there 5 years later. I loved Old Galway. M

Driving up shop street? Jesus the worlds gone mad
i was swalleyin porter in the roarin twenties that day!
Thank You Hope you enjoyed our wonderful city!
Great video. Really enjoyed it.
deadly wicked al'together...
@imshaneh The Cathedral was opened by Cardinal Cashing of Boston, so it was probably in his honour.
Why are there American flags when a cathedral was opening? Weere they left over from when JFK was here? The car seems to be moving slow by modern standards. Maybe there was a speed limit of 10mph.
@TheRatBoy93 No film just caricaturing the short acoustic set U2 played atop the Savoy Cinema on O'Connell Street when Rattle and Hum premiered there on 27 October 1988. Footage from the tongue-in-cheek stunt ,
