    For those who care.... The crash occurred on 3 May and the plane was repaired and flying again on 7 May. www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?3473121-3D-Lab-Print-B25/page9 Watching the end of the flight in slow motion it's clear that I got too slow on final approach. At 6:15 you see the plane roll out of the turn onto runway heading, but in a slightly nose high attitude. At 6:18 the stall occurs and the nose starts to drop. At 6:19 I pulled full up elevator and added power, but it was too late. The plane impacts in a nearly level attitude but with a high rate of descent. After that all I could do was watch the inevitable.

    Sorry for your crash. Trying to be constructive so as to learn, in the video i heard you say you " i stalled it in". Just to be clear after watching and playing back crash a couple of times in slow motion would it be correct to say , you actually missed judged decent rate and never flared, it looked like plane was flying, you just flew it into ground thats why it bounced. Then after bounced plane ended up in extreme angle of attack and then quit flying and tumbled. Only save at bounce would be to full power and go around and hopefully regain flight control ?

    • @Jimbo-in-Thailand
      @Jimbo-in-Thailand ปีที่แล้ว

      @keepyourspeedup - Yep, he never flared and pancaked it. And that resulting bounce was so nose high I doubt he good have saved it by firewalling it and trying to do a go around. Anyway, it should be repairable since he can just 3D print whatever new parts he needs. :)

    • @adamtrzaskowski3901
      @adamtrzaskowski3901 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep, totally agree with this assesment. The pilot misjudged the rate of decent and distance to the ground.

    • @adamtrzaskowski3901
      @adamtrzaskowski3901 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Jimbo-in-Thailand Actually, repairing 3d printed planes is a pain. After a crash like this most likely 80% needs to be re-printed. Almost a complete do over. Foam planes are much nicer in this regard.

    • @Jimbo-in-Thailand
      @Jimbo-in-Thailand ปีที่แล้ว

      @@adamtrzaskowski3901 It depends on the damage. His fuselage clearly broke in half and another piece flew off, maybe a wing tip. Since 3D printers (at least mine is) are so freakin' slow I would definitely try to salvage this model. Of course, that's assuming there's not a lot of other damage, cracks, etc., we can't see.

    • @3057luis
      @3057luis ปีที่แล้ว

      Flaring a model plane is an exeptional event, and doesn´t occur with all types of airplane. The trick of a good landing is actually easy to explain (probably not easy to achieve): come down in a quick descent, and keep it parallel to the ground, the closest possible; let the speed drop, until it touches the ground.

    Excellent Charles, those twin batteries are definitely the way to go. Mines on the bench waiting for the same. I know you mentioned it before, but did you go with tailerons? I know you're using full span flaps, but do you also have flaperons, which is all I've been using. With the extra channel now available from removing the speed brake, thinking about tailerons, but would it make any sense to have both, with flaperons?

    • @charlesradford3811
      @charlesradford3811 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hugh, this plane does not have flaperons. The surfaces on the wing are used as flaps only. As I recall, I had to change the rotation of one of the wing servos so that both servos could be connected to one channel and move the flaps correctly. The tail surfaces are used as tailerons and provide more than enough control. I used a Hobby Eagle A3-L gyro to handle the tail surface mixing. When I first flew the jet I had the wings surfaces as ailerons and the tail surfaces as tailerons....the roll rate was way too fast. I converted the ailerons to flaps and that gives me better takeoffs and landings.

      @@charlesradford3811 thanks for the info Charles. I may just follow your lead. I'm using the 8 channel Spektrum AS3X and may be able to program it through its wing/tail type options without changing the wing servo and at least I now know to un y the elevators and put each of them on their own channel as long as I'm taking it apart. Hope to start surgery soon and may need to PM you for more of my stupid questions. Thanks so much.

    Nice flight Charles. It's too bad HH sold these with such an underpowered setup, it is nice looking and a great airframe if set up correctly. Your mods with 2 batteries and ESC's was a great idea. I'm actually OK now with just the new FMS fans and a lighter 5300 SMC, at 700gr, it gives me about 3:20 in flight time and flies so much better with a CG of 150 or more. You hit a bump and the plane when airborne, you did have two choices,one relax the elevator and let the airplane keep in stray line, the other option was to keep the full power and put the nose down, you decision of cut power, was the worse, but we all make mistakes, sorry for you lost.

    • @Toth_Marton
      @Toth_Marton 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      There was simply no other choice, but to crash. With high AOA, you cannot push the nose down if you add throttle, it pushes the plane up. And the ttw ratio is less than 1, so the outcome must be a crash.

  • @txkflier
    @txkflier 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Did you only have two positions for flaps? I heard “Flaps down” and then “Flaps up”. I use a 3 position switch that gives me about 15 degrees for takeoff and 30 to 40 degrees for full flaps. I also use a stick position switch that raises the flaps from full to takeoff when my throttle is above 60%..
