Thank you for posting this video. My husband and I (newly retired) received our Tesla in December 2022. We look forward to using it to travel to see our kids in Utah and Alabama. I already made a trip with my son from SoCalifornia to Alabama for his Tesla delivery but he did the driving and navigating. We made it in 4 days. We have a lot to learn for our road trips. Your video was helpful and gave us hope that us old folks can do it too!
You guys rock!
Please teach the woman to reverse… here’s a clue, you’re supposed to be between the lines!
Hi I’m Dan, 34 years old from the UK 🇬🇧 I am very impressed with your video and love the content about your Tesla. I’m hoping to get a Model Y LR in the UK at some point 🤞 Keep up the good work. Liked and subscribed 🎉
I’m curious why your display shows a blue color when your car is white. NBD just wondering.🤷🏻
using the 'colouriser' built in, you can have any colour you like, but only on the inside ;-)
I have done this trip in a Model 3 SR + from Naples Fl to Warren MI. I however took I75 the whole way. I found out that Florida had a large number of super chargers but a lot of them had wait times. Most of the chargers outside of Florida did not have a wait. My charge time was closer to 30-45 minutes each stop due to the shorter range.
You need to teach her how to park how ppl can’t park straight is beyond me
OMG, her parking is terrible! SC tip, if it’s a v2 station it’s a good idea to pick a spot where some one else coming in can park with a space in between so your not sharing voltage. Not a big deal when spots are empty but good to do when there are others there. Plus you don’t have to put the charger plug right next to the charging port then press the button to open it. Press the button as you grab the charger from the dock and it’ll open as your moving it towards the car then plug right in.👍🏽
@7:54 hey the car’s straight! 👍🏽
I love watching the older generation with their Teslas. I’m 52 and feel like I’m an old fart watching all these millennials with their Teslas. 😂. I’m hoping for my M3 RWD delivery between Nov-Dec. 👍🏻
I don't know what that surfer was planning to do, but it was definitely something.
Hi Paul, there are many hotels that have tesla level 2 destination chargers that allows you to charge your car while you are a guest there. You plug/charge when you check in and leave a full charge when you check out. I found this very helpful when road tripping with our model 3.
Thank you for your video … it goes to show that people who are willing can embrace and enjoy new technologies at any age. I was so excited to get my Tesla Y at 63 in 2020. I feel we are so fortunate to witness the advancement of technology and lifestyle at our age. Enjoy your new car 🚗
Great video. One tip no relating to the trip - don't show your address. Who knows, your channel may go big (I'm not from US and Youtuve recommended me your video) or you may have some bad encounter and now people can find where you live.
Great video for us old folk! I am 79, and should receive my Model Y in June. Thanks for sharing, move video's would be welcome.
Enjoyed the video! I'm a few years younger than you, but like to stop for a bio-break at least every two hours. 90-120 miles per leg is ideal to avoid fatigue. On long trips I tend not to follow the Tesla suggested stops. Instead I'll also look at A Better Route Planner to find better routes and charging stops, then usually add an additional stop to keep my battery SOC levels between 70-30% SOC if Tesla is suggesting 90-10 SOC legs. 70-30 is pretty optimal for battery health and also provides the same 20 minute sessions. The stops are almost too quick once you hit the restroom, stretch and have a snack. Staying at hotels or B&Bs with charging also eliminates the first SuC stop of the day, plus they are "free." Safe travels!
good video
Paul, thank you for this video but you did not talk about the ride itself. Was the car comfortable for that long drive ? Does it have a smooth ride or it is too rigid ? Please let me know you experience. Thank you
Both my wife and I found the ride smooth and comfortable. The seats felt good… lots of legroom. I felt the car exceeded my expectations on those concerns.
Enjoyed your video ! Do you think it was faster to charge up ever 150 or so miller or could you have gone close to 300 miles and charged the same ? Model Y LR Texas build owner soon or 6 months (whenever its built )
If we were staying somewhere for the night that had charging we might have gone closer to the 300 mile range... but charging every 200 miles or so for 20 minutes and then being back on the road worked well for us. It also was reassuring to see we could have driven another 60-70 miles when we stopped at the recommended Supercharger.
Y’all looking real Young with the Apple Watches and a Tesla. Congratulations.
yall should enable autopilot in the car
maybe you want to buy a yoke ? or anyone?? for only $545 THIS IS NOT A SPAM . I just want to promote our Yoke steering wheel . Please consider it. . Just let me know :)
Nice video
Hi, Just wondering if you guys travelling in 2 separate car.? Thanks
Yes… we had driven our 2014 Diesel VW Sportwagen down in December and don’t have a garage in Florida so we both had to drive separately back to Detroit.
Thanks to you both for sharing your road trip experience. My wife Wendy and I, both in our 60s and retired, have a white Model Y LR on order since Nov. 2, 2021, expect delivery in the next few months, and we eagerly await a repeat trip to her home town of Southfield, Michigan. Last time we were there we ventured on to see the lilac festival in Mackinac Island. We live in Hallandale Beach, FL, full time.
Hopefully you won't have to wait much longer to receive your Tesla! One accessory we purchased was a tire sealant kit. Oddly Tesla does not include a spare tire or a jack. We also purchased a set of "pucks" that insert under the car in the event the car needs to be jacked up. I can't even remember the last time we had a flat tire but something you might want to consider...
@@pmcdia thanks for the suggestions. I was also looking at a compact spare tire from Modern Spare. The thought of not having a spare tire would stress me out. Hopefully I will never need it, but it would give me some peace of mind.
Very cool Paul!
Thanks for the video. My wife and I are 76 and 77 yo respectively, and we have a 2020 Model 3 Long Range that we bought in March 2020. We love the car! I think you are going to enjoy learning all the interesting features about the car. My only thought is that you might find it more useful to keep the battery display on % battery rather than miles remaining. I've found that gives me more useful information about how far I can potentially go. I also find the energy graph very, very useful and accurate on long trips. It graphs out your expected battery use till the next stop and then draws a graph that shows what your battery usage actually is. I enjoy trying to do better than the car says I'll do! In the summer, I can usually "beat the car", and in single digit weather this winter, I did exactly what the car projected I'd do. Enjoy your new, fantastic car.
definitely recommend % if you can try it for a while. Goes with the satnav estimated, and you’ll quickly get a feel for how many miles per % (eg 25 miles for 10% or whatever) - the actual miles displayed in the car will be fixed EPA which won’t always be accurate
I've been in and out of Jupiter Inlet more than 500 times since 1972
The less testosterone, the more HP.
When there are breaking waves at the entrance, it’s called total stupidity th try going out, been through Jupiter several times and treat any entrance w/respect!
good captain. dropped anchor like a boss.
Lost power and no mechanical knowledge, perfect scenario for disaster...
GEE MAYBE I SHOULD USE SEAFOME. AND ALLWAYS KEEP MY TANKS FULL.
Now, that is what you call a "life line". Thank God they were all saved by that brave Samaritan boater.
MODESTO Thank TowBoat.
Jupiter inlet, adrift on a Jupiter boat....locally built boat. Bad luck for sure but obviously some kind of failure in the electrical or fuel. Usually when two outboards die at the same time it's due to bad fuel. I have been there myself and it really sucks and very frustrating.
I am Floridas thoughtiest swimmer. I could swim threw that easily
Im glad that all but one had a life jacket.
This shows that even with twin engines, you can lose power--for several different reasons. Bottom line, you need to be ready if/when you lose power. They had anchor lines out--that's good, that is your first stop--even if it does not totally stop you, it can slow you way down while you work on other things--calling for help, waiting for help--and/or trying to get the engines started. I had this happen when my engine sucked up a plastic bag--the auto system sounded an alarm and shut the engine down--to save it from super heating. Glad the anchor was handy--and so were we at getting it out--NOW. Forget the size of the boat, small, medium or large, you damn well better be ready--the sea, she doesn't care at all if you are not ready. Another thing to have is a few "repelling poles" to keep you off the rocks if you are drifting even with anchor drag. I like to keep a small outboard, as a back-up to the main. But if you go that way, remember to check it each time you go out--is it running? Do you know how to lower it into the water? Silly question? Not, it's not, practice everything, IF you need things, you may not have time to sort it out, or to go looking to find it. I actually watched a guy--expensive boat--and he did not know where his anchor was, in complete hysteria as he "looked for the damn thing". Boating is serious stuff, bet recognize it, and don't forget it, run down your check-list every single time you go. "Relax and have a good time"? NO WAY, always be prepared, always be ready.
That many on a boat an in those conditions... What a fucken clown risking other peoples life's for the sake of getting out on the water... WANKER.
Absolute amazing job that captain did. Lucky boater.
Waoo los felicito. Muy buena acción rápida de los guarda costa.
To me, this rescue could be simplified - merely grapple the line to the anchor, which was working, then pull that anchor and line to the rescue boat, then pull the boat to safety. Simple, simple, simple.
I used to a man from Jupiter, the biggest bastard that ever lived.
Meu Deus cadê o espírito natalino as pessoas só pensão em filma a desgraça não pensão em ajudar tem misericórdia SENHOR destas alma sem espírito humanos muito triste ver isso
Well done Skipper!
Least there is a safety crew there to help in Destin florida. The coast guard nor FWC will assist in boat issues unless they are in the water they won’t off any assistance. And I’ve witnessed it first hand so of course Good Samaritans step in and do the job
Hhmm 2 engines that stalled out ? Or ran out of gas ?
Crossbows are great to shoot a light line over the bow of the boat you want to rescue, They then use the light line to pull over a stronger cable with which to tow their boat.
Is it normal to cross this bar on a heavy ebb? Seams like no one care what the tide is doing. Here in Oregon the Barr crossings are done at slack or on the flood with some exceptions for smaller exchanges or small swell.
and the surfer guy
operator of distressed vessel should have had(a lifejacket, pfd) every one sitting down and away from the bow of the boat. Great job by the tow boat operator , it's shameful law enforcement is only staffing one person to their vessels. You also gotta love surfer dude heading over just in case.
Grew up there . That inlet eats boats , used to anyway. Usually fishing boats overloaded when I was a kid . Glad this worked out .
