    Nice aluminum work, the only thing that I would do different is I will try to follow the contour (curve) of the camper remember it is a reason of that curve even know it is very high that way you won’t change the departure angle, and if you follow that curve it will look nicer from the sides

    • @OverlandTrailsAdventures
      @OverlandTrailsAdventures 6 วันที่ผ่านมา

      hey, good insight. I was trying to get as many rack extensions as I could. The departure angle should never touch this high as it would mean the truck is about to tip over backward or I'm dropping off a high shelf which would break the suspension. lol Hopefully I'll never be crazy enough to do either..lol

    Helpful to see some numbers, thank you. But for the record you have a mistake in using units correctly. Watts is a measure of power at a moment in time. It is already a rate (joules/sec) and watts/hour does not make any sense. I see this in a lot of reviews which is not ideal when it is trying to be presented as scientific testing. Watt-hours is quanity of energy consumption over a period of time. It used a total of 341 watt-hours during the 12 hour test. So it used 28.41 watt-hours/hour not 28.41 watts/hour. You could state that energy consumption during your test was equivalent to a 28.41 watt constant load for 12 hours. Because of course 28.41 watts for 1 hour is 28.41 watt-hours and 28.41 watts for 12 hours is the 341 watt-hours consumed. Still got some good info from you here and that thing does seem to sip power under not easy conditions.

    Great looking rig. Yeah, engine power and weight carrying capacity are a big negative with the Tundra. I wish Toyota would make HD trucks. Did you upgrade the brakes? I built something similar on a 2022 Ford F250 Tremor 7.3 Liter gas truck with a Mits Alloy Evo 2 flatbed and a Supertramp camper. I looked at the FWC Hawk as well, but at that time I was not ready to go flatbed. That came a little later down the line. Lead times on a Bowen Customs bed were so ridiculous so that I went with the Mits as well. Overall, the Mits is a good flatbed, but I hated how unnecessarily tall the Mits made the camper sit. I had my local shop lower the bed to reduce the overall height. I am so glad I did. Yes, I lost the drawer, but the truck handled so much better when driving. If I would have kept the drawer there were still about 2 inches that the height would have come down. Mits was not very helpful when my shop reached out. Fortunately, my shop was able to make their own mounting brackets. I used the Torklift steps as well. Great choice. I put marine-grade "carpeting" onto the steps and also added the Pet Safe option. Made it easier and more comfortable to walk up and down. My new rig is going to be a bit different (Rossmonster Baja), but I want to travel and work full-time from the road and neither my Supertramp or the FWC were sufficient enough. Would love to hear how you work from the road and all that good stuff. See you down the road ...

    Thank you for your honest maybe blunt assessment of the new Tundra. We chose a Ford F-250 which has a generous payload capacity and has been a reliable workhorse that needed minimal modifications. Ford does not yet have the proven or perceived quality that Toyota has earned. We have a 2019 Hawk and it's pleasing to see that FWC is continuing to improve its product. I especially like the upgraded heater/water heater, stove, sink, electrical upgrades / options and my favorite under bed storage! I also have a Jackery 500, and after watching the performance, I'm thinking I should have bought a larger unit. That being said, when you have your Jackery plugged in to your vehicle, and your fridge plugged in to your Jackery, are you able to keep it at 100% state of charge, or will it draw more wattage than can be charged by your truck's alternator. Just got mine and hooked it up to my EcoFlow Delta 2. So far, so good. Question about the fridge itself. What the difference with Eco/MAX? The different battery protection and what settings I should set it to?
