In this video, I discuss a non-acting book that will evolve how you approach scenes, character development, and exploring relationships. The goal of any scene is to break past the "homework" of what an actor does and to understand it at a core level, where you are no longer working but, rather, playing and responding. Great review video! David Mamet's 'True & False' is my favorite book on acting. I have read it once every year for the past 15 years of my acting career. Mamet's book has helped me have the confidence that I am competitively competent as a 4th wall performer. I am a poor, working class, blue collar, kind of guy - so I really connect with Mamet's work. I could barely afford my dumb college degree, and I hated the mostly impractical, cult-like, pretentious, philosophizing of my academia experience. Mamet's 'True & False' book was practical and it really helped me. And yes, whenever it did piss me off, it really did remind me that in real life, you always gotta be your own motivation for success. You cannot expect other people to motivate you...which is funny because in a scene - it's the opposite. But yes - I love the book. 🎭

    Just saw. How did you get rid of the ring in your eyes while using a ring light?

    • @bookfromtape3072
      @bookfromtape3072 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Michael! Sorry, just saw this. The ring is there BUT it's less noticeable when used in combination with soft boxes. The main complaint is when people use the ring light by itself. That's when it gets super stylizes and distracting. Hope this helps!

    Honestly after reading just the first chapter of the book it really left a bad taste in my mouth with David Mamet in general. He just wants actors to read the words on the page. He thinks building characters is useless and stupid. Well I’m sorry but if that’s what you think, then ANY person can be an actor. I’d love to see him say that to the faces of Heath Ledger, Daniel Day-Lewis, and Joaquin Phoenix. He’s a piece of shit asshole, and I will never watch anything with his name attached to it. He’s not as high and mighty as he thinks he is.
