Quick update on the 1988 Harley-Davidson FXRS
มุมมอง 5K11 หลายเดือนก่อน
It has been a while since I have uploaded a video on the FXR. Thankfully I have not been having any issues or repairs to make. This is just a brief update on what I have been doing with the bike. Thanks again to @theridefactoryyborcity6647 for all of Joes knowledge. Thanks also to @UncleBogator and @BertsBarracuda for the ride and entertainment last Thursday. I hope I can make it to the next on...
1988 FXRS front isolator replacement and rocker cover bolt gaskets [2023 build series]

In this episode I take you along as I replace my rocker cover bolt gaskets as well as the front motor isolator. Along the way I install some cruddy rocker pin lockers that almost don't work. I show off my new intellitronix fuel gauge and FXR convertible windshield. I also made it over to the Forgotten angels campout. It was really nice to meet @Cheyleesi for the first time. 1988 FXRS engine torn down ... lots of issues [2023 build series]
มุมมอง 444ปีที่แล้ว
In this episode, I talk about where I am with the top end rebuild on the 88 FXRS. I run into a bunch of issues that make the work a little stressful. I also give myself a boo boo trying to explain the issues I had with the cam bushing.
Completing the LED tail light conversion on the 1988 Harley FXR [2023 Build series]
มุมมอง 1.3Kปีที่แล้ว
In episode 3 of the build, I finally complete all of the LED lights after a small emotional breakdown. I explain the HUGE amount of work I have directly ahead of me. I also survive an encounter with an alligator. This video has some really good information if you plan to complete an LED conversion. Lean from my mistakes. sorry i missed a week or two of videos...Busy life got in the way
Wrapping up the wiring on the 1988 Harley Davidson FXR [2023 build series]
มุมมอง 2.1Kปีที่แล้ว
In this episode I complete nearly all the head light bucket wiring on the FXR. I also make some decisions on what I want to do with the front turn signals and the tail light. Thanks to @shadetreesurgeon for motivating me to buy an FXR. The work is all worth it.
Beginning work on my 1988 Harley FXR [2023 build series]
มุมมอง 839ปีที่แล้ว
In this video I begin de-jankifying my 1988 FXRS. This is the first video in a new build series aimed at the average guy (or gal) who doesn't have infinite amounts of money to throw at a 30 year old bike. This build is based out of Tampa Florida. I hope you enjoy the content.
What brand the front turn signals? I can’t find any that fit a 1990 FXR. Very nice ride.
They are not specific for an FXR, they are just generic Amazon turn signals advertised as fitting Harley.
Hey you’re in my neck of the woods! I’m here in Chattanooga TN ! Love to hear from ya I got a bike too !😊
I just saw this message. Yeah Chattanooga is pretty close.
Hey men I’ve been watching you videos and I need help I’m doing the same thing you did your bike I’m also doing to my 87 fxrs did you run an led turn module for you led lights to work I really need help
I got an led turn signal relay from Amazon. The one I got has a little knob where you can adjust the speed of the flasher. But yes, the turn signal flasher relay will have to be changed as the stock flasher won't actually flash as the LEDs do not draw enough current to activate the flasher.
So that’s all you did and turn signals work? You not running a Badlands turn signal module! Cause I did buy that flasher on Amazon should be here soon
@@luisabreu2457 yeah that's it's. I removed that flasher module all together.
Hey men is me again I’m reaching out to you again cause I need to know exactly what you did to you bike to get the front turn signals to work ? I did buy that led flasher and turn signals still don’t work what’s happening to my front turn signals is they both are flashing at the same time when either switch is press my rear turns are working fine need all the information I can get please
@@luisabreu2457 at 7:15 he explains it pretty well. you either have the wrong part or wired it incorrectly.
Hit up screaming pistons for that nine spoke wheel. He’s out in Florida
That was fun to watch. sounds good.
Thanks man! I intend to post more but I just moved to Tennessee so I'm still getting settled.
Great looking bike! Idk if you found rear shocks yet but I got Race Tech GS3 14” for my 83 FXR and they’re amazing I paid $900 about.3 years ago. I often hear of people using Race Tech up front but not the rear but I couldn’t be happier with them
I ended up finding a set of fox piggyback shocks for like $500. They are great
👍🏻
Progressive makes a 14.5 and I saw them at Low Brow custom for a good price. I went 2 over in the front and 4 over in the rear cause I'm big and didn't have the clearence. I hate leaning back in the seat.
Howd you get 4 over in the rear?
Great job but we didn't get to hear it
You're right. But...if you go back and watch some of the previous videos, I have a clip of it running.
Nice bike howctall are those risers
9 inch
Woooooo
I ran into the same problem with my 93 sportster. I used the moons mc fly eye for the headlight and moons mc makes and led tail light with integrated turn signals for the fxr. Also used a custom dynamics load equalizer to make the led turn signals work
Looks like a solid fun bike !!
Yeah man. It's been a blast
Rite on man! I work at Fox factory in SoCal. Enjoy the ride
That's awesome dude. These fox shocks are not made to fit on an Fxr....but I made them work. I hope you all release an fxr piggy back some day.
New to your channel, glad you were able to extract that small piece of Is metal. Cheers from Austin,Texas.
Thanks dude! Yeah that was a stressful week.
The mikuni clone eh. Always heard bad things about them. Have you compared it to a real one?
I have not. But I have had the clone on for a couple months now and it has been perfect. It runs a little rough when it's cold...but even the real mikunis do. After 4 minutes it's ripping.
@@eff_ex_arggnice! Which clone did you buy?

Nice! Just found your channel. Gonna go back and watch this series from the beginning
Thanks so much! I have been struggling to make videos lately...but I'll be moving to Tennessee in about a month and the content should speed up.
I like to say if the motor is fresh let her run but don’t ask her to sprint until you have about 500 on it. Then. Check and change oil. Address any other concerns and check everything. If all is good. Let her eat.
New to this channel but question? Are you putting an led head light as well?
Yes I installed an LED headlight. You don't need to modify anything for an led headlight to work. It's the turn signals that cause goofy hyperflash issues.
Great job on the install. Would you happen to have the link for that headlight?@@eff_ex_argg

@@eff_ex_argg Thank you! Did you need to do any type of re-wiring for this light?
@@TheTwitch03 no it's plug and play for the most part. If I remember there is another wire for some little running lights, but you can leave it off or solder it to the positive wire and it will be on all the time. (That's what I did)
Just found your videos, fun to learn along with you. Shadetree army unite!
Haha. Yeah shadetree is the dude. A real swamp wizard. You coming down for the campout?
Where did you buy the bags
I got them directly from viking bags.
Hey men I watch your video on the led installed on the fxr I’m actually doing my 87 fxrs now do your signals staying flashing when you push the bottom and what relay did you used cause I’m thinking about buying the badlands equalizer
My FXR also has a mikuni and I finished a full restoration a couple of months ago. Unfortunately, I've already burned out two starters after some startup time, Always working on the number. It's just very difficult for him to crank the engine, although the clutch crown is not the standard 66 teeth for easy starting ... I'm trying to figure this out now. And by the way, I also put new 14-inch bitubo on it and noticed that over time their adjusting ring unwinds when shaking at idle, changing the length of one or the other. I also don't know what to do with it
If you know your perfect adjustment, use loctite
Do you have the Amazon link for the carb?

Looking good man! I've been off the video train for a while too lol
Yeah dude, it's so much work. Plus now that the bike has been up and running...I don't have much to talk about. Just been riding a lot.
Do u have the Amazon link for the carb?
Hey man just a heads up. When you ream the bushings in the cam cover youre supposed to have the cases split and the cam cover bolted up to the right side case and from the crank side of the case the reamer is supposed to have a pilot that goes in the cam bearing hole to guide the reamer and makes sure its straight. That bushing is supposed to be dead straight. Max tolerance of the centerline of the cam bearing to the cam bushing is .0003. Your best bet is to go to a shop to get it done. They should have a right side case half and the proper reamer setup to do it. A shop by me did it for around $30.
Yeah, if you keep watching I end up having that done by a machinist in a future episode. Unfortunately none of the Harley shops in Tampa do it. In fact they told me that the bushings come pre sized...which is not true. I guess Tampa has no good Harley techs.
Hey man. Good job on doing the work yourself. Really diggin your videos. I just started my channel last week-The Choppermex. Like & subscribe. And since no one has bothered to mention it, if you get the 1996 & later switches & housings, the wiring is a bit thinner and longer so you don't have to worry about trying to squeeze the solder joints through the bars & risers. Also you can upgrade to the Deutsch connectors. A bit smaller so you might be able to get them in that headlight bucket. Also, loosen your riser bolts, remove the top riser clamps & spin the risers 180° each. The internal wiring holes will be on the inside. 🤘
Congrats on the channel. I have unfortunately been too busy to add any videos lately, but Im hoping to get back into it soon.
Is that evo 1340
Yes
How about taping out holes mess up with mm size biger
Love what you do . I have my 88 fxrs ( same color) already for 32 years now ;)
nice video bud. did you have a parts list please
I don't really have a list. The led lights are all just from Amazon
P r o m o s m 😞
Eh?
Hell yeah
Hello! I see that you have lower crankcase ventilation up into the filter! Interesting solution! Are there kits available for this?
I'm not sure there are. I'm just got a small valve cover filter for a car and used a 3/8 male to male barb firing to attach it. However I will probably have to install a catch can at some point because these bottom breathers like to puke a little.
What oil and weight you gonna run? Cooler? I'd like to run an oil cooler but a good one like Jegs ain't cheap.
I have been using mobile 1 synthetic for vtwins and it has been working well on my bikes. The Evo doesn't run too hot, but I'll have to see how it goes in the summer...it's pretty hot in Florida. That being said, we are moving to Tennessee this year so that's exciting from a riders perspective.
It's your bike so you do what you want to it. No judgements as long as your making her mo betta and putting the love into her. Your doing just fine.
Doing the cam chest on my 103 twin cam. Like your style, new sub. Keep up the good work. I'll be watching.
Thanks dude!
Where did you get your oil lines and fittings? I'm getting ready to do a frame up build.
I actually just bought a cheap kit on Amazon. I have already received them and the quality is really good. Link here - a.co/d/bbRijmC

If they are still so available could you link the pistons couldn’t find them on jegs.

Also the bike I just got is the same Tin set, mostly stock besides some stage pipes and old man apes 🦍, I felt your pain with that needle bearing. Been in similar situations, but nice work with the heavy magnet. Got a Sub out of me, I’ll be posting up some similar content once the wrenching begins.
Just last night I took a buffer and some swirl remover to the tins....unreal the result. Paint looks like new. Thanks for the sub my dude. Much more to come.
Nice man, I plan on doing a budget build thread on my newly acquired FXR. Looking forward to watching. 🤘🏼🇺🇸🤘🏼
That's awesome dude. Yeah, a guy could throw a lot of money at these. But there are definitely ways around it.
😆👍
Enjoying the progress man!
