    Hey i need help on a project. I need a urethane that can stretch without flaking when dry, almost like a synthetic string. I need to apply to a string, a natural gut string. I need it to coat a natural gut string so it wont break when stretching. Ive try polyurethane oil, its a no go. It flakes and didnt become what i needed like a synthetic string. So what product of flexible urethane is good to apply to protect a natural gut string or what product is the right choice to coat the natural gut?

    How does this compare to a regular (electric) orbital sander that also has proper suction holes and sanding net instead of regular sand paper, like a 125MM/5" or 150MM/6" round one or a rectangular one? Which machines did you compare it with? I am deciding between this Mirka sanding block and a rectangular orbital sander and looking for the best dust extraction possible. For me, an electric machine is slightly preferred due to less work, but the Mirka ones are very expensive (although they seem to have the best dust extraction due to the many hole on all sides and corners). If the hand sanding block does make a difference, it is enough for me to purchase this hand sanding block too. Thanks again!

    • @DRV_Woodworks
      @DRV_Woodworks 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi, Bottom line, it's manual labor vs. electric sanders that do the work for you. If you wanna do light sanding, basically just scuff sanding that doesn't require much force, then this will be fine, which is what I used it for in the past. Since making that video, I haven't used It much since. I bought a festool orbital sander with the vacuum, and it's well worth the investment as I use it a lot. I would look into that before going with mirka products. Thanks for watching!

It dries incredibly fast and does not allow feathering in. I tried every thing - the nylon bushes, foam brush, rag, and a pre-app with a roller finishing up with a brush (which actually worked the best). Hello. Tx for the demo. I have a question. The Behr, the Varathane, and Saman, all seem like basically the same product, but is that true? Have you used Saman? But the problem I am having may not be related to the brand. Cz, I'm actually good with the first couple coats, it's once I am putting finish onto hardened finish, to build it up, so there is no soaking in.... either, I can't get it to level out, if I use a roller, it doesn't work, it dries fast and patchy and scratchy. The lines or stipples, no matter how I do it, foam brush, finishing brush, roller, it levels out 90% only, and that takes hours, .. or if I put it on thicker, it takes too long to dry and gets contaminated. I had a 1/4 inch icing layer on top, it looked like a translucent ceramic table, it was perfect, lol, worst cure of all of them. It's sitting in front of me now, with 15 coats on it, every one of them sanded between, and I can see scratches in the layers everywhere, It just seems like a terrible fkng product, for build up anyway... or is it me? lol Peace

    • @DRV_Woodworks
      @DRV_Woodworks ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching! I have not used Saman and never heard of it, actually. I have used Varathane, which is similar if not the same as the Behr version. I like the Behr the most, though. I don't believe I've ever applied it with a brush, just a roller or sprayer, and never have any issues. I'm not sure what's causing you such trouble. It's recommended that you apply light coats in between. Don't apply too thick. Otherwise, it will take a while to dry. I don't know the conditions you're working in either, but that could affect it as well. How large is the project surface area you are working on? Is this over a painted surface or raw wood? A good quality smooth roller with a longer nap will help spread things fast and smooth. You might even be able to use some flowing agents like floetrol to help it level out, but I would test that on a scrap piece before as I've never used it in water-based poly. I'm happy to help, but I need more info on your project.

    Thanks for the vid! I wanted to really see a non-promotional video to see what I might be able to realistically expect and you delivered! I was quite worried that the water based stain+poly might not look as rich as the oil-based, but your demonstration has assured me that I've got nothing to worry about :)

    How long did you wait for it to dry before applying the second coat? Did you use steel wool to make it shiny? …Can/should you use steel wool? Thanks.

      4 hours between coats as directed. I used 220 grit lightly sanding between coats. I've never used steel wool before, so I couldn't say, but I know some finishers do on certain projects. Doesn't hurt to give it a try. You can always use a finishing wax and buff it in. That makes for a very smooth finish.

    Do you need prestain conditioner for pine with this?

      I didn't use one, but I guess it depends on the type of wood that might require one as some woods take stain better than others. They do make it for this product. It's best to test it out on a scrap piece without it first and check the results.
