Well it depends… 1) Has the battery been replaced? (it is very old by now and will need replacement) 2) How many GB’s is it? (30 GB seems to be the most common, but they did come in higher capacities). A good starting point for a 5.5 with original battery and 30 GB would be around $65. It can go up or down from there depending on factors. Hope that helps.

Since it is an old model and an Accutron which is hard to fix. I would not recommend turning the hands backwards a great deal. Maybe a few minutes at most but I would mostly recommend turning them forward.

Unfortunately no, I never found a case and it is not worth it to me to fix if I cannot carry it. I still have it and maybe one day I will find a case and fix it up for carry and show. Unfortunately they don’t have the hard plastic ones for thick iPod. I have personally ordered from him and so I would recommend him for sure. Hope that helps!

So I have had more time to research and no, I don’t think a thick hardcover case exists. I don’t know why. I see lots of people asking for them and they are not around for some reason. I’m sorry I cannot be of more help.

I don’t see why not. As long as the display film comes off of the module, it should work. I have not tested on that model so I cannot say exactly.

If you can find the “Search” feature according to the video it is a 5.5, otherwise it is a 5th generation.

If the iPod is thin and there is not a lot of metal below the 30 pin and if the 160GB inscription is small, it is a 7th generation. Hope that helps.

You would have to plug it in with the 30 pin dock connector. The battery is over a decade old so it would probably need a replacement .

That is why in the video that you didn’t watch I showed switching Search on and how to do it. The serial number ending helps IF the seller actually bothers to show it. The point of the video is how to quickly tell it is a 5.5 because of the Search feature if you only see the screen and not a close up of the teeny weeny serial number on the back.

Thank you for the information, but that doesn’t help in seeing the iPod. There is no way to see that on the screen to differentiate the two models. When I say “the only way to know the difference” that is specifically referring to the “Search” function that can be seen on the screen as a quick way to tell. No one can see the ram on the screen and would not be able to use that information to determine which model it is based on an internet photo or if it is in their hand.

@@ourfamilyadventure326 my 30 gb 5 gen early jan 2006 has the search app too just like the 5.5 has!! So the best way to see that is to press menu and back button together and hold around 5 secs to see a bios menu and get the true vesion there!!

Then your iPod is a 5.5 and it has a superior quality sound according to everything I have seen. Also you wanna try to explain how to press the buttons to see the bios to an online seller who barely even knows how to turn it on? This video is a reference for someone to quickly tell the difference from an online photo not to go into the menutia of every single nitty gritty detail of ram and motherboard size and color variations of white and black betwixt the two and how one is ever so slightly taller. This video is just a quick reference for someone to tell the difference by glancing at one photo instead of interrogating the seller.

So how i know?? The serial number in the back match with motherboard on it !! So 5th gem jan 2006. The number on fame chip dac wolfson is the same on both. I have both too 5th gem 30gb and 60gb 5.5th gem. That is it!! By the way the 5 gem or the 5.5 has the same fame dac The difference between is memory ram nothing more than that!!! You can go there only through search thing cause the 5th gem has too.

I don’t disagree with you about the DAC, do the simplest of internet searches and you will find a plethora of blogs and videos discussing the differences betwixt the 5th gen and the 5.5 gen with most people saying that the 5.5 gen has a richer better sound quality than the 5th gen. Whatever Apple changed on the “Enhanced (5.5) iPod Video” made an ever so slightly better sound quality to that model. The iPod 5th gen Video is VEEERRRRYYYYYYYY close in sound quality and richness to the 5.5 gen but most people agree the 5.5 gen is better. The 5.5 also commands a higher amount of money than it’s predecessor. This video is for people who want the best and can just tell at a glance, you are not disagreeing with me but most people who argue this point.

It is possible because they are the same size… BUT it does require some sanding down of the clickwheel to get it to fit.

The screen on the 5.5 is brighter and is supposed to have a better sound than the 5th gen. The 5.5 gen video iPod is supposed to have the best sound because of the Wolfson DAC. Other than the sound, Search function and brighter screen they are pretty much the same, nothing too different betwixt the 5th gen and 5.5 in the processing of files or anything like that.

Hello, no the box surrounding the date on this particular watch is on the screen itself and not part of the polarized film. I cannot say that is the case with every single digital watch, but on this example the box is on the screen itself.

The battery may be hanging up on a ledge inside the case. Try to flip the mini with the screen down so that gravity will hold the battery down and maybe wiggle it.

Congratulations on getting the iPod. I love the voiceover feature myself. About the music library that depends on what type of music you like. I personally have gotten into Christian Hard Rock and Metal. I have discovered Stryper, Whitecross, Bloodgood and Petra. But again it is what you like. I actually have an iTunes account and buy anything I like, the songs can generally be bought individually. Here are some of my playlists to give you an idea of what you can do with it: I have a playlist of nature sounds like waves crashing on a beach or rain I have a playlist of Twilight Zone radio dramas I have my kids songs on their own playlist Christmas songs playlist And a few audiobooks for good measure I have bought most of these songs over the years from iTunes and it will take you awhile to get a good bit of songs together, but just start with what you like. I know this is a long answer and maybe doesn’t even help so just ask again if I didn’t answer well enough 🥹

I've just had a problem with nothing truly being yours with streaming services, just seems like I've been renting music or tv or movies. I like the idea of ownership! Alas no… I too have fallen victim to missing iPods. I have had iTunes not recognize my classic, shuffle and nano. I have searched high and low on the internet to no avail as everything recommended failed me 😢. I wish I could be of more help, hopefully you can find an answer soon.

It’s not the best input method for sure. I think Apple just added it as a “feature” just because they could. The main thing with the Search feature is that it is the only way to prove you have the 5.5 instead of just the 5th generation.

I like the Solitaire game as a concept and am able to play that a lot better than that Parachute game! Now Parachute SHOULD NOT have been on the iPod at all 🫤

I believe it is a damaged motherboard. The only thing I could do was replace the whole motherboard. It is really easy to work on these minis, here is my video showing a complete teardown IF you feel comfortable doing it. I did and it was less than 60 dollars (5.5) and when I opened it up I saw some quality control stickers on one of the cables and the screen inside. Yes, they put a new screen in the one I bought in 2023. It came only with light scratches on the body which I fully replaced anyway

It is considered a 6.5 generation an inbetween 6th and 7th generation.

😢 sorry. Look for the 7th generation online if you can, I know their expensive but sometimes you get lucky. Although like the video says a 6th generation is often shown as a 7th generation and vice versa.

@@DRMZBeatz the DAC is not the end all be all to say what the iPod is. iPods used the same DAC from generation to generation. The 160 GB thin back with small 160 GB writing is considered the 7th generation, the 120 GB is considered 6.5 generation, ALMOST a 7th generation but not. Sorry.
