Love the vid guys. Great to hear your views on your prior events and upcoming releases from BF. You guys do a great service for the FoW community and hope to see in some of the events next year!
Thanks Tom, much appreciated
Just curious but why are the Marines ick? I understand it’s only in jest, but maybe it’s also since I do not use the rules. *Edit: also, for modeling all of the forces in the Pacific, Peter Pig is a leading example with the fantastic head swaps. I will be using their miniatures to kit out my Volvo c303’s.
In this case, it's reflective of Mike's former career choices rather than a wargaming thing! :D
@@breakthroughassault4791 haha, I get it. I still feel gross transferring to the Army.
"I don't prepare ahead of time" don't worry it was very obvious
TIER LIST HYPE!
Who doesn't love a good Tier list?
If I am keeping track properly, this is really episode 15. Episode 14 was the rankings of Team Yankee Infantry
You are absolutely right. Title updated!
the surprise I'd like to see is the long awaited Italian front book
Absolutely!
Lee how Dare you. Early War before Pacific. That is sacrilege. I cannot believe you said such a thing. I am very disappointed in you. LOL Daryl
I blame Mike's bad influence.
Didn’t know this show existed, but I’m glad I found it! Real lack of team Yankee content out there!
Thanks! The plan was to cover both systems but there is a small Team Yankee bias...
A very good video, I do like the soviet infantry although I have a lot already, the American poses look cool and my small American force is to back up my IDF so I liked seeing them in the desert camo.
Thanks! Good luck with the desert camo.
The plastic kit is what swayed me into 15mm cold war. I was looking for a cold war game but didn't like the detail in the metal. For the US infantry, in the Marine Corps, the M203 gunner is the team leader (NCO), while in the Army, the team leader has just an M16, which may be why we don't see NCO poses, as it would be in place with one service branch but not the other. When I was putting my Marine rifle company together, I was tempted to put a 5th figure on some of the bases just to act as a squad leader but they don't really have a significance in the game so decided not to.
Ah! Good to know on the squad leader! Many thanks. Yeah, it doesn't make any game difference. More of a modelling detail.
I have the WWIII starter set and have been 3d printing M113s to go with it. I suppose I should buy one of these boxes to fill them with infantry? They look like good value.
If all you want is mechanised infantry then the smaller (and cheaper) American Mech Platoon is the better option as its just SAW teams and Dragon teams; none of the support weapons like M60 and SMAW that you don't need. The Rifle Platoon has all the bits you need to make a mech platoon, but there is a lot of wastage if you don't want to have the capability of fielding at least one parachute rifle or USMC platoon!
@breakthroughassault4791 ah, perfect. That's the $15 box right? I'll pick one of them up.
Is it 1/72 scale?
No, this is 15mm (1/100ish)
@ oh ok
Very useful video. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
I did some digging, and it looks like the smoke discharger/box combo is for the USFK M48A5's used by the US in Korea. The ROK M48's have smoke dischargers but not the attached ammo box. The US M48's also look like they had M2 .50 cals on the Urdan cupola vs the ARNG/reserve tanks stateside that just used the M60D's and did not mount the smoke dischargers. I have not been able to pin down a transition date for the M48A5 being replaced by M60A3's in Korea. I didn't get there till 91 and they had already transitioned to M1A1s.
Excellent digging!
I believe that the M48A5s in Korea got sold to the ROK, where they became WRSA versions (most distinctly, no side skirts). There was a trade dispute between the US and ROK about selling the latter the M60 so it would have been held back from deployment to prevent the Koreans from reverse-engineering it (which they did a lot of at the time) and to prevent diplomatic issues with the US ally. The US continued to refuse selling the ROK the M60, which led to the ROK working with a German firm to develop the K1, although the US decided to muscle in on that one and the end of the K1's development was with Chrysler, with the US maintaining export control on a number of components of the tank while doing some tech transfer to South Korea. However, as the K1 was all domestic manufacturing it required a longer lead-up time so the M47 and M48 continued on in service well past their nominal use-by date. Given that most of the DPRK's tank fleet were some variant of T54/55 or T-62 it wasn't a pressing issue, but the later Cheonma-Ho series (T-62 derivatives) were hard enough to require better armour and a 120mm gun on ROK tanks.
I do like that the range finder peices are separate with the little inlet. The M60 kit doesnt have the detail, making it harder to paint in the range finder lenses.
Yep. It certainly helps add some detail.
As always: great review 🥳🥳🥳 interesting, that you still use standard plastic glue and not the extra thin cement. I evaluate it as a gamechanger because you can simply put the parts together and then apply the thin cement with no residue on the model 🎉 looking foward to your next review👍👍👍
I think it's a sunk cost fallacy on my part on the basis that I have, like, six of the Revell Contacta sitting in my drawer that never seem to run out. I should switch to an extra thin, though.
@@breakthroughassault4791 of course the choice is yours👍and your environmental awareness is commendable 😉👋👋👋 My Contacta always 😉dried, and using the lighter to clean was a little bit unhealthy.🤢 As mentioned: cant wait for you next review😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀
Thanks for the video. FUBAR may be slightly harsh for VDV Afgantsy. Sure, only 6 teams per platoon, but hit on 4+, the same as W. Germans - also 6 teams per platoon and hit on 4+. But the VDV have a better counterattack of 3+, have RPG-7VRs, etc. Also, I'm not sure whether Defend stance was considered when ranking. Then RDFs, upgraded Bradleys and BMP-3s are less useful since they have FA4+ and usually need to be in Reserves.
Wheely good
What models are you using for the Blackhawks?
I got four Revell 1:100 Blackhawks. I wish I had got four more at the time. Like rocking horse poop now!
I don't play Team Yankee (yet) but when I see that it's a tier list video...
I wonder, if Mike will ever have a decent camera ... oh well. To be fair i mostly treat this as a podcast anyway. Like always i enjoy your rambelings. - Also just looking at the stupid ASU 85, i have to wonder, why we havent seen a plastic PT-76...
BTR-50 too. It'd be a hell of a kit! I think Mike and I adopted the philosophy that no one really wanted to look at us. The ranking is the important bit.
VDV Mentioned 🗣🧢
Excellent review😀😀😀 Very thorough and detailed analysis with a very good visualization. 👍👍👍The uniform comparison with the real ones was very helpful👏👏👏
Thank you kindly @viperseven!
"There is no way to get PKM machine guns..." false. Team Yankee is ostensibly a (alt)historical game. They dot pay royalties to general dynamics when you buy a box of BFVs. There is nothing whatever stopping you from getting PKMs by the armful from old glory, QRF, empress, or literally anyone else that makes 15mm cold war figures.
That is true. But these discussions are very much centred around a FLGS supply chain. Ultimately, "3D printer goes bbrrtt" fixes many issues (though also renders most the content discussion moot), even before looking at the wide variety of potential third parties. Though, you'd have to be really desperate to need to go to QRF.
@@breakthroughassault4791 are QRF that bad? Hard to tell because their website is all but unuseable.
Thanks for the review Lee! Very good to have the painted infantry to actually show what you can do with them
Thanks! That's exactly the reason I painted them, and not an excuse to not do the French Resistance platoon...
Great review!!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Both sets look pretty awesome.
I needed to grab some more soviet infantry so I am glad I waited.
As an East German player, they were just punching bags. Switched to American and only have to deal wirh shitty morale. Good switch. Warpac blows ass.
I think I’ll still get the box, but play in the 1980s timeframe. Even with the incorrect version of the cobra the rest of the is bang for the buck.
Absolutely. Not like the Cobras can't find a use elsewhere.
@@breakthroughassault4791 I just think BF should make the twin engine. Seen a bunch of people finding other models for it. It would fit both team Yankee and ‘NAM
I ordered both the USMC & Soviet box, while i only want the BMPs and Infantry, the discount is enough to pick them over individual boxes. For a while i considered pushing back the BMPs, but the bonus sprue was enough to buy them now and build them later. Iirc i mentioned this before, but even i got one, the Soviet box is a slight miss, mostly due to the tanks and the aircraft. To be honest, i am no fan of aircraft and helicopters in the boxes. Of course i know they are an important part of the game, but i think most boxes would be better without them, either making them cheaper or adding a few other models. But now to the USMC rifle company, overall i like this. When i read the instructions and read the bit about leaving the UH-1s in reserve i had to chuckle, since that was something you predicted in the Tier List video (with my hate for [BF] resin, i ended up printing my own AAVPs). Yes, the AH-1s are not quite correct, but unless there is something else, they will have to suffice. Much like gust0o mentioned, the use of Thermoplastic bits for the M60 is... well... a slight letdown. I grabbed another box of Humvees and printed some Harriers and the Army is complete...
My buddy with a printer has found a AH-1W model so that takes care of that. Mike and I often struggle with the aircraft in an army box. I generally favour NATO attack helicopters as a pair is still viable. But strike aircraft and Hinds often feel somewhat redundant.
Where can i find the m60 era point cost?
Only place is on the unit card so far. Forces hasn't been updated yet.
Those silly plastic turrets are crap.
They don't compare well to the hard plastic Russian ERA. Thankfully stowage hides a multitude of sins...
That new M60 card has the ERA keyword and two different armor profiles. Forces of War does not have the updated profile and points.
No, hopefully it will be updated soon.
Urgh, no plastic ERA upgrade - that's a real shame ftom Battlefield. Great video
I agree, i wasn't happy, when i found those in the box. The turret parts fitted well enough, but i couldnt get rid of the warpin of the hull ERA bit, tried heating and rebending but nothing worked. It's not super noticeable, but you can notice a slight bend. After the T-64 & T-72 i was really hoping for a second plastic sprue, maybe with the extra bits for the Israeli variants, since those are the next army on the horizon. On the other hand, 5 M60 with era are enough for my Marines, so i can repurpose the rest i own to make donate to my Austiran Army.
Yeah, my hull pieces were much the same. Not really noticeable unless you look for it. I hold out a slim hope that there will be a hard plastic upgrade when the IDF book rolls around, albeit configures for BLAZER rather than the US pattern, but suspect thus may be it.
If any team has a spare spot I'd be happy to join in for some ETC experience
Hey Rob. I am hopeful we can find you a team for this year as a merc. Unless you want to find 2 other welsh players and then run Wales?
@breakthroughassault4791 one day I'd love to be part of a welsh team but would like to experience it first without also setting everything up for a team
@@valleygamingfowmesbgswl It's no hassel at all to make a team. I will be happy to help. You just need 3 Welch citizens or people who have lived in Wales for the last 3 years. There are enough players that want to come and join a team, it's the number of teams that's the limiting factor.
Thanks for the event report and discussion. Always interesting.
This was my first ever trip to ETC and I had an absolute blast! It was so much fun to meet and play against people from all over the world. I highly recommend it for players of any level!
Just got my boxes: The Russian box gets the mentioned heavy weapons sprue including enough bases to build all weapon teams (i was wondering how they would do this). The Marines box gets you a bunch of free desert storm theme tokens, the M60 bits are (sadly) resin, the crew models for all HMMVV variants are included (incl Stingers). The unit cards are odd, you get every Marines related card Harriers, AA7VP, LAV-AD; UH-1s, not a bad thing of course, but usually you only get what's in the box. Let me quote a note, that i found funny, because you literally mentioned it in the video: " Rifle Platoons can have either the AA7VP transports or UH-1 helicopters. Until you have decided which transport option you want (!) you can simply field the helicopter and leave them liotering of the table.
Once again, i had fun listening to the video (mostly) during the last week's painting. This is a solid release by Battlefront. This makes me look forward to the German and British infantry, Peter mentioned during an interview with the MFA guys. But i guess those will be a year or more until we see those.
What do u play flames
exactly the video I was looking for - but had to give up half way through the graphics were just too tiny... hopefully a v2 at some point.
There is an update of sorts when we added the D-Day starters on
Yeah the transport option for USMC is very spendy!
not a player just an observer. weird they dont let you use the lav 25 as a transport for marines cus it is one
With its mighty four-person capacity. As I understand it, the USMC use it in a cavalry capacity rather than an APC capacity. The dismounts are for scouting purposes.
@@breakthroughassault4791 rog, well, wiki shows it 3+6, some variants of the lav-25 go to 8 pax cargo. armoured cav and recce in force screen tasks can conduct raids, ambushes, maintaining contact etc. while admittedly cav doctrine is kinda bizarre I think there is definitely scope for a lav 25 to serve as a troop transport in the conduct of a fighting patrol. just a thought. idk how it would work out in TY with the game's limitations. flames has armoured recce groups and smaller troop transports. like the german 250.
Well technically the Sea Stallion and Sea Knight are on the BF Airassault PDF and the cut outs count as legal models. So the cost for the USMC transport is next to zero.
Would love to see a video talking about what we might get in the Pacific expansion of FoW
Something to discuss!
I play FOW,and I'm a literal teenager, got started around 2 years ago now. So part of the under 40 club
Good to have you onboard
I have to disagree with your asessment on the T-64BV vs T-80 situation. I expect that we are going to see more NATO 120mm and against the AT 22/23 it makes a huge difference if you are front armour 20 vs 18. Soviet mid-tier tanks are just in a weird spot where they are too squishy against elites but also don't have enough fire power against hordes - just like NATO engineers intended.
That's fair. Playing versus Mike's M1s and the ability to ignore his fire from the front and just focus on the allied German Milan 2 was a big boon for the T-80. Still, just ordered three boxes of T-64BV!
Swiss lists are so broken they hurt my eyes! Top 6 US, Poland, UK, Italy, Denmark, France. The meta is the same as it has been for so long.
By UK do you mean England. As it could be Northern Ireland. 😊
Thanks for the chat folks. I hope you all enjoy the event.
I can see reason for most of the changes. Some things went to far, maybe, other things should have been adjusted, also maybe, but overall it is good, that the system is actively monitored. My major issues might be the horrible layout of the pdf including the points changes, inculding the points change might have been useful info, because this is relevant information and that forces is not updated at this point (and if Games Workshop tought me anything, it is that handeling with multiple books and FAQs for points is just horrible). At least you haven't done a tank tier list, that would have been a mess now. Always enjoying Time of Day, keep it coming.
