Come along with Max while we explore the wilderness surrounding the Edisto River basin in South Carolina.
Please, if you love the outdoors, always try to pick up a little debris and trash while you're out. South Carolina's forest and waterways need some tinder loving care.

Nature walking and talking about ghost stories and other mythical creatures. Today we are discussing a headless woman that haunts a portion of the N. Edisto River.
Don't use a chainsaw like this...

Cleaning up pines that I had to cut down after Helene.
I only wear sunglasses and flip flops. That's all the safety equipment I need. Oh, and a quick full strength beer before I start. Works for me.
You need leg protection and boots. A chain at high speed can literally KILL you in less than a second. OK, so it might take 15 to 20 seconds to bleed out, the damage can be so quick.....
eye protection, gloves, and earmuffs; also prevent the chain hitting the ground, for sharpness
Thank you... Yeah very poor working methods.
Uff Da !!!!
Prime candidate for the ER. What??? Oh! I Forgot hearing loss, sorry.
Did you get a burn permit for that?
He'll no!
@ 👀📝
I know someone who lost his leg with one. Be careful.
I can smell that pine sap from here.
Yes, I love that smell.
I’ve had chain saw safety training at two different employers . Since then I always wear chaps and safety glasses and leather gloves and boots . I also have learned to always engage the chain bar lock whenever I step over objects or set down the saw etc . Nobody near me while sawing .
Biggest thing with chainsaws, weed eaters, use non ethanol fuel and carbs won’t get screwed up 👍
Yes, atvs too. Ethanol is just terrible for small engines.
I bought 2 of the smaller containers of the premixed fuel. They are easier to pour fuel into my saw then using a regular fuel can. Just keep filling them up with the fuel i mix.
I used to always mix my own fuel until this year. Just don't use it enough to mix a gallon at a time. Plus, the premix claims it has stabilizer in it.
My ms460 cold, starts with 1 pull my ms200t is a different story
I used to work for a public agency that didn't properly train their employees on the safe use of power tools. We had one guy try and stop the chain saw by rubbing it against the kevlar chaps that he was wearing. Well, he went to the hospital with relatively minor cuts. The chaps will slow down the saw, not stop it. Just like every other piece of safety equipment you should be wearing. On a side note, if you feel the need to make a sawing motion with a chain saw, then you probably need to sharpen up the chain.
Been cutting for years and i always wear proper PPE and im okay 😂😂😂😂😂😂. Imagine that. 😂. Seen lots of nasty stuff over the years to know PPE is necessary and not wearing it isn't macho, its stupid
Zero safety concerns, ear, eye, hands, legs . Don’t worry about the brain. It’s gone. St. Paul, Minnesota
Two things you got wrong, 1st A craftsman chainsaw, 2nd premix fuel big no no. Get a husky or stilh and echo red armour 2 cycle oil with 89 or more octane!!!!
1. Not all chainsaws with the Crapsman name are bad. 2. Most canned premixed fuel is fine. Just stay away from Tru-Fuel.
He got the job done. Even with all the shortfalls. Most people who buy chainsaws never have a chainsaw safety class. That’s just as important as a driver’s Ed for a car. I have 3 different Stihl gas chainsaws & an Echo at work. The Stihl’s is a more capable saw over an Echo. I would say the Echo brand is a premium consumer level power tool. Craftsmen is near the middle to bottom. Depending on which one he owns. We all know Poulan & Harbor Freight are the bottom for quality. They will all do the job if they are sharp & well maintained. Most saws are not after they first purchase them.
For the people that think that was dangerous, they should have seen me climb the trees to tie a rope. I didn't film that because I just knew it was going to end badly. I used my climbing sticks for my bow stand and that worked ok.
Wow! I got tired just watching the start sequence. My 20 year old "Husky" starts with no more than 3 pulls, even at -30°C after (rarely)sitting for several months. I've felled and bucked-up hundreds of bush chords; I'm still in one piece, see well and hear plenty well enough to hunt successfully. "Use the brain and well maintain" is what my Dad used to tell us for all equipment use.
Ok, these new saws are basically junk but to be fair I had the switch off. I bought this because I had four trees die and a professional wants thousands of dollars to take them down and hual them off. Well, I have all 4 cut down, one chopped into firewood was an oak, the last three were in the video. The saw was 150 dollars and it looks like I can make beams to fix my barn. I'd say it's paid for itself. Most people are afraid of work and anything dangerous. That's OK they will pay to have it done. Unlike us.
"Just follow the instructions; read the user manual. Don't do it like me." -Literally two seconds later: "Okay! Yea. It worked."
The first clue was the craftsman chain saw 😊
#1 Stihl #2 husky #3 echo #4 let the tree rot.
There's been excellent models with the Crapsman name on them over several decades.
But like most products the dependability and quality has gone down hill.
@@williambray4134 Haha I agree i was just picking, it’s more about the operator and how they take care of the equipment. I’ve had STIHLs, an echo and a couple Poulans over the years and they all worked great with the proper care.
@@MK-xl9tt I have a few 1970s Poulans, one being branded as a Crapsman.
That was painful to watch lol
I run my saw in shorts, tank top, and flip flops, that's the only way to go in the hot summer time
He forgot to count how many fingers and toes he had left. That's right, he couldn't. He's blind from the debris due to no eye protection and he is bleeding out from a severed femoral artery.
Don’t forget your seatbelt pfd.
And vaccines 😁
I've cut wood for 35 years never used chaps or eye protection think I'm ok!
50 years here and I can still see, hear and walk just fine.
Don't get cocky, and jinx yourselves.
@D-B-Cooper I doubt it
@ you doubt what, that people get old and still do stuff they have done their whole lives?
@@D-B-Cooper @D-B-Cooper I doubt your health remains the same after 50 years of usning a chainsaw without the safety measures meant to preserve your health and safety. Anyone that fails to use the proper safety equipment available to prevent injury while operating chansaws is also likely to disregard tons of other health and safety measures meant to protect them in other areas of life too. So yeah, I doubt your health is "just fine" after 50 years of disregarding safety protocols.
👍👍🙏🙏
Back cuts are too high
There is a powering behind the trees and I wasn't taking any chance they would fall that direction. I used ropes and a winch to ensure the trees would fall where I wanted.
@northedistooutdoors nice, hinge wood reacts properly with a flat cut one or two inches above front flat cut. Stay Safe!
Those stumps with the high back cuts…..wow! You can tell that an amateur dropped those trees. Get some wedges, proper safety equipment, and run the proper fuel mix ratio. Tune the carb to run better on the 40:1.
Born and grew up on the edge of Charleston County. I was told that there were “panthers” in the swampy woodlands / marshes far back from the coast (this was more than 65 years ago, much wilder than now). According to the stories, they could “scream like a woman”. Never heard or saw anything myself.
Panthers in the swamp sounds pretty spooky!
Yes, up here, the "panthers" were rumored to have roamed. That was probably 70 years ago. I have seen cougars on game cameras even though they aren't supposed to be in our state.
Best lesson learned by watching is"Don't do what i do"!
Just looking at your felling notches you are on borrowed time ,The chainsaw is more than likely the most dangerous tool you will ever use. Get educated or the next time might be your last. You can never be to safe, Helmet, Chaps, eye protection gloves and boots are your friends ,use them. The most important safety item is your Brain use it!
As mentioned, gloves, proper clothing to include boots, hearing and eye/face protection a must! I also found out the hard way that one should wear protective chaps. I didn't and the saw kicked back causing a nice slice in my leg. Luckily, no permanent damage, but I went right out and got a pair. It paid off! Happy cutting!
Thanks for sharing!
Yes, hearing and eye protection are a must. Gloves also would have been a nice touch.
YT send me to help it seems - get some eye and hearing protection - the other stuff is (almost) irrelevant
Sounds like Blair Witch 4 to me.
Yes, a lot of strange accidents happened near here that folks attribute to the headless spector.
Such a cute dog
Thanks!
Need a whole video of that
Yup, that's rain alright.
Nothing like the sound of rain on the leaves. Music for the soul.🌿
Yep, I will do what I can to get a 3-5 minute video. I wasn't prepared this time and water got into the mic.
The fox had injured its front right paw. Sad really, it has to be in pain.
