Ok, It's not that deep, but I have been doing some reflecting lately and it seemed like a good time to have a conversation. Basically it's a discussion of what brought me to doing this channel for the past four years. It' part nostalgic, part reflective, part funny and part emotional. So thank you in advance if...

Like you, I'd never heard of this. I'm intrigued, especially after you saying it reminds you of Hills Have Eyes 2 (terrible movie but I have a nostalgic love of it.) I might pick this one up during a sale. I have a soft spot for films with winter settings.
Mine still hasn't even shipped. So far I'm not impressed by vinegar syndrome.
@@LXTUS_EATXR not sure how many times you've purchased from them before, but this is a regular thing to wait a long time for shipments from them. Sounds like this year's sale is taking even longer than usual because they sold out of The Keep in less than 3 days which rarely ever happens to them.
Love this film, am yet to watch the TV cut and the sequel, I'm waiting to see if Amazon lowers their current price for Alligator 2.
I was a little tempted by this since, for years (like many,) I thought it was my own weird video store discovery that no one else knew about which obviously isn't the case since this has a huge cult followng. I'll always have nostalgia for it, for that reason, but it's really a pretty terrible movie. I was excited to get the Via Vision DVD a few years ago but I hesitated to pay the price VS wanted for this special edition 4k. I'll definitely pick up the standard edition when it's half off though.
One of those "naughty" films that my mom and her girlfriends went to see in the '70s. I caught up with it on HBO late one night and learned A LOT! lol. Great disco soundtrack, bettered only by "Eyes of Laura Mars" the next year.
Mixed Nuts was one of my favorites back in the day, and just watched it again this Christmas. Liev's character was great, and it was really a standout performance. Thanks for discussing this light-hearted, quirky, underappreciated film. 👍
Great haul Chuck! Just found the channel and am going to check out some past vids. Do you talk about other Melusine releases? I've picked up quite a few lately.
@realshaolinprince I actually have a series I occasionally do called "Cinema After Dark" where I talk about some adult titles. It's been a little bit since I've done one though. I'm working on a few ideas though.
Man! Thanks so much for doing this video. One of my most vivid lasting Christmas memories is staying awake late on Christmas Eve 1986 and watching this on HBO with my older sister. I fell asleep on the living room floor and my parents just let me stay there all night. I was 10 and there were presents under the tree in the morning when I woke up. I'll never forget it. It's been a lifelong perennial favorite ever since and in the years since its been so interesting to learn the background on its production and what high hopes they had for it and how it flopped. I recall getting a bunch of Santa Claus The Movie merchandise on clearance at K-mart or some department store. I might even still have the storybook somewhere in my house. I'm really frustrated Lionsgate has not released the 4K in the U.S. yet but anticipate maybe getting it next year.
I'll definitely be picking this up during Barnes & Noble's half off Arrow sale. One think that drives me nuts with Arrow is they don't do dual format on their 4K. I like having that blu-ray for back up and to play in other rooms of the house.
I'm tempted by this. My friends and I have been doing an annual get-together we call the Christmas Crapfest every year for over 20 years where we find the wildest non-traditional Christmas films we can find and watch them with our own commentary. It all started with THIS film, so it holds a special spot for me but I feel like the blu-ray is pretty darn good. It's certainly far beyond any level of quality I ever thought I'd see when we were watching my buddy's old VHS in 2002, so I didn't feel like I needed to jump on the 4K right away but will almost certainly get it in a Scream Factory sale next year.
@@dudemcmann6936 that's awesome!
@dudemcmann6936 the new Blu-Ray is a 4K remaster as well, so it's even better looking than the HD scan on the original. Honestly, either way you can't go wrong!
I was watching the Santa Conquers the Martians extras when the notification for this video came up! I'm bummed I missed out on the slipcover, one of the rare 1% of Slipcovers I care about having. Some of those 80s Christmas commercials brought back the memories! Other than that, I skipped the sale this year because I'm not a big enough fan of The Keep to worry about FOMO and the others were not of enough interest for me to spend more money than I've already spent this month. I spent enough with Severin. Had to have that Rats 4k, it's one of my favorite Pasta-pocalypse films. One of the greatest endings in movie history.
Nice post! I watch this one frequently and enjoy it a lot. It may not be entirely successful, but it's got a lot of laughs and some great scenes. It's a nice alternative to some of the overplayed movies. I never saw the original French movie, but would like to see some of it just out of curiosity.
I've been on a Neverending search for non-traditional Christmas films ever since me and my cousins watched Die Hard in my grandparents' basement on Thanksgiving night 1989 (new to video at the time) while the older folks were upstairs hanging out. I've found some great stuff and some not-so-great stuff and, as much as I tried to like Mixed Nuts over the years, its just always been a tough watch for me.
@@dudemcmann6936 I know it isn't for everybody. I think I'm just a Steve Martin apologist. LOL
They only ever seem to give the first film the royal treatment. The other installments will probably never see their individual Blu-Ray and 4K releases, which angers me to no end as I'm not a fan of unnecessary box sets as much as I am solo discs. Speaking of which, the newer ANOES Blu-Ray set has two particular movies on one disc. Major NO-NO! Guess I'll continue to wait for single Blu-Ray releases of 2 through 7. Hope it doesn't take an eternity. 😩
@VivaciousVirgO according to Warner Bros, the collection is being released sometime in '25. No details yet though.
I enjoyed this movie. Looks good in 4K. I don’t mind the 4K being just the theatrical version

Great release. I preordered it the moment it was announced. Received this week. Always loved this movie. Wesley Snipes best role IMO. Great video..
I was born in 72 and was one of the lucky ones to see star wars in the cinema here in the uk around Jan 78!..London got it at the end of Dec 77 then the rest of the UK got it jan 78!..I had all the toys as well like some kids would c collect different franchises but I just focused on star wars...watching star wars on the big screen is what got me into being interested in movie collecting starting with vhs!🙂
I saw it for my birthday on Sat the 21st of May. I had literally zero context for it, and my young brain was completely and utterly blown. On the way back to the car my dad needed a sit-down and we stopped at Burger King for a meal... it was literally the one and only time we ever got fast food.
Great video and story Chuck you seem like a cool dude and you talk about what I like
@LetsPlayAGame1987 thank you so much!
Really enjoyed this Chuck 🎉
@@PlanetCHH thank you! That means a lot coming from you! I appreciate the support.
I think it's too bad on the special edition version of the film that they didn't leave in all the songs from the original movie with all the other add-on songs they included all the other cuts we're good but it's unfortunate that if you only watch the special edition you're missing some Elvis performances
@bencool5823 yeah, I completely agree
The theatrical version even wasted time showing almost an entire performance of an Elvis imitator in England I don't know who the editor was in this movie but why would anybody want to see that when they got the real Elvis and they're cutting him out
Man, I can relate to so much of this! We're roughly the same age. I stuck with VHS & laserdisc for so long because I couldn't afford DVDs in those early days and only had hand-me-down CRT TVs for so many years. It was shortly before the pandemic that I finally got an early 2000s CRT HDTV (1080i) hand-me-down from a family member who upgraded to a Plasma TV. The thing weighs a TON! Then in short order my wife won an HD LCD TV when she upgraded her smart phone and bought a blu-ray player. I was finally in a financial position to start upgrading everything to DVD but by then blu-ray had won the HD format war and a friend of mine who had been collecting blu-rays since about 2015 convinced me to start spending the extra few bucks to upgrade straight to blu-ray instead of DVD since we already had the player and 2 HDTVs. When the pandemic hit, I had more time to shop online and discovered Vinegar Syndrome, Blue Underground, Severen and all these other great boutique labels restoring those crazy Friday night video store discoveries I found in the 80s & 90s! My life hasn't been the same since. Ha! I've since upgraded to a 4k player and a 70 inch screen I got on clearance at Best Buy and have turned the attic of our old house into a theater complete with some old theater seats from the 80s that I got cheap from a local theater that closed their doors. Theres a good likelihood I watched Back to the Future Part II or Indiana Jones & The Last Crusade in this very seats. Ha!
That's awesome! Thanks so much for sharing!
I have a similar story or arc. I’m 43 born in ‘81. So for the most part I can relate to most of what you mentioned minus being old enough to see some of those epic 80s films in the theaters. But my parents did have HBO-Showtime back then. I can remember around in ‘86 watching HBO and certain films came on like the last dragon, legend of billie jean, silver bullet, fright night, gremlins, etc I think the first Star Trek I can remember was probably search for Spock that was on Showtime probably in 86-87. Like you I recorded a ton off tv, cable etc. Then eventually when I got money I would get some VHS. Then eventually got into dvd around 2003 or so. I used to make videos around 2014-15. So like you I would go on TH-cam find collectors, and people into movies and I eventually started making videos of my own. I sorta stopped but I met some cool people here as you mentioned. I’ve watched Pizowell for years when he was part of the original sausage factory. And some of the other people you named so TH-cam has been a source of a community that you can talk movies, and physical media etc. In real life most people don’t quite get the buying movies etc. Keep doing what you’re doing. If it’s a way to de-stress that’s great! Thanks for sharing
@leeroygreene85 thanks for sharing and the kind words!

I’m your newest subscriber. I enjoy the videos I’ve watched. This video was cool. I too can’t find anyone in my life that cares about physical media. My wife loves to watch movies too but if she can stream it, she would. But she supports my addiction. lol. Keep it going. You seem like one of the genuine TH-camrs. There aren’t many. Thanks for the videos.

L année 82 c'est mythique je suis né en 79
Nice! I saw your other video last night and the algorithm showed me this update this morning. This is the release that got me to buy a 4K player. I'm still bummed I can't watch the extras because of the region locking. I dug the soundtrack CDs. Interestingly, about a year later I got to see Goblin live in a town just south of Indianapolis and bought the 2-disc Italian release of the Dawn of the Dead soundtrack on CD.
I haven't watched it but I imagine it's probably not distracting. The burn for many people is that they used A.I. at all when it was thoroughly unnecessary, especially for a movie like Jaws 3. I'm a purist when it comes to film and I hate it when filmmakers and studios screw around with movies after the fact. I hate Lucas' Star Wars special editions and all the chaos that he started with those of fixing what's not broken using inferior computer technology.
Wow, this slipped under my radar as well. I hate media books. This is the way all box sets should be released.
This was actually the release that got me to buy a 4K player. Ha! I am so annoyed that Rubinstein is blocking it from being released in the U.S. I got lucky enough to get the big box farely cheap from a guy online who had bought it then got gifted it by his girlfriend shortly after who didnt know he'd bought it. Unfortunately I haven't been able to watch the blu-ray extras because my 4k player still region locks blu-rays.
Raiders is still one of my top 10 favorite films but I was also reluctant to get this either becuase the blu-rays look so good. I agree it was really crappy packaging and the 4k scan is really nice but not so much of a step up that I wanted to pay full price. Luckily I found it used at a reaale shop.
@dudemcmann6936 thanks for the comment! Be sure to check out my recent video on Blockbuster Boxsets to see how I remedied that packaging problem.
@chuck31 I've been checking out several of your videos since finding the Angel video. I keep thinking you seem familiar. Have you ever been on The Disc Connected or on one of Pizowell's panels?
@dudemcmann6936 No, I haven't. I've just followed both. I've never met or personally spoken to Pizowell. Just through brief comments. I'm a fan of his though. It was him and Planet CHH that inspired me to even attempt to do this. lol Thanks for checking out my videos. It's appreciated!
Man I was so happy when Shout released this. I hated that the WB blu-ray went out of print. This is absolutely my favorite Oliver Stone film. Was so excited to see in in the theater in 1993 because I was OBSESSED by the JFK conspiracies as a kid. Shout really went all out on this release. I wish all their packaging was this nice. I also wish Stone had done Nixon in a similar way instead of it being a bio-pic.
I can't wait to pick this up. I love documentaries. I got pretty discouraged with the film industry in the 21st century and, for many years, the only new movies I watched were feature length documentaries.
