My focus is Adult Development for all levels including beginning players and those competing competitively. My own redefined views, methods, and concepts that are unique to my coaching, can be found exclusively in my videos. I enjoy responding to comments and questions. I also take particular interest in requests for videos and technique break down. My background is in Physical Therapy with more than three decades spent. This has given me a patience and attention beyond an ordinary coach. I’m not someone who played tennis as a junior and suddenly thought I was qualified to teach. Although I do have extensive athletic accolades and achievements, I come to you with a greater understanding of biomechanics, mental and psychological strategies; and a goal oriented path (or prescription) that progresses my adult students. I hope my videos can contribute to your search and advancement in tennis. If you enjoy them please subscribe.

Defense, a critical skill in pickleball
Defense in Pickleball is key, especially when you are looking for a partner, it is one of the first qualities you should consider. Defense first, then finesse and control, while power and put-away shots are something that most recreational players rely too much on. Power shots can become more error prone if you neglect other skills necessary for the game.

How to begin to hit top spin and the importance of the off hand
มุมมอง 1.4Kหลายเดือนก่อน
Often we are taught to catch the ball with our offhand, but I teach it from a different perspective. You should instead use your off hand to block the ball as it approaches and the distance the ball is from your hand as it approaches is proportionate to the racket and the hand holding the racket. This provides a point where you are swinging in a path that goes under your offhand, forcing you to...

Tennis Forehand -open to closed by tracing the ball with the off hand
มุมมอง 7786 หลายเดือนก่อน

Quick Tip: Extending the arm on a tennis forehand when it seems difficult to develop.
มุมมอง 2.1K7 หลายเดือนก่อน
If you find yourself jammed and struggling to get an extended arm on your forehand swing, you may find it beneficial by keeping the swing low in its preparation phase (or backswing). This develops an extended arm. Once corrected you can progress or advance to a higher backswing knowing you can extend the arm correctly into the path of the ball contact.

great stuff as always Adam
Thanks, I appreciate it.😊👍
It’s so helpful to see it several times with an explanation! Thank you so very much for such wonderful tips! There is so much to learn in Tennis! 🎾
First time that I see this explanation. It gave me a much better understanding of the different spins in the serve. Thanks
That flexion must be adding something. Tiafoe, Khachanov, Kyrgios do similar.
Funny thing, a student of mine having a hard time with timing and backswing prep, we decided to add a little Tiafoe wrist action prep and who would have thought, for him it was the solve all solution. Easy for him to remind himself too during games… just says “tiafoe” and he stays consistent without venturing toward old swing paths.
This is very helpful. And thank you for the patient explanation. I’m not based in U.S. but any ways I could buy you a beer?
It has been 7 days since i tried to implement this adjustment, it feels like my racket has spring in it, ball panetrates like anything. I have been playing recreational tennis from 16 years , I though I had a good forehand and people used to fear my forehand, but this adjust ment added xfactor which was missing. Now i am not getting it natuarally, old habits are creaping , i keep going to ball close , working on it, doing shadow practice slowly improving. I use wilson juice , If i increase my racket weight it will be even deadlier. Thanks a lot for this hidden gem.
You are welcome… glad it has helped😊👍🎾🎾
I tried this and its working, earlier i used to hit loopy forehand now they are going in flat and low and more power, Thanks for this video.
yes, this is my problem , i was trying to extend but dont get it at all in the match, Will do this drill and see if that works, Thanks. Explained in an easy manner
I tried your idea of twist/kick serve. It is very helpful. now i am able to increase the percentage on my second serve. thank you very much!! I do have concern about your concept of slice serve. When I experimented slice the ball's lower part with slight open rocket face, the ball fly with a nice curve but pretty slow. and the bounce is too high, as high as some kicks. my version of slice is to hit on the horizontal line with half pronation(full on flat) . it will much faster and bounce low. However, the success rate is lower than your version.. any suggestion to increase slice pace when hit slice from low to high?
Thank you for the comment. You are in fact correct. The concept of the bottom hemisphere for the slice IS slow… but this is for players to begin to grasp the idea of the ball strike. You could try to get more velocity and pace with the slice by tossing the ball further into the court and lean into the serve more. Try that and see if it helps. 😊👍🎾
Good demo, thanks.

Very understandable explanation with high detail for the most important aspects. Really a showcase video. Continental maybe hard to master but eastern certainly benefitial in many ways, especially for older players like me. Coming from western as a youngster. The only thing i don't necessarily agree on is putting in about as much force as you receive. I think, slow balls you mostly have to accelerate. Very fast balls you might just block. And inbetween you have a choice.
@@hannesreinhardt1399 thank you so much for your comments. I really appreciate hearing back from anyone watching my videos. I wonder, though if I can explain about the pace of the Ball rule, it’s a concept so that my students don’t make any strong effort to hit the ball. It’s a concept that relates to keeping the ball in play and consistency but doesn’t necessarily mean you can’t strike the ball harder. There are a lot of players who are deliberately trying to muscle their shots so over my coaching career I’ve come up with the concept of the pace of the ball rule which I define as your intent when you’re striking the ball is the same pace or less. It simply is for consistency. Oddly just by making good contact with the ball you’ll probably drive it hard enough or even harder than you intended. But it’s when your focus is to solely drive the ball that we get in trouble and we make an error. I hope that clears that up. I love your comments and thank you for enjoying the video. Coach Adam
@@GameZTennis i completely agree on the concept of clean strike priority. But there has to be a will to dictate a shot. Maybe that developes through your system. Thanks for reply.
Good to see you back Adam
Always enjoy your videos Adam. Going to try this tomorrow!
One more question - Your video on slice has helped my serve, especially getting my hand more open below the ball. WHat about the kick and twist? Is your hand still open? I'm typically closed and I feel like I struggle to get lift and spin.
Hi James… a good visual is to think of it this way: your open hand stays the same but the angle you lean back changes the action on the ball. Standing straight upright for a slice, slightly leaning back and you get the twist and if you lean back as far a possible you get the kick. Each leaned position changed the angle oh ball contact. Hope that helped.
Also would the same be true for topspin forehand? Do you hit the outside bottom zone of the ball?
Funny you mention that… i experimented that with a friend of mine quite some time back, it was not the outside but from your visual field the inside side of the ball’s hemisphere and an open faced racquet. It could be done but it was very specific to the height of the ball at contact. I have a video the shows different points of contact “path” that relates to balls low or high. Let me find them and will send them to you
Here is a video to watch and see the last part …it may answer your question. th-cam.com/video/nvvm8gv6kkY/w-d-xo.htmlsi=CXWM37WpYU9P8uNA
I've really struggled to control spin on my serve. Do you offer zoom lessons?
Hi James, that would be a first for me. We could face time if you have an iphone but my schedule will be tied up for a while… glad to help and see what i can help you with. Not sure your location but if you are ever in norCal let me know and I will gladly get you one to one in a lesson.
I'll check out the video
Is the American twist, the kick setve and the topspin serves are 3 different serves?
The twist will break from left to right and the kick will jump up or out straight from the path of the ball hit. The height is crucial and can disguise a lack of pace vs the abundance of spin on the ball before it hits the ground. Hope you can find this helpful and improve your serve. 😊👍
@@GameZTennis yes Thank you very much. It's confusing as it seems many use the terms interchangeably.
Hahahahahaha
I think it is dimitrov
That is Joao Sousa. Kinda looks like Dimitrov.
Great pointers
Very calm very technical excellent
It almost looks like you're hitting a slice.
It may appear that way and it can disguise a slice too. The difference is in the prep with open face dropping into the swing which gives you top spin, or keeping the racquet high to get a slice. This method open the opportunity for both without changing your grip. Let me look up a past video of mine and share that with you too.
th-cam.com/video/o8208h1ymkk/w-d-xo.htmlsi=c42JChjZS2xlzAHq
The Eastern backhand grip removes the need to rotate your wrist to come perpendicular to the ball- it’s also a much more stable grip that prevents the racquet from rotating on off-center hits. Not sure that coaches would even teach a one-handed using that grip. Just an opinion- the key is to do what works best for you.
Eastern or Continental… watch this video and see if the wrist is cocked back, maybe my mistake. th-cam.com/video/bNeN2XevGLM/w-d-xo.htmlsi=55L0KSDe6YF6Nyst

Hello dear coach , Two questions ; 1) Are you using continental grip on this video 2 ) I am thinking your method of teaching is very similar to Stephan Edberg beautiful topspin backhand swing ? Thank you for this beautiful video !
Yes, for the backhand i am also using the continental grip. This keeps the face of the racquet open in the preparation phase. 😊👍

I've been trying to use the continental grip for over a year. Still feels very uncomfortable and tend to shank more balls.
It is definitely a grip that has to be learned. There is no one who comes out at the get go and uses a continental grip. One thing to get used to is the contact is late compared to the other grips and with that a swing path that is and can be more compact. It is not easy to pick up alone. Feel free to look me up if you are ever in California, Sacramento region and i would be glad to get you on the court and see how I can help. Coach Adam
@@GameZTennis Thanks for your response. The hardest part is building new muscle memory. I'm in the Midwest but will keep you in mind.
Anytime!! Last thought, keep the face slightly open in the backswing, no deliberate top spin for the continental grip and you should concentrate on a flat struck ball that could have some backspin often…but not a slice.
Is she progressing towards a continental grip?
Depending on each players comfort I try to move them towards a continental grip. Laura was using more of an eastern here. As players advance i want them at the continental grip though. You can see that here with Cody. th-cam.com/video/amnwJgm5PsE/w-d-xo.htmlsi=RJRvHim7RXhYAirx

Glad it helped!!! You already have the “Lefty” advantage… now it will be even stronger!!
Do you have a video on the serve? My best tennis shot pre-surgery was my serve. Is there maybe an adaptation that will go easier on my repair?
Hello Mary, until you have full recovery anything high and at full reach with your arm can be a problem. Avoid any movements that are painful. The serve is a progression over time and you will need to think placement over power. Low ball toss and a ball strike with your arm’s elbow not much higher or just at your shoulder height…keep everything low. You will want to strengthen your wrist and add a wrist “snap” into the ball too. This should be a fluid movement rather than anything forceful, you don’t need other injuries. If you are ever in Nor Cal feel free to look me up for a lesson. Coach Adam Courtsidenotes.com
Thank you!!! My pro doesn’t seem to realize that I had a MAJOR surgery on an irreparable tear. I do NOT want surgery again. I needed a modification. This is IT. Just a comment: I didn’t like all the info about your tear….I think just indicating that any tear of the rotator cuff or in the shoulder, may require an adaptation. And I believe this is IT. Thank you!
Your video on the Eastern grip is the easiest one to understand out of all the videos currently on TH-cam. I enjoy your style of instruction. It’s actually geared towards improvement for the average player and not focused on imitating the pros.
This is a useful tip. Movement is still the most important factor, but I find this helps to time the overhead and I hit very easy but get a lot more power...
this is really useful. I"ll need to look at how people switch in doubles to cover lobs. I tend to move to the side and then back up a bit till I see what kind of shot is hit. I fear if I move back first it could cause my partner to think I'm trying to cover the lob despite calling switch.
Glad you found it helpful. Lobs vs Overheads… you are responsible for any overhead’s but your partner is responsible for any lob over you. Rather than switching to the opposite side of the court near the net, switch sides with your partner deeper in the court (back of the court). It puts you initially in a strong position for defense in case his lob return is poor and your opponents are attacking. You also cover more of the middle of the court this way. Now after, if your partner covering the lob pushes your opponents back then you can move forward again… “following the ball” Hope that helps. Coach Adam
