An architect’s own inner-city cottage - designing affordable architecture with Architect George
มุมมอง 1.6Kปีที่แล้ว
House in Newtown by Architect George explores how a small footprint and floor area can create a high level of amenity, and a sustainable approach to existing housing stock in the city. The architect wanted a home that represented their own personality on a very tight budget, and didn't sacrifice the outdoors for more built space. The result is a beautiful home that is far greater than its modes...

A converted warehouse with a controversial history - The Hat Factory by Welsh + Major
มุมมอง 31K2 ปีที่แล้ว
From the architect - The Hat Factory, built on Gadigal Land, has survived fire, police invasion, and countless parties…..It’s been a hat factory, a printers, a squat and a ‘social-centre’. Now it enters a new phase of its life. The Hat Factory unpicks the romantic ideal of living in a warehouse - the 2 dwellings are permeable rather than hermetic - they are more like a pair of glass houses held...

A home ‘punctured’ by trees - I&L Residence by architect Andra Matin

You want net zero or you want fire proof Products!
Hi Simon. I am a Helicopter firefighting pilot for 30 years plus. First great house ...... But why put firewood under your Deck? That will light up and no chance for house. Store away from your lovely house. Cheers Dave
I spotted that issue also.
Hi, this was filmed with Simon during winter, and he mentioned that the firewood isn’t stored under the home over summer. You can find out more on his website
Hey Tommy, do you know Jun's Instagram? I would like to follow his work and others similar to him. Thank you.
Amazing designs. 👏 good team work
push it down to "afordable" and this project will fly
that looks really nice, yet uncomfortable due to the shapes sticking out into the seat
There are side tables
Beautiful! What type of wood do you use?
I’m next. Architect/custom precast furniture.
this is epic project! thank you for sharing!! i am so inspired!!
love it
Impressive!
LOVE IT!
I may be stating the obvious, but ..... Your home is cladded in wood, you have masses of wooden furniture, your home has many wooden features and the Eucalyptus trees are too near your home. Apart from that, your home is beautiful, its just not fireproof. Just as an idea, Californians plant Cacti near their homes. They reckon it helps to stop the spread of bushfire near them.
You can read more on the architect’s website, but the cladding and decking is fibre cement board. Just looks like timber
Hi Dana the cladding is fibre cement, not wood, fire wood for the indoor fire is stored away from the house in summer. The clearing around the home was designed by a bushfire consultant so we have faith it will survive a major bushfire
Storing firewood under a timber deck clearly isn’t wise in a bushfire prone environment.
Filmed in winter
Why not float it off the ground instead of on slab? Farnsworth house was the inspiration for the client I think they said.
30 years a squat ⁉️ were there utilities and who paid for such amenities?
illegal bypass
Just binged all your content. You're making magic <3
Beautiful home and video, Thank you for sharing! Also kudos to the video editor of this video some really creative and cool stuff!
I love it when I'm overloaded with details from "minimalist" design. Every detail was first rate and nicely curated. The raw travertine and the Poliedri lights pair so well.
Can i come there😂
I grew up with a brick glass shower enclosure. Loved it then and love it now! Simply brilliant work that is so simple and yet so curated. Thank you for sharing so we can all enjoy!
Really love your work team!
I imagine snakes and scorpions, spiders and kangaroos coming into his house all the time! 😂
No worries about them mate, they know where they belong
I’d rather be in Australia with our beautiful climate and all the bugs and there are definitely lots than anywhere else
Hi. Seen this featured on Never Too Small. Absolutely love it! Exactly! Here in the UK far too many new builds and no developer or architects [well relatively few!] prepared to re-develop 'lost' spaces as in above shops etc in the city centres. Or indeed use existng housing stock..old terraces etc. This is a stunnig, simply ''proper'' home where ever sq cm is used. I have a converted space above a shop on a market town High Street and like you tend to let the worlld in... no curtains etc. And why not? Again thank you for sharing. A perfect little place to live.
Please forgive me. I am not trying to be rude. Its a beautiful work. I suspect it cost a 5 to 10 thousand a square meter yes? So how is this limiting carbon footprint in any way? This is the problem. A lot of flowery talk of sustainability yet their footprints are twice the average house or more. Beautifully detailed yes. Sustainable? Not a chance .
For an Australian home, this is a small footprint. In regards to all the details of the building’s carbon footprint, you’d have to ask the architect directly. From our limited understanding as video makers, sustainability is not one simple step, and when it is advertised as such, it’s not necessarily honest. The architect himself refers to sustainability as 'a bit of a dirty word'. The impact of a building adds up through multiple factors e.g. where were the materials sourced from and what is their embodied carbon after creation, transport and installation. How much energy and resources does it take to run. And how many years can it withstand the pressures of nature, like withstanding a bushfire in this case.
Architects own house means you are looking at his masterpiece.
Очень достойный проект спасибо
Beautiful home!!!
Nice! May I inquire about the build cost...?
The pool under the house is cool too.
Every home of any type should have pocket door style room screen/partitions. It makes so much sense. We live in a popular open floor plan and the downfall is if I want to get away, be alone, I have the choice of bedroom or bathroom. No basement as we live on a river with high water table.
You know that he loves what he does because of that great smile that never leaves his face. I love his workshop with all of that natural light washing over it.
Interiors of wood, the best connection to nature without going outside. Good for the soul. No drywall and manufactured granite countertops everywhere. Wood being our best Earthly element.
can you tell me what the name of the stove is? thank you
I had some fun with my Sherlock hat on - it is discontinued model - MORSØ 7642
@@tim_1_ thanks that's great!
Love everything about this.
Very nice work.
Questionable music choice but great design
Very cool.
Lovely💫Combination of natural materials and views.
I like this one, good material selection. Nice screens and great interior feeling.
discussing architecture and urban amenity isnt a "cop out" for good design. Yes, you can have a simple and smaller apartment because you have those amenities, in the suburbs where there isnt that amenity, you need to have the big house and the double garage and the nice car to travel, because you live in the middle of nowhere and all the things you want to do are miles away. This isnt the fault of the homes in those areas, its the fault of not allowing more density in our cities. A very well designed apartment, but unfortunately, we dont see the same quality of design in the burbs, as those other factors take over instead.
What an experience this home has been through. A very special place and so incredibly well appointed. To everyone involved in the making of this video... what an exceptional opportunity you've given the viewers.
Fantastic!
Brad's one of my favorite designers on Never Too Small!
Whoa 🤩 Beautiful................ UK
IT's beautiful now wow
So Eastern design full of enlightment
Love this!
This works quite well
amazing location, would like to see more of this, how do you achieve you 7/10 fire rating. best build i've seen in a long time. why don't city builds look like this also!!!
There’s a link in the description to the Architect’s website. It has a more thorough write up on the project
