Commander Rud served as the last
A-4 Skyhawk Flight Leader of the Blue Angels in 1986, and then led the team’s transition to the F/A-18 Hornet, where he served an additional two years as Boss.
Following his first combat deployment, Rud served as the Junior CAG LSO for the first cruise of the F-14A Tomcat and the first West Coast Cruise of the S-3A Viking . He would qualify to fly the F-14 prior to leaving for the cruise in order to do the job more effectively.

    He was my recruiter NRD San Antonio 1978. Had many memorable experiences riding in the back seat of a T-34 with him. My introduction to Naval Aviation.

    I saw you and your team fly many shows including after the transition to F/A18s. I'm proud you commanded a carrier and also proud of Donnie Cochran being brought back to command the Blues.

    Good to see he's keeping busy and still around. He was an awesome Captain. He took command of the USS Constellation (CV-64) from a bad captain, while I was crewmember onboard. Best CO I ever worked for.

    Awesome! LSOs are true heroes when it's dark out, during thunderstorms, pitching deck and 1/4 mile visibility. Fly Navy!
