    Bridges to Indiana is a near perfect fit. Pacers have too much depth to get minutes for everyone and its difficult to straddle the philosophies of win now while developing young talent. The idea that they could keep the playoff rotation in tact and add Bridges for Mathurin, Walker, and picks is intriguing as they could still have the best bench in the league and add the player they need to have a legitimate chance to dethrone Boston.

    • @michaelahurt
      @michaelahurt วันที่ผ่านมา

      But why would Brooklyn do that? They don't own their own picks so there's no point to being bad. If you trade for picks/young players you need a high likelihood of that player being a star. And Brooklyn knows Bridges is perfect next to a star. That's why they want to get one, not trade him.

    Last point, regarding the “window” of this team. Horford/Jrue transition planning is key. I’d expect the team will extend Al with a pay bump requisite to flipping him (along with/picks) for a mid level replacement. Jrue’s 3rd & 4th year also represent a Derrick White level acquisition opportunity in terms of 2026 salary projection. The team needs to nail their picks, but from a trade standpoint, as a second apron team, using contracts & picks to flip older for younger is how they’ll play this. KP, JT, JB, & White being sub-35 for the next 6 years creates that optionality

  • @1979eweiss
    @1979eweiss วันที่ผ่านมา

    I think the key takeaway regarding trades is this - you don’t NEED to win trades from a standalone value standpoint. You need to nail the fit and its compounding value on your team’s bottom line improvement & success.

    Sam - been waiting for this snippet for a minute! Huge Pacers fan, lots of open questions about the team that I don't will be solved until the season starts. I think Jalen Smith is gone (someone will take a flier on him as a stretch 5). Toppin I'm somewhat torn about - I think he's worth in the 7-10M range annually and he's very solid as a backup 4. As it stands currently, the Pacers don't have a lot of tradeable salaries aside from Nesmith. There may be some value in turning Toppin into a tradeable salary down the line (but anything over 10M is an overpay). Assuming we keep Toppin though, we still have an 11-man rotation and if that's the case then either Sheppard or Walker will be the odd man out. Rick Carlisle and the FO have been open about seeing Jarace as a 3 moving forward and I think that will be the best case for his development because I don't think he'll get the minutes he needs playing behind Siakam. Unfortunately it's a really bad move if we can't get him or Mathurin (both are the highest draft picks the Pacers have had in 30+ years) into the starting lineup. A consolidation trade seems inevitable. Lots of Pacers fans seem high on Mikal Bridges but the Nets haven't seemed willing to play ball at this point. If all it took was Mathurin+Walker to do it I'd be all for it, but the salaries don't match and I imagine the Nets would want pick capital or even Nembhard (who's making so little money on his rookie deal that it presents a problem during trades). Who knows what will happen - I expect it to be a rather quiet offseason other than inking Siakam to a longer-term deal. The more interesting moves will probably wait until the trade deadline.

    I feel like Cleveland could just go all in if they're willing to trade Garland and Mobley. Something like Avdija + Kuzma + Kispert for Garland and Bridges + Johnson + Thomas + Sharpe for Mobley, LeVert, Niang and Jerome as basic frameworks of a deal That probably makes Cleveland an inner circle contender depending on your feelings about Mitchell and gives you the deepest and best wing rotation in the NBA

    Dalton Knecht, a top five choice?

  • @michaelahurt
    @michaelahurt 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

    I just have a hard time with Knecht. I don't see much that fundamentally differentiates him from Wally Szczerbiak, Doug McDermott or Adam Morrison -- who were all better college players -- in terms of playmaking, ball handling and shot creation, and he's not a super elite shooter like McDermott or Kyle Korver or Allan Houston or Luke Kennard. Maybe he's another Dale Ellis. Probably he's Tim Hardaway Jr or more like Max Strus (but without the ability to guard ball) The big thing is I just don't think he's big enough to be a 3/4 and it's really hard to play a defensive liability or even weaker defender at 2/3 if they aren't a plus offensive player. And I think it's going to be at least 2-3 years before he's able to get his body -- improving core strength and lateral quickness -- and mind -- understanding and improving angles and technique and how to funnel players into help -- to a place where he can really hold up in isolation. Which defeats the point of drafting an older prospect

    • @kevinb1277
      @kevinb1277 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      You have extreme racial bias. Look at all the comps you made. Dalton is exceptionally more athletic than Doug McDermott you just lumped them together because they're white and you're racist and it's hurting your ability to amateur scout.

    • @arthursese6068
      @arthursese6068 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      If he becomes Wally Szcerbiak that would be awesome. I hope my Pistons take him. Wally would’ve been an even better allstar in today’s NBA.

    • @michaelahurt
      @michaelahurt 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@arthursese6068 The problem is he basically _HAS_ to be Wally to justify the pick and see real minutes on a good team. And he's probably not. I'm like the complete opposite as a Pistons fan. I wouldn't want Wally on this team either because he can't play PF and we don't have enough players to protect him on defense. We were _sooooo_ much better with Fontecchio instead of Bogdanovic. I'd rather just pay Gary Trent Jr $60m/4 who is already a super disruptive help defender and only 2 years older than Knecht and draft someone who can actually be the kind of big wing that is super valuable on every team Picking anyone under 6'8" -- so not one of Buzelis, Risacher or Salaun -- is a wasted pick imo because no one in this draft is a better prospect than Ivey or Ausar. So you need to take someone who can theoretically play with them not behind them. And I'd rather bet on Matas becoming a reliable shooter, especially with Fred Vinson, than Knecht reforming his body and figuring it out on defense just so he can be a neutral defender who still can't play PF and still isn't a good playmaker.

    • @arthursese6068
      @arthursese6068 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@michaelahurt Knect can play the three IMO. Simone and Ausar can play the four. When we play bigger fours Stewart can start. Not keen on Matas, don’t like his shooting. We already have enough players that can’t shoot, not looking to add another.

    • @michaelahurt
      @michaelahurt 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@arthursese6068 We also already have enough players who can't defend and don't need to add another. Ausar can't play four. For one thing he's your primary on ball defender so if he's your "four" and Knecht the "three", Knecht is actually guarding the other team's biggest forward so he's playing PF But the other thing is the further you slide Ausar down the lineup his rebounding and rim protection loses relative value which means his impact takes a nosedive. His best position is really SG but Jaden is athletic enough himself that you don't lose too much Stewart is not a starter. He should start against Milwaukee, Minnesota and LA. That's it. I think Buzelis will probably be as good a shooter as Knecht in 5 years. He reminds me a lot of Kawhi and Jalen Williams where the three point percentage is low but he has a soft touch, good form (a compact stroke with a high release and minimal movement) and can make difficult mid range shots. Like those guys, as he adds strength and consistency the range will extend. Basically every issue in his game is related to strength and getting more reps so unless he doesn't get stronger -- and if you look at his body he already has muscle definition in his chest, arms and torso which is a good indication he isn't an ectomorph and is just young -- it's pretty hard for him to not be a good starter. Like a better Deni Avdija or Lamar Odom with a jumpshot.
