    Spoiler alert: absolute 3D modelling noob over here, pls have mercy... I'm really just tryna understand the process from the first basic 3D models to the fully textured and painted piece - I'm mind-blown on how difficult the process is (and how absolutely stunning the results are :o). If I understand it correctly, you first made a basic (kinda low-poly?) mesh of everything and then remesh it to create like a billion more vertices so u can better sculpt in the details. But what happens after that? In the video, I saw u using the "decimate" modifier, which, again, if i understand it correctly, deletes vertices and makes it an easier mesh so u can UV unwrap better. But when (and how) does the high poly mesh come back? How does the texture mapping or painting then work? Do you use the high-poly or low-poly mesh in the very end (cos like aren't like high-poly meshes gna break the PC if you have too many of them)? Also, I've seen some people not sculpt in the details, but "fake" them by painting them with different maps like bumps and roughness. Isn't this process easier? Just genuinely interested in the 3D modelling process, I really admire artists like you!

    • @agustin_honnun
      @agustin_honnun 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hello, you understood good, just the high poly is used, after sculpting, only in substance painter or any other baking software, you can search more about PBR baking in there. You need to make the high poly or detailed model then make a copy and make it low poly, keeping the name of each piece similar in both versions but change the suffix to something like _high and _low for low one, so the baking software can understand where to apply the high poly details into the lowpoly piece. But yeah, in the end you use only the low one because the high is only used to project the details over the low

    • @agustin_honnun
      @agustin_honnun 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      About the other process painting the in maps, yes usually both are used in the same workflow, it will always depends on the details you want to achieve, if you cannot manually sculpt very perfect and sharp details, but sculpt like broken parts. Then in substance you can add a texture or something over there and use height map to simulate de details without needed sculpture there. There are many methods you need to find the easier for you

    Beautiful! I see you have each rock as separate objects while you work, how do you seemlessly swap sculpting between each rock without affecting the surrounding rocks? The footage is so quick, I don't see you going into object mode to select a different rock to then going back to sculpt mode. Is there a hotkey for that?

    • @agustin_honnun
      @agustin_honnun 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hello, you need to tweak your crease brush, play with Falloff options, usually I use Sharp, Falloff menu is on top right. Also you may try using pen pressure, activate it right beside brush scale bar if you're using a tablet. Also you may try changing brush normal. But the most Important is the Falloff, brush shape changes a lot docs.blender.org/manual/en/latest/sculpt_paint/brush/falloff.html

    • @agustin_honnun
      @agustin_honnun 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey, hello 👋. It is hard to say, I think you need to focus in some specific area but at the same time learn a bit of everything, I have been learning 3d from 2018 as a hobby but I'm not an expert yet, even in the models for the studio I work for, every day is an improvement, it is just a matter of keep modeling and modeling and again and again and every model gets better than previous one. Try to get the most references as possible, use PureRef software, and just practice, I just started using it recently and it is a game changer, because imagine things shapes is hard if you don't have a base or a sketch, not impossible but limiting. About texturing, I do not bake nor texturize on blender, I use substance painter for it. What I do is first make the base Model in blender, low poly one, then when finished convert this same low poly into the high poly and move it to a folder, then rename everything with _high, every single piece. Then duplicate them and move to a folder called low and suffix _low, but make sure every pieces are corresponding each other with the high poly meshes, like swordhandle_low swordhandle_high, diamond_high diamond_low, so substance painter can figure out where to project details from high to low pieces. Then, just sculpt the high and add details. Separate every piece from the high poly mesh with different vertex colors. That will work to make a color ID map to say to substance where to paint without doing manually, works as a mask for layers, color selection. and export the low and high to substance. Now, there is another different world that you can explore and take some courses

    This is satisfying to follow, tried it myself, learned to use bisect tool which seems really versatile, but for some reason when I tried to get into sculpting and I remeshed the rock didn't act as nicely as it did for you in the video, wonder if I missed some step, applied scales too if it makes difference and tried to watch the steps in slow mo but it seems you didn't do any tricks before starting sculpting and remeshing. Also for game production purposes it's probably smart to remove the bot part of the meshes because it will never be seen in the game for optimization?

    • @agustin_honnun
      @agustin_honnun 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hello. Make sure you close entirely any mesh you want to remesh, like if you remove bottom faces and then Ramesh, blender remesher will create holes and bad mesh, I dont know if that's your problem but usually it happens. And yes, it is better to remove bottom faces for games, just I left it like that because as I dont have a ground, people can see it under in sketchfab :D

      @@agustin_honnun If you don't mind me asking, as a 3d modeling student i'm curious as to how many tris is a standard amount for game assets into a engine like Unity. I know it depends on how "In focus" the asset is to the gameplay, but currently i'm doing low-poly at less then 1k per asset, Mid-poly at less than 5k and High-poly at less then 8k.

    • @agustin_honnun
      @agustin_honnun ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Surpenda Hello, yea of course it will depend. Also will depend of the game target device, if PC, Mobile, etc the range you are doing is fine, but to be honest nowadays the polys can be higher with the new devices people have, you need to focus more, in my experience in optimize texturing like, packing all you can in only one material (as I did with the sword) instead of having like, 1 material per object. Use trim sheets, and other texturing optimization methods. About the tris also will depend of the kind of model like, if it is a character, or a vehicle where the player will be most part of the time, closest objects to camera, etc.

    Hello.. I´m confused.. at 2:40 the tree had 1mil points but then you decreased from 1mil to around 600k. Why? Also you increased from 18k to 1 mil using the subd and then decreased from 1mil to 600k using remesh right? but ye I just dont understand why..

    • @agustin_honnun
      @agustin_honnun ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello. Usually for this kind of models I need to use remesh instead of subdivision surface to sculpt, because you can create new mesh during the sculpture (like roots in this case) and apply a remesh to add more geometry to sculpt in the new roots created, something you can't do with subdivision surface modifier. So that's why triangles are varying a lot. In that exact minute, I started with a low poly tree, then used the subdivision surface to smooth it, but subd modifier creates a lot of geometry that usually isn't good for sculpture because some quads are big and others are too small, so, in this case if you don't have a great pc like in my case for that time, sculpting with millions of triangles may cause a lot of lag and subd surface will create a lot of unnecessary and non proportional each other quads, so then the remesher decrease it to 600k because made all quads similar in size each other and easier to sculpt. Hope it makes sense xD

      @torytar5435 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@agustin_honnun ye i understand.. but my problem is honestly.. that im sculpting a wheel of a wagon, and trying to represent/sculpt it as wood.. and i feel like the minimum verts that i can do it with is around 1 mil... because if its like 500k, whenever i make a simple cut i see quads instead of a smooth cut... and.. the wagon is big.. and if only the wheels willl have 4 mil polygons.. imagine the whole thing...

    • @torytar5435
      @torytar5435 ปีที่แล้ว

      Now.. im kinda new to sculpt thats why im kinda confused.. and that might be normal, to have alot of geometry in a object and.. even more in other objects because the wagon is kinda big.. and in the end boom.. like 10mil or 15 all together..

    • @agustin_honnun
      @agustin_honnun ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes is normal to have that amount of triangles in your scene depending if your pc can handle it, I usually sculpt scene with 120 millions triangles with no sculpting lag issues (only it takes like 5-10 seconds to save the file) but yes to have a great density in the sculpture you should have that amount of tris. Other think you can try is Dyntopo, this helps you to add more density/triangles only in the space you are sculpting, increasing the triangles just in that zone, leaving the rest who needs less resolution optimized. Now it will depend of the focus of your model, if you want it for a render you maybe don't need to care about the tris, but if it is for a game or animation you should bake the high poly details into a low poly mesh, reducing considerably the amount of vertex
