    To say a study done on the S&P500, ensuring you will make money in the long term, is a little on the disingenuous side. If the study was done on the japanese market over the same time, it wouldn't conclude the same. Perhaps useful to remind viewers this market is a little special.

    • @upthegainsmoney
      @upthegainsmoney 6 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Whilst I appreciate where you're coming from - that's what the study was done on so pretty difficult to say otherwise. Throughout the video we mention risk on 5 or 6 occasions so in no way are we being disingenuous. Thanks for watching.

    Sammie loving the content! I’ve been reading up on investing for the past few months and it has really helped me get started and build confidence so is much appreciated. A question for you though - should I look at reducing my pension contributions and use the additional Income in my S&S ISA? Not sure what works out more tax efficient? Would be good to know ? You may have already done a video or post so feel free to point me to it!

    • @upthegainsmoney
      @upthegainsmoney 6 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hey thanks for the support! When you reduce your pension contributions that means you're lowering your tax relief and potential employer contributions (if in a workplace pension). I would personally maximise your pension as much a possible but also add to a Stocks and Shares ISA alongside this. That way you have access to some funds in the here and now but also maximise tax relief on pre-tax income.

    Impossible in Germany, here you even gotta pay taxes on gains you haven't even made using a completely made up gain percentage that's rolled by our federal bank every year. Meanwhile if you're employeed you're forced to pay a lot of money into the unsustainable public pension fund that'll pay you back like 10% of what you put in over your entire life.

    Total n00b question, but why do you lose tax free status to take the funds out of the old provider and depositing with the new one, rather than transferring directly between providers? Surely the gains when you sell in the old are tax free, then there wouldn’t be any tax associated with buying investments in the new ISA? I can see that you would maybe lose (or “double spend”) your tax-free allowance. Is that what you mean? But if you’re nowhere near your annual limit, that shouldn’t be a factor, right?

    Great Intro video, but most people of your age are already investing $thousands anyway. They will have a Defined Contribution Pension. They should take a careful look at what their pension scheme is invested in as they may be able to change it to a MUCH better performing (higher equity) scheme. Many pension schemes give you a default investment in poor UK stocks and low gain bonds but most investors agree that for younger people (20-50), investing in 80% to 100% equity is much better. Meanwhile your default pension scheme is paying for all those pension company employee Porsches!

    • @upthegainsmoney
      @upthegainsmoney 27 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thanks for the insight - I started late and so have only been investing for 8 or so years. With all due respect most people age don’t have this kind of money invested at all hence why channels like mine and others exist.

    • @steve6375
      @steve6375 27 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @upthegainsmoney DC pensions contribute at least 8pc of salary. So most people will have thousands of pounds invested already even after 1 year, let alone 10 years or more. So I don't understand your reply?

    • @nishnosh
      @nishnosh 27 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Not sure where you have got at least 8% from. Most Uk DC schemes are not great at all. Some of my friends is 3% er and 3% ee. But if you take the average salary of £36k, assuming 5% er and say 5% ee, that’s 3.6k per year which is likely not enough for most people in retirement. I agree with you on choosing a low cost index le the S&P. Fees are less, growth is better…absolute no brainer (for people under 50). Shame not enough people know about this and some employer pension structures are too rigid to offer a level of choice. Fact is not enough people contribute enough (due to low salaries) AND their money is not in the optimal investment for them…real shame.

      @@nishnoshYep. A lot of people are already investing but they don't realise it. I was going on typ. workplace pension of 5pc employee and 3pc employer but whatever the pc, it's quite a tidy sum after just a few years.

      I know my work based pension was set up for a generic, low risk fund. Have since switched that to the same global index I have for my ISA, but it’s crazy how many people have no idea what their pension is invested in. In fact, most people I speak to didn’t even know their pension was invested in anything and just thought it worked like a savings account. I was late to the game with learning about personal finances at 30, but have opted for the highest contribution towards my pension, so 8% from me and 8.5% from my employer. Pretty shocking that no one really teaches you this stuff unless your parents knew about it or you go seeking it on TH-cam.

    That’s the figure I earn but there is problem, I am not working 40h/week… I have four job, indeed I am still not understanding what he intends for salary,if it is all income taxable you can earn in a year, or just the main salary; maybe 35k mon to Fri that’s it job, because I might be an “handyman” and have four job and at the end of the year I can reach this figure (I could work bank holiday) although my main salary is 30k/year

    Great video. If you do feel strongly about a stock, say tsla or pltr, is it recommended to go 40 per cent in and leave the rest in an etf? Tsla is insane atm. Wish i had more in it because it would allow me to hit six figures and then withdraw initial investment and put into voo

    Ummmm? After all that talking there’s no conclusion. And no mention of the final outcome: After 30 years you’ll OWN a home

    • @Joshkt87
      @Joshkt87 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeh a lot of fluff and no concrete conclusion. But you basically have to do the numbers and work it out for yourself - it depends. Yes you will own a home after 30 years but on the reverse you will have a large investment portfolio. At 30 years you could simply buy in cash for full. Obviously you need bullet proof discipline, investing isn't forced like a mortgage which will mean you lose your home if you fail to paym

      That’s because there’s no concrete conclusion based on the factors outlined in this video. Every house and location will differ hugely. The message of the video is do your numbers and don’t forget them all.

      The conclusion is that in some niche, outlier cicumstances it is not worth buying a house but renting instead.
