Beautiful. Thank you. Reminds me of when I worked there throughout the 00's. If I close my eyes while listening to this, I'm back there again.
So glad you enjoyed it. It's great bringing back those memories!
A noisy lump of metal, the VC10 😂😂
Fed Ex's big Douglas touching down at 0:10 ❤
❤
Beautiful footage of one the best liveries ever to adorn the B747. Amazingly smooth landing of the 747-400 👍
Where can I get the full 60 mins of the miami video?
If you go to avionvideo.com/video/big-props-miami/ and click on the Vimeo logo, you'll be able to buy or rent the full 70 minute video.
What camera is this the quality is very good for the early 2000s!?😅
It was a Sony DSR300. Only standard definition but aprofessional camera with a good lens.
Bac 1-11 ❤❤
Not many 1-11 flights from Gatwick in 2000. Back in the 60's there were so many. This video has a couple more th-cam.com/video/cOd_FUUII7k/w-d-xo.html
How about London Heathrow airport (LHR) in 2000😍✈️
Can't do LHR 2000 but can do 2005. At the end of the Gatwick clip there's a link to the LHR 2005 video.
...I LOVED SEEING THAT 727...❤
There are two more on the East Midlands video th-cam.com/video/ulBnLWV0W0Y/w-d-xo.html
The DC3 in Colombia 🇨🇴 got nickname The Marimbero it was the best in cargo for the weed back in the 70s
...BACK WHEN JETLINERS WERE JETLINERS...❤ 😎👍
00:30 Needs more cockpit windows!
The video brings back memories of the old days
I would go with dad, and be there all day spotting Dan Air, Spantax BEA,British United .just name a few, a few years later, I became a BOAC Engineering apprentice ..
Great to see the comet it was the first plane i flew on in 1969.
Lucky to survive.
@@elaineblackhurst1509 it was the later version with the round windows the earlier ones with the square ones were the accident prone.
Flew on A Comet 4B Sept 1973 . Galsgow-Barcelona-Glasgow. Package Holiday with My Parents, I was 14, lol. I always remember The Amazing noise of those Engines, What A Thrill, lol.
My wife bought me a flight in the Dakota from Norwich Airport for my birthday few years ago. Brilliant.
It was great fun filming just behind the cockpit, on a training flight from Coventry to East Midlands and back.
Ive got this dvd, its fantastic. Well worth another watch! I wonder what became of this 707?
Unfortunately, it wasn't possible to save the aircraft after its arrival at Manston and it was eventually broken up, with the tail unit going to support the KC135 program. When you think of the money that Lufthansa must have spent on trying to restore a Starliner, an aircraft that played a minor role in their fleet, the 707 would have made a much more suitable project.
@@classicairlineractionfromavion thats such a shame, it all looked rosy in the days you must have been filming this video, only for it to be in vain. Id have loved to have flown on the seven O
@@craigdoran6811 It was great fun. Quite unlike a modern airliner.
@@classicairlineractionfromavion i bet, the engines spooling up sound so cool. Only older jet airliners i got to fly in were 1-11s and 737 200s
Hmmmm nobody mentioning the taxiing plane with gorgo(?) hold door open and boarding ladder dragging on runway @1:08 😮🧐🤔
It does look odd, I agree. But it was standard practice, as all cargo aircraft had to go first to the Miami Customs' ramp and then move off to their actual arrival point. The full video has several examples of this. It does look as though the ladder is dragging on the ground but actually it's just clearing it. My recollection of flying on a DC6 is that the Douglas-supplied folding ladder was a bit of a faff to stow, so I guess this arragement was just easier.
@@classicairlineractionfromavionOkies different times different values but looks damned unsettling in today's times 😎
Twice times DC10 from Spantax will be stopover refuelling at VCP airport on the late's 1982...from Spain & Argentina....unforgetable times the oldested VCP👏👏👏👏👏👏🛫🛬
I remember seeing the spantax convair cv-990's at Gatwick in the 1980s
Nice to see the Donaldson Boeing 707 at the end.
Round sound, gotta love it.
Fantastic. Lived in Horley and watched the old Gatwick Airport and Gatwick Racecourse merge into the new Gatwick Airport. Recognised all of the aircraft in the video. I even flew in a Dan Air DC3 to Rotterdam. Very noisy!! Pity it wasn't longer.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Nice old birds!
Yes they are!
Stunningly crisp looking footage for 90s tape. I know it's AI upscaled (occasional erroneous artifacts like the end) but it must have been originally shot on broadcast quality Sony Betacam or something similar. It could pass for tripod mounted prosumer digital HD camcorders of the late 2000s/early 2010s, much less the 90s. Very impressive.
Many thanks for your comments, much appreciated. The footage was shot on a Sony DSR 200p DVCAM camera, tripod mounted. It was shot at 50i and I've used Staxrip to convert to 50p, then Topaz AI, as Staxrip does the conversion better, in my view. Iris2 was the best model they had when I started upscaling, but for videos I've upscaled more recently than Anchorage, I use their Rhea model, creating ProRes422HQ. The conversion comes out at 1920x1440 and so I have repositioned any shots where the original 4:3 framing was tight. I've also edited out any elements where the lateral movement would be too fast when the 50p footage is shown at 60Hz. It takes me about ten days work to create an HD version, but it sounds as though it's all been worthwhile! I'm entirely self-taught, so I'd appeciate any comments you may have on how I'm doing this.
Beautiful !!!
You're not wrong!
Aww the Connie!
One of my favourites too!
...GOTA LOVE THE CLASSICS ..❤
...NOTHING TO SEE HERE BUT AWSOMENESS...! 💯👍
0:18 What is the model of this aircraft?
Martin 4-0-4
It's a Martin 404, an upgraded version of the Martin 202 which was not a very successful design. Outperformed by the Convair 240 - 400 series, it did not sell well.
Some great footage. Flew around the Aleutian Islands a lot on Reeve Aleutian Airways Lockheed Electras back in the 80s 90s. Love that plane.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Nice flick of Gatwick.
So where is this 84 minutes then>
If you click on the link avionvideo.com/video/manchester-2nd-runway/ you will be taken to the correct page of the Avion Video website where you can rent or buy the 84 minute programme.
Obviously it's not free......
That's what jet engines are supposed to sound like.
Absolutely!
Classic old style aeroplanes...something magical about them, particularly the Constellation ,aka Connie. Thanks for the upload 😁👍
Props beat the air into submission. Did it on my C130 for 26 years!
I saw this dvd in my shed just yesterday
How the mighty have fallen!
great to see such a prehistoric plane flying again, i was very upset when they were retired cause they just look so cool!
Agreed. You can still see the 707 in the front end of a 737 but it's just not the same. Have you had a look at Classic Jetliners at Work which has several 707s still hard at it in the 1980s. Here's the link th-cam.com/video/iY409SsWy_A/w-d-xo.html
Loved that Connie with the ratty nose cone..
It's not alone! There are some others badly in need of a re-spray, on the video.
wonderful!
Glad you've enjoyed it.There's another 68 minutes on the video!
An amazing time with a wonderful mis of turbine and piston propliners.
Glad you've enjoyed it.There's another 68 minutes on the video!
Did the Eingineers build in the Style. Class and Beauty from the onset or as they went along?
I think Douglas deigns were consistently good, but nothing beats a Super Connie!
@classicairlineractionfromavion It's all in How the Move on the Ground and in the Air. First I have heard of this Connie Character?
@@JeffreyWilliams-dr7qe You're right of course. I should indeed have referred to the Lockheed L1049 Super Constellation!
@classicairlineractionfromavion You Did. What Script Today?
Most of these were cargo carriers that flew from Miami to Central & South America and the Caribbean up into the 1980s and a few later than that. A number were lost in fatal crashes as the maintenance was often spotty.
Indeed they were. The video features several aircraft that later crashed plus an account of a three engined takeoff after an argument between the captain and the flight engineer!
@@classicairlineractionfromavion I read once the Andes mountains in South America is littered with wreckage of those old planes. There's just nowhere to land in that area if it goes down. Sad end to such beautiful old planes.
0:51 what are this plane
It is a BAC 111. Built in the UK in the 1960s.
Amazing what the HD upgrade has done to this footage - great job!
So pleased you've enjoyed it. The AI software does an amazing job. There are seven times as many pixels as in the original video.
I remember flying on a Tunis Air Boeing 727 from Heathrow to Tunisia in December 1975, a misty late Sunday morning, and a procession of PanAm 707’s taxing around, viewed from the window of the 727, fantastic experience as I was on a school trip and only 15 years old at the time, also on returning I noticed a huge KLM DC8 howling away near the Queen’s Buildings, I believe the KLM DC8 was a regular visitor at the time. It was very impressive
This is an awsome video. Especially the Boeing 707 push-back. Great upload.
Glad you enjoyed it
Again wet spots in my civies, all those props regular or turbo..... ME LIKE SO MUCH......
I'm 70, & I've flown in *Connie RT from Idlewild to Miami, from JFK to Stapleton - Denver RT in a *DC6b, from Denver to Colorado Springs RT on Frontier *DC-3 LGA to DCA RTs in Convair 440 & 660, I miss *those beauties especially.
