This was such a brilliant looking game for the time... it's one of the few early games that stand out in my mind for how visually unique it looked, and how well they handled conversations and interactions in such an animated way! The labyrinth exploration always reminded me of the original phantasy star, another great game with unmatched scale and that incredible first person dungeon crawling, way ahead of it's time as well... thanks for such a thorough retrospective for such a forgotten gem!!

I am one of the lucky ones and got all 4 of them. Costed Me a pretty penny though.

On fairy tale 2, when the title card comes in, there's a dramatic slowdown on the systems which made laugh hard because it was paired, well, with this dramatic music.

Now I understand what I didn't back then. I was way too young to understand English properly, let alone you can't flee when failed once. Wow. It's really tough.

The music in this game is great. Love the art as well.

I really like the art style on this one, the cell shaded aspects give it a really cool comic book styling and reminds me of XIII (the original, not the pretty average remake)

Tried it and while it did look nice, it just didn't click with me. I think the UI felt a bit clunky (for a lack of a better word) to me, even though it was very atmospheric. Same with the gameplay, it just felt an odd bit too sluggish. Can't really put my finger on it. I feel like I expected combat itself to be a bit more fast paced and the tower defense aspect to be more steamlined I guess? Well, and the presentation/story was a very mixed bag. All in all I'm happy that 'experimental' double A games like this exist, even though it wasn't for me.

I loke the style of this game. I want to try it, perhaps on a sale I will buy it

the vanilla version of Sword and Fairy 1 was extraordinary, also Xuan-Yuan Sword 3 series were also good, but all there games seems out of date nowadays. Hopefully the developers will remake it someday in the future 🥲

I love it. Took me almost two years to finished; from 1988 to 1990. I finished it one more time in 2008 and still love it. It is a hard game, but always amazing to me 😊

Thank you for posting the review! Indeed, it was a one man team. I did use some excellent music and sound assets, though. It's awesome that you got to the end. Goth is my favorite class. I think so far everyone who got a win used the Goth. I should probably make more clear that there are 4 endings, though. I should put that into a patch.

originally played this on my dads gamesharked ps1 (or 2??) and loved it, there is a 3ds version under another name but i really wish it kept going as its quite unique and would benefit from a bigger budget greatly

I think I'm going to play the demo now. This video is just what I needed. I'm on Trails in the Sky 3rd and really loving it. I'm hyped to get into the next arc but far from Tales of Cold Steel. So I'm hyped to play this more modern Trails game.

This is just another PC port of pay to win mobile game, game play is exactly like LifeAfter: Nightfalls or Undawn, so don't expect much

Just tried the demo as well, was not impressed at all.

The game looks pretty cool. I like the art style, and strategy games are always fun and challenging. I hope it makes its way to the ps5 or switch.
