Honestly, while I understand the quantum mechanics that they use in the show, I feel it made it a lot more complicated than it had to be. Without all that quantum mechanics talk we have: - Mai --> Doesn't know if she wants to be an actress anymore and recognized by everyone, so she wishes people wouldn't see her as much anymore, leading to people ignoring and ultimately forgetting her. - Koga --> Doesn't want to be alone in class due to a bad decision so she simulates a potential future in her head in which she ultimately falls in love with Sakuta. - Futaba --> Sometimes wishes she was a different person, so she ultimately creates an actual second personality of hers. - Nodoka --> Has a complex about how her sister is so much better and doesn't even care for her, so her and her sister switch bodies because she thinks it will not only give her the affection she wants, but also shows her sister how hard she has been working - Kaede --> Gets bullied in school and therefore loses her memories to protect herself - Shoko --> A combination from Koga and Futaba. She is afraid of her future so she starts to simulate it in her head in which she also creates a second persona of herself that grows old, but the way this character reaches adulthood is due to someone else dying and therefore, she doesn't want to choose that future

Just to be 100% clear.. Shoko's syndrome started when she was in 4th grade?

I LOVE THIS ANIME OMG THIS IS AMAING MANNN

So basically, Shoko pulls a doctor strange and sees a timeline where everything works out by trial and error. Sakuta can also remember the times the timelines reset but as dreams. So he lived and could manipulate some time travel. But after enough trial and error Shoko finds a good timeline where they can a live happy. Then everyone lives on happily ever after.

However, because my thoughts are scientific, I still want to respect the multiverse theory. I don't think Shouko creating another universe can erase the old one, because the universe operates in a way that expands and continues in time, it cannot go back. So if we create that universe, it will continue to exist. So I feel quite sad because in a certain world, Sakuta lost Mai and was sad in that world for the rest of his life. I think after Sakuta dressed as a bunny and saved himself in another universe from an accident, he immediately disappeared and returned to his old world, then told himself that he saved "himself" in another world.

Having read the light novels and then going back to watch this, one detail that I felt important and not in the movie was future Shouko with Mai's heart was wearing a wedding ring. Sakuta noticed, figured it out and even wanted her to pass a message onto his future self in this Shouko's future to "make your adorable bride the happiest person in the world." She did say earlier that, "she always wanted to get married in college!"

But how did Mai know where the crash would be? Did she follow him to it?

What a great great anime so glad the movie got a happy end amazing in Tuesday they gona show the next movies in a double feature in my town in Germany can't wait for it man am I exited

So it's basically a double reverse spiderman:NWH, Dr. Strange Dormamu script flip with a happy ending.

So what I understood is that everything happened, the anime movie+ the series both happened for real and are not a dream or simulation. But as soon as shoko fell asleep during that last part of the movie, she went back in time and made sure that Sakura never met the future her. Therefore all the events that we saw in the show and movie didn't happen, but all the characters involved still had dreams of them, which gave them intuitions and those intuitions led to the events actually happening again. So therefore the entire story of the last 2 years or so repeated itself (including all the puberty syndromes Sakura hat to deal with) up until the point where shoko is close to dying, just with the difference that no one actually knows or met shoko and therefore doesnt know of her. So then she is saved through sakutas charity and mai's acting and everything is good again. So my question is, if that all is true and how it happened, then doesn't that mean that every character that's currently alive is just the 2nd version of the character that we actually know? Or are they the exact same characters just with less memories snd reverted back in time

This man Sakuta really created an AOT broken time loop/line by going out of his way to be kind to young and old Shoko lol. Only difference is it was a happy ending 😭😭😭 It’s crazy that basically if he wouldn’t have went over the top to help both young and old shoko, they wouldn’t have been able to save him and none of this would be happened, like shoko said to him in his room, they saved each other. Also Tomoe is the most important character without knowing it lol.

For the first time ever, I actually understood such a complex movie on my own. I came here to see if my deduction was correct.

So can anyone pls pls summarise it for me linking both the movie and series together. I don't understand that how Mi-chan knew about the syndrome in the movie but did not remember the girl, why?

One thing that is missing in the movie (I checked for it the second time I watched the movie) but which is in the light novels is that there actually two future timeline Shokos: College Shoko with Sakuta's heart after Mai's death and the second is Shoko with Mai's heart. The key difference? The second Shoko wears a wedding ring from Sakuta. Despite living her best future she still wants to sacrifice herself as future Sakuta is never able to recover from Mai's death and she couldn't reconcile with this.

I have a theory about Sakuta's wound (just my understanding, not factual); His wounds appears if Older/Future Shouko exists in Sakuta's timeline, right? Well that's maybe because from the accident that was about to happen. The accident prolly happened that will happen and Sakuta is like a walking dead in their timeline where Future Shouko exists. She's alive because she had Sakuta's heart and thus the wound represents the accident was occured that will happen. My other concept about Sakuta's wound when Shouko's is in ICU is that Sakuta will die if Shouko died either. So that Shouko will be alive. Because, Future Shouko exists in their timeline. And then Shouko will grant what she wished in her future that was written in her assignment. If Future Shouko didn't exist, the wound wouldn't exist either. And yet, that's only my theory.

I slammed my head into my hands and cried like a child when mai jumped in to save sakura. I was ready to turn the movie off and just cry all night but I’m glad I finished it so glad it’s now my top romance anime/movie
