Slow life in Northern Italy - teaser | Slow Living Vlog
It was lovely to see your nasturtiums….mine succumbed to the cold and snow here in the UK. Breakfast is homemade muesli with milk, topped with a banana, and a cappuccino.
My breakfast always starts with my one cup of coffee a day. But the remainder of the meal will be dependent on what's on the agenda for the day and the weather. Today gusting winds called for oatmeal with raisons, pecans and some honey from Switzerland. Fortifying to venture outside to bring in tender potted plants and covering other perrineals for tonight's 29F forecast. The first of winter's below freezing temps. Oh, appreciate your and Ms. Z's recipes. I have made a few and they were delicious. Greetings from N. Carolina, USA
Such beautiful, colorful landscapes! 🍂♥️ And your kale looks amazing. 👏 I‘ve never tried tuscan kale before, so now I am curious and want to find and cook the dish you showed in your video. It looked very very tasty. 😊👌
Thanks Ina, I really appreciate your comment. 😊 The colors are out there, we just have to go and pick them. It's all very beautiful, and I think the Camus quote is extremely appropriate. It's the first time I planted kale and for being in a pot it seems to have grown very well. As for black kale, it is typical of Tuscany. It is very resistant, last year in March I let it flower for the bees. You can find it with various names, here it is called "cavolo nero" (black kale) but in English it is also called Tuscan kale, lacinato kale, black cabbage and even dinosaur kale. In German Schwarzkohl. As you have seen the recipe is very simple but good. Greetings to your friends in the woods.
I would really like to know how that Bosco d'estate tastes! Is it only black tea? I use to have green tea+ginger+orange and bread with marmelade! Beautiful footages of the woods! My mum gave me today some cavolo nero from her veggie yard, i usually use it in soups but never cooked it with orzo. I will have a try! Enjoy rest of the week, snow is expected tonight here, I think in your area too!
Hi Lara, I'll tell you the composition of the blend: black tea from Ceylon, South India and China, elderberries, blackberry, pieces of strawberry and raspberry. We bought it in Trento. Yes, the landscapes are beautiful, and above all, I have them here at my fingertips, I leave the house and without taking any vehicle I start my walk. In fact, the traditional Tuscan recipes are different but it is also suitable for being cooked in other ways, and I like this one a lot. In fact, it should snow here too, we'll see tomorrow morning, for now nothing. Thank you very much for your comment, I'm happy that you liked it and found it interesting. Have a good weekend! 😊
@fifthfloorgarden the tea sounds really delicious ! You are very lucky to have such a beautiful place next home ! Oh I didn't remember about ribollita toscana, It has cavolo nero and it's sooo good 😋
Thank you again for sharing. The colours of the trees! Just so beautiful. Were you employing drone to help you taking the view from the sky? Nice work 👍
Thank you so much for your comment. 😊 Yes, the colors of nature are truly spectacular at this time of year.🍂 And I fully agree with that quote by Albert Camus. Indeed, I used a drone this time, and it was worth it. Thanks again, I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Hi! 😊 I hope you’re all doing well. 🙂 What about you? What kind of breakfast do you have? Or do you skip it altogether? 🤔 Thank you for spending time with me! 💛
Hello Mr. Rudy, I wonder what it smells like? I'm really scared of strange smells in the house and maggots, I’m still not delay to try this method
Hi, thanks for your comment! 😊 I keep the two Bokashi buckets in my kitchen, one full for fermentation and one that’s being filled. I can assure you that, when used correctly, they don’t smell at all, and there are no worms or anything like that. Personally, I don’t add meat scraps, but I don’t think it would make a difference. Ms. Z has a very sensitive nose. 😊 The Bokashi tea does have a distinct smell, but you only notice it when draining it through the tap. This whole part is done indoors. There’s a slight smell when transferring from the Bokashi bucket to the soil container, but only until you cover it with soil. This final phase is done outdoors, not inside the house. I hope I’ve shared useful info to help you get a bountiful harvest! 🌱
@ luckily we have the same sensitive nose 😂 thank you for this helpfull information. In the South of Vietnam, the weather is hot, arround 28-30oC (~ 85oF), just little bit cooler in the end of the year, so I’m not confident with this type of fertilizer. But I have a baby and this is the most reason makes me hunt an organic method. So happy to see your video here. Thank you so much!
Keep in mind that even here in Northern Italy, we get those temperatures or even higher in the summer. ☀️ Sending greetings to you and your little one from Italy! 😊
I use a cheap trash box covered with a net where I put some soil with activators and then add all my plant based kitchen scraps (I cut them into small pieces so it takes less time to decompose). I have to mix it at least every other day, but in 3 months I have a decent compost I can use for my few plants.
Hi, thank you for sharing your experience. 😊 Yes, that's also a great method. I needed a solution I could manage indoors since I don’t have a garden and wanted something less demanding. With Bokashi, once it's in the bucket, you don’t need to mix it.
Thanks for the info, I've often wondered how the Bokashi composting system works. I have worm farms. This is another good option.
Thank you, Miranda, for your comment! 😊 I see that many have heard of this method but haven’t seen concrete examples. I’m happy if this video can be useful to someone. I wouldn’t mind having access to vermicomposting either. 🪱 I’ve done some experiments in the past, but on a balcony, it’s quite inconvenient. In your case, you could even combine both methods. Let me know if it works for you! 👩🌾🌱
I have seen this method used but in larger scale. I am so grateful to you for showing how it can work for small balcony gardens - I fully intend to have one someday! I take from your beautiful videos two wonderful things: learning and peacefulness. Thank you!! 🌻
Thank you so much for your kind words! I'm happy to hear that you find both inspiration and a sense of calm in my videos; that means a lot to me. 😊 This method really is so adaptable, and I’m glad to show how even a small balcony can thrive. Let me know your results if you try this method! 🌿🌻
So peaceful and yet useful 🙏🏻 Grazie
Thank you Elina! Glad you like it.
So interesting to watch and learn. I haven't heard of this method before and I like that it's compact enough for my small garden space. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you for your comment; I really appreciate it! Yes, the advantage is that the first phase of composting is done entirely indoors without any hygiene issues or bad odors. Plus, it works in all seasons.
Such an informative video you made Sir. Love every bit of process. So refreshing. Thank you lot❤
Thank you so much for your comment! I hope this video can be helpful for people like me who don’t have much space to grow plants.
I have a large Australian designed biodigester to compost down kitchen scraps, as well as a traditional compost heap. I have 8 large raised beds, and they are given a thick layer of compost in late autumn after harvest, except the onion/garlic beds which are composted after those alliums are harvested. Heard of Bokashi, bur not seen it in practice, and thank you for showing us how it is done.
Thank you for your comment! Bokashi composting is a very useful method for small setups like mine where there’s no garden or in urban spaces. If I had more space, I’d go for traditional composting methods. However, I know that some people combine the two systems, for example, using Bokashi during the colder months. The biodigester idea is really interesting-thanks for sharing your experience!
Hi! 😊 What method do you use to nourish your plant soil? Have you heard of Bokashi? If you have any questions, leave them below. Thanks for joining me!
Hi! Beautiful video this time too. Just please be careful with the bird feeder if you live in an apartment. Neighbors sometimes complain about them.
Hi! Thank you so much; I’m glad you enjoyed the video! I’ll definitely keep an eye on the bird feeder and make sure it doesn’t cause any issues. Hopefully, the neighbors won’t mind!
Oh my gosh, that looks delicious 😋!!
I really love it; it’s one of my favorite dishes during the warm season!
Thank you!
Thank you for your comment!
Beautiful video as always. The more you see it, the more you appreciate it. Nature in autumn is amazing. All those colors that explode before the great winter sleep. I love autumn and I could never stop admiring images of nature in this season. The Jerusalem artichoke flowers are beautiful and their root is also very good sautéed in a pan. Thanks for your precious work
Thank you so much for your kind words, it means a lot to me! ❤ I'm really happy you enjoyed the video and appreciate autumn's beauty as much as I and Ms. Z do. The colors truly are incredible this time of year 🍂. The Jerusalem artichoke is such a versatile plant-both lovely and delicious! Thanks again for watching and for your thoughtful comment! 😊
Beautiful. You make even a rainy morning look beautiful.
Thank you so much! Even rainy mornings have their charm, especially when nature is all around.
Peaceful and beautiful, your videos make me smile. I love the little bird feeder! I have just been to my local garden nursery today and brought some plants for spring planting here in Australia. Enjoy the beautiful autumn weather.
Thank you so much! I'm really glad my videos bring a smile to your face. 😊 How lovely that you've picked up some plants for spring planting! What kind of plants did you buy?
@@fifthfloorgarden I bought some daisies and herbs. Just moved so I’m planning a little herb garden.🪴
@@wildpeace Perfect, it's a good start!
Great video. what is the Exact ID of the Yellow flower in the begining.
Thank you so much for you comment! These are the flowers of *Helianthus tuberosus*, commonly known as Jerusalem artichoke, sunchoke, Canadian sunflower, German turnip, or tuberous sunflower. The tubers are edible and have a taste similar to artichokes.
@@fifthfloorgarden That's great. Thank you so much for this information. Cheers
I'm glad you found it helpful. Cheers! 😊
Thank you for another lovely restful video. I love hearing the sounds of birdsong so clearly ❤, and also seeing what you are planting, coming into Autumn/Winter
Thank you so much for your kind words! I’m really glad you enjoyed the video and the sounds of the birds. ❤ They are my soundtrack all year round. Now I'm waiting for them to come and eat at the self-service spot I’ve prepared for them. It’s always a joy to share what I’m planting as the seasons change.
Excellent video as usual.
Thank you Cynthia, I'm glad you enjoyed it!
I am glad you are able to take nature walks again. Thank you for another beautiful video.
Thank you so much! We humans also have setbacks from time to time, but I’m recovering now. I’m really happy to be able to enjoy nature walks again, they bring me so much peace. I’m also glad you enjoyed the video-it means a lot! 😊
Another great video. Thank you for sharing. Nice thought on the bird feeder. The working bench or table a bit low, might not be good for your back...
Thank you so much for your comment; I really appreciate it. 🙂 Now I hope the little birds notice this thing I made for them. 🐦 Yes, the table is low, but it's the one we sometimes use for breakfast on the balcony. In fact, I should set up a corner of my home to do various projects and build a workbench at the right height.
Hi! 😊 I'm happy to see you.❤ How is October in your area? Do you like it, or do you prefer other months? Thank you so much for enjoying this little journey into my life connected with nature in northern Italy. 🍂
Beautiful video as always! I really enjoyed watching the rainy scenes and the transforming of your cozy balcony. 😊 October is one of my favorite months! 🍂
@@inadoart Hi Ina, thank you so much for your comment. 😊 I'm glad you liked it. I especially enjoy the changing of the seasons, each one has its own meaning, and I try to appreciate the beauty in all of them. As for the balcony, the winter plants are growing, and soon I'll start harvesting them. I'm curious to see if the bird feeder will be appreciated.
Mi piacciono molto i tuoi video. Sono molto rilassanti. Scrivo dal Belgio. Sta piovendo molto in questo momento.
