Modifying a Porsche Boxster 987 until it looks modern
Porsche Boxsters are a great introduction to Porsche ownership, with the kudos of the brand and excellent performance, all for an affordable price.
However the 987 Boxster is now looking dated - being a car from 2005, and I wanted to take mine into the modern era with a few tasteful upgrades.
Message me if you want to know exactly where I purchased the parts in this video! Thanks for watching.

this tail light is not good as the LED light will seep through the space. suggest changing to another newer ones.
Looks great
Spoiler is horrendous everything else aight
@@gusbrown7781 thanks Gus
Nice video, i do think you overpaid alot on aliexpress parts listed on ebay for 10x the price. But it does the job, thats the important part!
@@Jebsss which parts in particular Jeb?
This is up for sale right now isn't it,I'd buy it if you took finance
You forgot the most important thing: lowering it. Changes the car completely
@@johnnyricci4476 I hate lowered cars tbh! Who wants to constantly scrape their car on the road
I'm happy you enjoy your car with the changes you value. That said, you may want to keep the stock parts in case you sell later on.
@@BananasananaB sold with the mods months ago mate!
@@360ANT You didn't really keep it very long. What didn't you like about it?
Looks great Bro. Do your thing, don't listen to negativity. From 986s 03.
@@TyroneTurner-r5h appreciate Tyrone! Can’t believe a simple mod video angers this many people haha 😝 they should see my other video….
the front looks good but i feel like the shape of the rear taillights just gives it away
@@reclose5217 you mean you can tell it’s an older Porsche?
Nice wheels the under lights are tacky asf tho 🙄
@@krs7757 that’s the idea friend, we’re bringing 2001 back
Nar underlights are cool always have been, better now than the back in the day ones as got led's colour change now,
Is there a link for the tail lights please?
@@mkc1rrc they’re the only thing I didn’t buy!
Damn, What a Lustful 987 Fantastic Upgrades That Really Make The 987 Boxster Like Better Than New!!!
sweet
Nice, done pretty much all of above - but uk and rgb under lights is pretty much useless cos of restrictions :(
@@Cosmospheric I’ve heard certain colours like purple are fine!
Or how to ruin a classic
@@fredtafel hahaha thanks Fred.
Ciao quel tipo di specchietti mi sapresti dire dove comprarli?
The marker lights look terrible.
@@scottbrandl6322 thanks Scott 🤣
I would have suggested a Flow design kit or Maxton kit as they add abit of edge without looking thrashy....But you have the under glow installed so it would probably to hard to fit... I live in Australia and have a Scirocco R...I struggle to get the most basic stuff...I got told Singapore and Malaysia have some very cool mods... I have seen awesome tail lights and bonnet/hoods with carbon fibre etc...
@@lavine0823 I did look at the maxton kit, I’ve decided to sell this project though as I want to start another one! Honestly sites like aliexpress can sometimes have decent mods but I don’t know if I would trust a whole carbon fibre bonnet from there 😂
Great looking car Congrats 🎉❤
@@Threetimeguy appreciate!
Looks great, oem plus look.
@@YumboYack2521 appreciate, that’s what I was going for!
You forgot the black wing mirrors. You blew it 😢
@@MarkPeet-de7kn actually I had them but looked better without strangely!
Great video, considered lowering it on H&R springs?
Appreciated! Possibly yes, looking to find some softer suspension as the scirocco is quite hard as standard.
@@360ANT agreed.... !
hey quick tipp for the next video: set your mic to mono instead of stereo so the video is more enjoyable and we can hear u on both of our ears :) GREAT Video btw 👍
Appreciate that, I have done this on my latest upload!
Amazing video
@@ahmadsaleh2819 appreciate G!
Car looks great! Not a fan of the underglow but each to their own. Wheels and body colours go great together.
@@tristannicholson7885 appreciate that! I guess you can always turn the underglow off 😅
@@360ANT is it not illegal to have under glow in the uk?
Hey man, great video i think you should definitely get xenon lights. Also sticking to one underglow color might look better, when are you planning to get into engine modifications?
@@thebeamdriver appreciate that! Yes I was looking at them but the yellow bulb kind of suits the bronze wheels I feel 😅 engine mods possibly coming soon!
How did they fit a new IMS bearing? Post 05/06 this car should have the larger 'for life' IMS fitted that cant be extracted unless you split the cases as its too big to be extracted externally?
Was an RMS fitted, my mistake!
Hey, where did you get the rear spoiler from please? Just what I’m looking for
sadly mate the guy i bought it from already had it on!
This is great. Hope you pick up a lot more subscribers and really get going with your channel. Good luck 🤞 I think the 987 starts off modern enough to be 'modernised' further with obviously great results. Whereas the 986 benefits from going the other way and aiming for as classic/original a look as possible. Interesting isn't it?!
Thanks so much I appreciate the comment! Doing a scirocco build next so will release that soon!
Please, could you give me the adress to buy the rear lights like yours?
I didn’t buy the rears! I think Google them and you could find them, try LED rear light Porsche booster 2007?
so you changed some lights and it compleatly updated the car hmmmm
It did right
Do you have an aftermarket spoiler too? Seems to have a little bit of a duck tail shape even in the lower position
Came with that so I am not sure! But yes looks modified
Replaced ims , another concern bore scoring, and the reality of the eventual break down ,cause you to do that? or just peace of mind?
Peace of mind, I heard they leak
Change the side vents and lower it
This car has gone now but I am currently working on a Scirocco! Upload soon!
Bravo! miglioramento estetico azzeccato 💥
I'm so jealous!!
Needs side skirts and front splitter . Also this is pretty modern model of boxster u can tell by the headlights
The headlights are all aftermarket ones to make it look more modern!
The 987.2s did not have the IMS issue.
Interesting. I've just been handed the old IMS bearing out of my 2001 986 S. After 133k miles and half a dozen owners, this (English- made) NSK bearing is more than serviceable. In over twenty years, the garage owner reckons that he's seen very few failures. Something around 5% seems about right. But, then again - which 5% ?
I meant I changed the RMS actually my bad!
Rear main seal? Yes, commonly done if you are replacing the clutch and flywheel (DMF). I changed mine out at 115k miles even though the original one was serviceable.
Very nice, but not to everyone's taste. In a few years time, I suspect that someone will spend good money taking it back to standard spec.!
I like roxymusic! ! I'm keeping my 2006 boxster s completely stock! Except the stickers inside hood and trunk! Grateful dead, UH, state flag etc. Aloha from westside Oahu Hawaii! Top down, year round!
@@MK-su6eg That's nice to know. Hope your weather's more conducive to top-down driving than here in the chilly, grey, and wet UK springtime. You've probably found the best location for most stickers, too: mine mostly cover scratches and dings !
@@roxximusik8958 sold with the mods months ago mate. New owner bought it specifically for the look of it!
@@360ANT Well done ! What's next ?
You could spray the mirrors black , nice easy mode ...
What?

I always hated the front bumper from this generation so I saved up a bit more and purchased a 981 instead of
That’s great Scott
It looks like there will be significant changes on the 2025 model. There have been some photos where most of the camouflage has been removed and the front bumper, the headlights, and the tail lights look quite a bit different.
Looks great
Appreciate!!
Modern for 2012 ish
correct!
Beautiful, I'm def switching to black rims cause the silver collects brake dust after 1-2 days
Very true! I still get a brown residue from the dust on these rims though!!
Happy to send pics via txt or email.
my left ear loved this video

@@360ANT i dont think you understood his comment lol , its because the voiceover is only coming through the left headphone , if you have headphones on All good though , great video
@@awaishussain2467 I did understand 🤣
@@jlebrech I’ve sorted this on my new video please check it out my man
Is the side quarter panel vents carbon fiber ?
No just gloss black
Front fogs look great, a nod to the 987.2. that said, the 987 is beginning to look "classic" and 987 owners are about to benefit from the change in appreciation, from "old" to "classic". Mods that try to make it look "modern" may go against that. I'm keeping my 987.2 in the classic realm... But, to each his own.
That's a good point! I still think we are a bit away from calling them a classic though! BUT I kept the old parts anyway!
@@360ANTWould love to know where you got the side repeaters and the DRL’s from, they’re much better than stock IMHO.
@@Earlofdavetona DRL just on eBay, try smoked side indicators for porsche 987 on eBay and amazon aswell!
@@360ANT Thanks, sorry forgot to ask about the rear lights? Same source?
@@Earlofdavetona yes probably, I didn’t actually buy them! They came with it
Nice job….on my 2010 Boxster I did rear lights with “Spyder” style, side markers in smoke, complete clutch system, full SOUL headers and cat backs, Bilstein struts, Numerics shifter and cables, and a few other odds and ends. Agree it really freshens the look, performance and sound courtesy of SOUL. At 138k miles, figure I am not even half way through the service life of my “friend.”
Sounds awesome, do you have a picture of it??
Well done ! I've only got 133k on my 2001 986. (Has your IMS bearing been renewed yet ?)
How are you enjoying the Numeric set-up? Wondering if you changed-out your shift knob as well, if you found a weight that you like for that shifter?
@@roxximusik8958know IMS issues with the 987.2s to my knowledge.
@@ScottFentonfullbe6 I love the Numerics shifter and cables. Shifts are firm, crisp and definitive. I shopped for a new shift knob, but the one I wanted from Flat Six motors is no longer in production. I expect the extra weight would have more inertia but once started the momentum would speed up the shift. Let me know if you go that route. Next brake job I intend to install a GT3 master cylinder and Goodridge steel brake lines.
