This is both the East and West Surrey regiments? My Great Grandfather was East Surrey regiment, deployed summer 1915, died October 1915. Is it possible he could be training in this clip?

Thank you for your question. Unfortunately, without more information about your grandfather we cannot say whether he is among these soldiers being trained. However, if you contact us at the Surrey History Centre, with additional information on your grandfather, we may be able to help you. Our address is 130 Goldsworth Road, Woking, Surrey, GU21 6ND, email: shs@surreycc.gov.uk.

Opre Roma.. Well done, Surrey History Trust; My addled brain tells me that IF 'Georg Armbruester' kindly gave our worthy leader, Romani Rose, that iconoclastic status which we, & those Brits [within Surrey (UK)] sincerely give Romani Rose, then Armbruester & perhaps all of Georg's people --& their conveniently silent Confederates laired in mainland Europe!-- would realise that anywhere between (600,000 to 1.5 million Roma-&-Sinti SOULS) were actually ripped apart > to the heavens prematurely...in that Nazi bloody Era. Nevertheless, I hope that R.R. will 1 Day holistically get what he yearned for. [Accountability?] --"Some day; one day" ...

I stumbled across this video while doing some research on Dalai Lama which was negatively on the news real lately. I met his holiness briefly on two occasions. Back in 73/74 I was courting the Vietnamese teacher portraied on your video, and travel on the motorcycle from London to Haslemare on weekends to see her. 49 years and two "children" later we are leaving a active life in our late 70's in Kauai. Like many NGO's The Ockenden Venture/International, is shrouded in political controversies.

I worked for DHSS in Woking and visited families arriving at Ockenden House to assess their immediate needs as, having arrived in flimsy clothing from Vietnam via Hong Kong, they were not suitably clothed for a cold wet Surrey. I was heartened to note that they forged careers using their skills and were very soon supporting themselves and contributing to Britain's prosperity and diversity.

Current opening hours can be found on the Centre's website: www.surreycc.gov.uk/culture-and-leisure/history-centre/visit/opening-hours-and-find-us. @Spencer O'Dowd. Many thanks for the comment Spencer. It’s in an electoral register reference binder at Surrey History Centre. However, the binder was put together many years ago and we're not sure now where the map came from. We will do some research to see if we can find a digital copy. If you haven't already found them, there’s a really good map showing the old Surrey parishes on the East Surrey side on the East Surrey Family History Society’s website (www.eastsurreyfhs.org.uk/index.php/resources/parishes-covered) and a very useful interactive map on the FamilySearch Wiki Site (www.familysearch.org/mapp/). If you can e-mail me on info@exploringsurreyspast.org.uk I can register your request and then we can let you know directly if we find the original map. Phil Cooper Exploring Surrey's Past Officer
