WINTER CAMPING IN THE NATIONAL FOREST - OHP KICKED US OFF TALIMINA DRIVE!
มุมมอง 1.1K2 ปีที่แล้ว
On this trip, my buddy Lane and I took off to the furthest Oklahoma end of the Ouachita National Forest for a short one night camping trip and found a winter wonderland! The higher we went the slicker the trails and roads got. The Talimina Drive was ridiculously slick and we almost lost the jeep to a faster than desired slide down the hill. Any engine modifications? Does your A/C work?
@@equals-kl9hm nothing internal. It has a Dorman replacement exhaust manifold/header, a Thor cowl snorkel, ironmanfab motor mounts, and an all aluminum radiator. I think that’s all the engine related mods it’s got. Yes my AC works. I wouldn’t drive this thing all over the country if it didn’t! Hahaha
Nice!
Really cool upgrades. Any new updates on this ?
I need to do an update on the trailer! I’ll be sure to do that soon! I will be getting back into putting out videos real soon. Have a had a lot going on lately and haven’t got to focus on spending time on videos, but they are coming!
Yo I saw you’re jeep just now
@@ceblue21 sorry I’m just seeing this! really? Where did you see me? Haha
@ in Oklahoma at a market
What size tires does this fit without cutting fenders and rubbing?
33x12.50 on a 15x8 wheel and 3.75” backspace is what I’d recommend for this lift. But if you want to do a little cutting and trimming a 35 will fit on the same wheel.
1 minute in and the tuneage got me to keep watching! Some of the timing with welding and riffs too, great!
Glad to hear it! Heavy music always complements welding videos well in my opinion haha. Thanks for watching!

I like the idea of leaving the gas tank and pump and having onboard fuel for the towing vehicle, or a tongue generator. Maybe just from the output to a long 3/8 fuel line with a valve. And have a drill battery connection to run the pump.
I actually considered this when building this trailer. I determined it to be unnecessary during the build process. I have traveled all over the country and never had an issue with not having enough fuel, and I do have a 5 gallon Jerry can on my back bumper on longer trips for just in case. While it would be cool to have the additional 18 gallon tank, I decided it wouldn’t be worth the extra weight as I was trying to keep this trailer as light as possible while still being supper well built. I’ve since taken this trailer all over on mountain passes, pretty gnarly forest service roads etc and having it as light as I was able to get it is a huge benefit
After quite a few trips now using this trailer I think I am going to add a water tank under the center of the trailer tho as to have onboard water. I thought about cleaning the gas tank and using it for this but didn’t really feel the steel tank would be ideal. Plus I’d rather have any kind of sloshing liquid be located in the center of the trailer.
@@WhateverWithWheels thank you for the extra insight! I find myself running low on fuel on 10 day+ elk hunting trips in Colorado on the fire roads. Plus sometimes we go camping locally and bring a generator. My wife will drive the Tesla separately and the kids have run out of battery sitting in it and running the heat/playing games on the consul.
Where did you find that extra long receiver hitch?
That is the 30” offering from lock n roll hitches!
gud men..👍👍👍
Found a couple of these I am going to look at this weekend. Looked into the regular utility trailer idea, then a van, camper, etc., for what I am looking to do I think an old F150 long bed will suit me just fine. Awesome, will definitely follow the build, maybe confiscate some ideas. Thanks for the vidz so far.
Awesome! A utility bed was a thought for me. Maybe a future project? Haha it would have to be a mini truck size tho. A full size bed is much to big for the trails I take this thing down
@@WhateverWithWheels, mine will be used for camping and fishing. Not much for off roading type stuff. It will be used as a camper mainly, an awning, etc., so It can park it and still have truck functionality, vice having to pack up camp every time I need to go get something. Cool, and thanks again!
Do you have any highway sway issues when empty, after the suspension and wheel upgrades? I just got a 78 Chevy Luv trailer i plan on doing this to. I know its a weight issue, but i am hoping this would fix the sway when driving faster that 55 when empty.
Absolutely zero issue with mine. I built the tongue on it heavy as to make the tongue weight right when empty. Most of the time the sway comes from having to much weight behind the axle. Be sure to make your tongue long enough and have enough weight on the tongue when empty and you shouldn’t have an issue.
Where is part 4?
I need to do an update for part 4! I had a baby recently and have been slacking on the TH-cam videos. More to come soon!
@@WhateverWithWheels Thanx And CONGRATS on the new baby!
Just found your channel and watched part 1. This is something I've been wanting to do for a long time. Great job!
Thank you!
No big hydraulic lifts, no fancy tools, just some good 'ole fashion on your back wrench-in. Awesome Job!
Thanks! I do use the lift in the other parts of the video. Makes things easy haha
What’s the best thing to use to clean the mating surfaces for the water pump?
I typically use a razor blade or a brass wire wheel if you can fit it in there
Hello, do we need to rub any kind of sealant on the gasket? Or can I just clean the surfaces and bolt on a new water pump and gasket?
These use an o ring style gasket, so no sealer or anything is needed. Make sure you get the mating surfaces clean tho so it can seal properly.
Why is it necessary to have the crap music background?
Typically added music is used for two things. Firstly to keep people engaged in the video as long silence has shown to make people click off of the video. Secondly to cover up the copyrighted background music I had playing in the shop as to not have the video taken down by a copyright strike. I will admit the music in this video wound up being much louder than what I normally shoot for. Everyone has different music taste and in a shop style video an aggressive rock music appeals to more of the target audience than other genres. If it’s not your cup of tea I apologize.
80 thousand on factory pump. i feel great then. baby pushing 167,000 on my 2015 scat pack
Yessir, it’s crazy how much variance you can see in OEM part reliability! This car ate a lifter not long after this at 91k miles so it’s now got a healthy cam and several other goodies. I need to do an update video on this car haha
Great job, thanks for sharing. Love exploring the Ozarks.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great video! Love it that you and your Pop are working together. I've been looking into the IRO 5.5 long arm kit and that's what brought me to your video. Thanks! The Jeeps look great! You've got my subscription & 👍
Thanks man! I appreciate it! IRO makes some great parts!
Great build man! Loving it 🫡🤟
Thank you!
😎💪🙏
🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
Nice looking ZJ! It resembles my own 94 Grand Chieftain. 😄👍
Right on man! Thanks!
Sweet rig. I bought a 97 ZJ laredo with the 4.0 as my first car. It already had a 3 inch lift via spacers and 31in tires. Your zj is a Sterling example of the plans I have for mine.
Very cool!
Good stuff
Yessir!!
Idk why u didnt throw some of that dirt on road from where you slid in. You gotta shovel im sure. Prolly some sand somewhere even. Slick vid lol
Well, it was stupid cold and didn’t want to sweat if possible haha took less effort to just pendulum it across with the winch line! Worked out pretty well!
How bigga lift on that zj. How bigga the tires? They 35’s? Some more jeep details please. 4.0 i can tell by the sound. Youre a good friend fixing your buddies shit for him.
I’ve got a video detailing what’s done to the jeep! Check it out on my channel!
Lower that on lift 6-8” when working. No need to work overhead like that. Same w taking off and putting on tires. Leave it low.
I prefer working at eye level and not adjusting the lift all the time haha I do pull it down when working outside but underneath I like it high 🤘🏼
Loved it! Awesome trip!
Ahhhh yeah I remember the stories from this trip.
Was a good one!
Baker Vision 😂. Great video dude. ❤
Thanks man!
You still working on the Toyota trailer build?
Yessir it’s had some changes and about to make some more! Will have an update video on it soon! It’s been all over Colorado this past summer!
There are lots of pictures on my instagram as well if your interested! @Elisturg is my personal and @whateverwithwheels is the youtube account
Cool build
Thank you sir!
Dude! Excellent video!
Thanks man!
Looks fun! What part of the Ozarks is this?
Mostly over on the eastern side but kinda all over!
Awesome video! I hope you know how fortunate you are to have a dad to do this stuff with
Yessir. I am quite fortunate. I grew up with him teaching me about rock crawling and wanting to be just like him, and now I’ve drug him over to the overlanding side of things and he wants to be just like me hahaha kidding of course.. but not really..
Nice job!
Thank you!
I just got a 1979 Toyota short bed trailer. I had seen your video before and I thought it looked bad ass. Just the way it sits. As a Toyota 4runner 3rd gen enthusiasts I salute your work !!! Did you just change the location of the shocks or did you also changed the springs?
Thanks! Yeah all I did when I flipped the axle was put the plates on the top instead of the bottom and got slightly shorter shocks! Has worked out great so far!
Hey I have a 98 grand cherokee limited 5.2ltr that is blowing a nasty mist out the defrost that makes it look as if I've hot boxed it in no time & does not defrost the windows.. No leaks from heater core & both hoses running in & out are equally warm. AC has never worked since I bought it. Replaced the blower resister but defrost spray has made it so I can't drive it & I need it. Any suggestions would be beyond appreciated!
You did a really nice job young man
Thank you!
Great 👍 video I'm building a 93 now your buggy looks awesome thanks
Thanks!
Flip the tailgate down and you can put 16' lumber in there....like a trailer!
Hahaha oh yeah! Luckily I have a long trailer for such activities haha
Really enjoyable build series 💪🏻👍🏻
Thank you sir! More to come for this one!
Great video
Thank you!
hey you done with this? Wheres part 4? Just got a 77 Chevy luv bed that I had a similar idea and came across yours.
I should have another part to this series coming out soon! It is “done” to the point of being able to use it and it’s been great! I am about to add some additional stuff to the trailer as well so there should be more updates coming!
im so inspired to build one after watching your videos.
Haha it’s a pretty easy process! Just a lot of work! If you build one keep me updated! 🤘🏼
Just picked up my first zj! You’ve got yourself another subscriber man lol love your videos!!!!
Very cool! Thank you!
My family and I have taken the trip from Fort Worth TX to White Rock mountain around 10 times over the years. It's one of our favorite places to go to. This past summer I finally bought a 4runner so I can go down all of the trails that I've seen. We're heading up there next month for Thanksgiving break to camp. Thanks for the video. Definitely has me looking forward to getting off the pavement..
Very cool! Having a capable 4wd opens up a whole new outlook on things man! Can see things from a whole different perspective.
Great job on the video! For your first go at voice over, great job! Just stumbled across your channel and recognized Taylor lol. Subscribed!
i hope you see this comment. if i put this lift on my 95 zj 4.0i, will i need longer driveshafts or will the stock ones work?
We used the stock drive shafts on this jeep! anything over 5.5” I would recommend a skip yolk eliminator and new rear shaft with a double Carson joint. It’s not a bad idea to do that with this 5.5” kit as well but you can get away with the stock one!
