This balloon was in Earth’s atmosphere, and the atmosphere obviously rotates with the planet. To see movement, you need an outside reference that doesn’t move. The stars are such a reference, and a time lapse photos of the night sky shows Earth’s rotation nicely. Also, the horizon is curved, not a straight line.
