YASA In 2023: On The Global Stage With Mercedes Benz.
In 2023, YASA featured on the biggest of global stages, when, as part of the unveiling of the stunning Mercedes-Benz Vision One-Eleven, we demonstrated the result of iconic design meeting groundbreaking technology.
The automotive technology media was again captivated by what YASA axial flux promises to bring to future vehicle design, architecture, performance and efficiency. We were delighted to receive such focus after celebrating 10 years of groundbreaking performance and honoured to receive accolades along the way, as well as announcing the £21.2M (including a £10.6M APC grant) project to develop in-wheel motor technology for the future. There is so much more to come in 2024 and beyond!
In 2023, YASA @YasaLimited was centre stage with Mercedes-Benz, with the relaunch of an automotive icon, to show what happens when design elegance meets next-generation technology.

The YASA Story - Axial Flux Motors: The Future Of Electric Vehicle Propulsion
มุมมอง 257Kปีที่แล้ว
The YASA Axial Flux Motor is an ultra high performance electric vehicle motor, capable of taking you further & faster, due to it's unmatched weight, size and power density, compared to current electric cars on the road. And it is a reality today. This is the YASA Story. It started in 2005, when YASA CTO & Founder, Tim Woolmer, during his PHD, began investigating the electric motor and it's suit...

Mercedes-Benz and YASA - sparking the electric revolution with Axial Flux Motors
มุมมอง 36K2 ปีที่แล้ว
YASA is engineering the electric propulsion revolution. Most of the electrification industry still relies on radial electric motors. Radial motors are based on legacy technology that’s more than 50 years old. As such they offer a limited roadmap to greater efficiencies, limiting vehicle range and dampening consumer adoption of electric vehicles. At YASA, we believe realising the full potential ...

Windings look standard axial flux type, previously they were set in resin for lightweight. Not sure what is so new ?

    Can axial motors be used as hub motors on EVs like the hub motors being planned for the Aptera? ( Aptera.us). I think this design would work well for on the wheel hub motors further reducing the complexity of an EV--as you don't need a transmission, etc.

    There are two definitions for Free Energy. By getting something for nothing, impossible. And by cost analysis. Troy Reed invented a Free Energy device and documented the journey from a 10' monstrosity to the size of a small commercial refrigerator motor and put it in a small economy car. It runs forever. You'd plug it in to charge the Grid, not the car. That's just one Free Energy device being stifled. Dennis Lee is another name you should look into. My hopes are that this is a whole lot better and they become mainstream. Then someone will try to beat them until Free Energy is the only way to be better.

    Isn't it a bit disingenuous to talk about torque without mentioning the revolutions / minute the motor makes. He says his motor has 800 Nm torque, but forgot to mention that this is at 5000 revs/min, while a conventional EV motor does 20 000 revs/min with 400 Nm. So when you gear them both down to 2500 revs (tyre revs at 60 km/h) the YASA motor achieves 1600 Nm torque where the tyre meets the road, while the conventional radial EM motor achieves 3200 Nm. Why didn't he quote the motor output in kiloWatts as it should be done? Then people would figure, that he made a motor that's half the power of the conventional radial flux EM that he was complaring to - this is where most of his weight saving comes from!

    I'm a bit perplexed. Grats on all of the trial and tribulations YASA has overcome over the years. Alot of smart/hard work has gone into your product/s. However: why in the world would you use an oil-based coolant for the stator?!?!? The best oil-based coolant I can find only has a thermal conductivity rating of .125-.126 W/m K.......! WTF?!?! Come on............ I get the coolant needs to be non-conductive over extended periods of time. Even after adsorbing the Ions from the coils. But .125-.126 ?!?!?!? Hell even pure Ethylene Glycol has a rating of .258 W/m K.......... This doesn't make sense. That oil based coolant has to have another purpose other than just pulling heat out of the stator..........

    Have you considered the idea of turning the solid copper stator conductors into tubes, and pumping cooling air through the copper coils? I think it could be a very efficient way of removing heat directly from inside the windings.

    • @brianb-p6586
      @brianb-p6586 ปีที่แล้ว

      Air would be very ineffective as coolant. A water-glycol mixture would be very effective, but not feasible in contact with high voltage. Oil is the solution, but the passage though a winding would be so long and narrow that it would not be practical.
