Welcome to the curle farm!!
Aliesha - Jayden - Logan - Archie
We are a family of 4 who live on a 10acre lifestyle block here in NEW ZEALAND.
We are on our way to creating a very productive piece of land. Trying to become more self-sufficient.
We are currently relandscaping and improving our property as we bought it quite rundown. Subscribe to keep seeing our progress as we move closer to our dreams.
We rear around 50 calves each year as a small buisness. A great way to make a side income on your small block!!
We grow alot of our own fresh produce, grow most of our meat and ofcourse collect our own eggs.
I love creating videos and content and sharing my knowledge about small-scale farming. Also tours and knowledge on my vegegarden and home orchard. It is my passion!!!

Can you do a video on calf feeding from weening to yougstock rearing.
Hun this is alot like what we built 20 odd years ago. One of the things we did which is brilliant is a wind down plastic blind that goes across the whole front which is awesome when the wind is going straight in or its raining. We only wind it down level with the top of the gate. Being plastic is still lets the light in. Bought it off Redpath if I remember correctly.
awesome young calves & barn # if roof has an angle of 6 to 10 degrees the rain water will drain out # good wood shaving beds # wheat 🌾 straw is also good ❤️🇵🇰
Asombroso video 🎉
Hello friend 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
What milk powder you using and meal?
Ngahiwi powder and grow up pellets
What do you do with the wood chip when the calfs are weaned.
We use it all around the gardens. It's great!!! 15 cube to use
An absolutely awesome calf shed Aleisha and Jayden. Very well thought out. The "Once a day farmer ' has a similar new set up for his calves. And Anne and I worked on a large dairy unit at Karaka many years ago, and Anne reared the calves and that farm had a special calf rearing block with an open shed like yours but smaller, 4 pens and a mixing room then we had a central race with 4 small paddocks coming off each side, so you'd let one mob of calves come to shed at a time to feed in the race, then chase them back. But you guys have really thought about what you needed, love the wide gates and smaller gates at back, so easy to get tractor and loader in, to clean out the chip at end of rearing. You have built an awesome asset and it can be used to put machinery etc in when not being used for calves. Love how you've used recycled material too, where you could. The wood chip was always our favourite bedding for the calves, it always looked and kept cleaner.
Thankyou so much ❤ yes thats a great idea about the paddocks with a race. I think eventually it would be cool to have one paddock per pen. And yes 15 cube of mulch we will have is going to be awesome for the gardens 😊
Awesome
How old are they?
These ones are about 3/4weeks
So cool! Need you guys to come stay so Jayden and Matt can upgrade my shed ❤️ love you xox
Yess 😅
The shed looks amazing! So excited for the calf rearing series! I have 4 beautiful Charolais. Could you do a video on coccidiosis? ❤❤❤
Thanks 😊 I love charolais!! I'm planning on making a video all about scours and things very soon
Happy babies <3 I'm really keen to see that video from when you first let them out in the paddock. Question - is it ever an issue with rotavirus hanging around in the shed and infecting the calves the following year?
I am currently editing that video. Sooo cute. They were hooning around for about half an hour. 😂 we clean all bedding out and disinfect so usually don't have an issue.although the calves usually always bring it back home from the sale yards
What position is this tree located in? ie 🧭 as I would like some tips where to plant my dwarf citrus trees thanks
@@Sam-dp3xw full sun and protected from wind. The side that was shaded had very little fruit. So definitely sun is important
Very interneting! Love it, Keep posting , please!
Yes! I have some beautiful Charolais calves. If I ever get Herefords then I’ll make sure I use these tips thank you!❤❤❤

Hello fellow kiwi! I don’t usually comment on videos but wanted to say I saw your calf raising series and I’m glad you are back. It’s so inspiring to see what you’ve done in 6 years here in NZ. Can’t wait to do build my lifestyle dream someday soon. Do you use your phone for recording ?
@EllenHickman aww thankyou do much. That means alot. That will be very exciting for you 😊 I'm using my phone at the moment. I used to use a camera but phones are just alot easier 😄
Wow! Thanks so much for the updates. You've had so much going on! Can't wait to see how it evolves. Your gardening / plant knowledge is ridiculous. Well done, all of it! You guys are really making the place beautiful.
@jeremyj612 thankyou so much 😊
I so need one of these for my chickens!
Wow Aliesha! Your place is looking so amazing after all that work! Well done to both of you!

Welcome back, Anne and I have checked every night since your last video, hoping for a new update, and we were not disappointed, well worth the wait. You guys have been so busy, its a credit to you both. Limes can be used to make a yum salad dressing, thats what Anne uses in our dressings. We didn't like our blackberry and boysenberry plants taking over either so we have them in 60ltr tubs now and have a fence for them to grow on and no more wayward vines popping up where you don't want them. We also had some banana palm pups given to us from family in Auckland, we put them in warm sheltered spots and they took off, once frosts came we cut off the leaves and wrapped the trunk in frost clothe so that when spring comes with warmer weather they will take off. So they will grow in Waikato. However they need feeding to produce fruit, put heaps of foliage plant material around there bases to encourage them, cabbage leaves, comfrey calendula etc to break down and feed the palm. The calf shed will be a great asset for your rearing. The yard looks amazing with the hard work done to date. Well done.
@DonClark-eh3lq hey. Yes, I know it's been a while! But now spring is around the corner there will be lots to film 😊 salad dressing sounds nice! And that's interesting about the banana palms. I do have afew frost free spots. I could give one a go! But a great house would be the ultimate dream. 😊 thankyou for watching
Wow looking fab team and so glad you’re back! Can I just ask about the solar panel at the gate? Is that a driveway alarm? I’ve been wanting to get on for our off grid property but haven’t yet settled on a good option. Are u happy with it and what brand did u go with? Thank u!
@kiwianon468 hey. It's a solar panel for our driveway gates but for some reason the gate motor stopped working. It was only a cheapie. Somthing like $600 for the arms, motor and solar. We are looking into getting an electric one I think as on cloudy days the gates opened super slow!!! I'll let you know how the research goes if we find a good one.
What a couple of hard working people you are! Looks great! Spring definitely comes earlier up there than Canterbury, exciting times.
@mariawhite1328 thankyou so much. Bring on spring!
You have a beautiful home. I love your veggie garden. And your collies-I'm in love!!!

Do any NZ stores ship Stallion cafeterias to USA? I’ve searched but do not see any but was curious if you knew.
@@bamaalltheway1984 hey. I don't think so. But they definitely should.

Super excited just got mine!!!
How did you go with your blue passionfruit? From what I learnt anything more than 3 fingers on a leaf, is a noxious weed that wont fruit and very hard to get rid of. Hope thats not the case!
❤
Yummm! Are you going to do a calf rearing series again?
@@Equine.lover4eva yes .been busy putting up the new shed for this season. Can't wait to show everyone.
It’s a garden of eden
Bro! Power points in the kitchen for the win!!
Hi just wondering where you buy your wood from for the vege gardens?
We just used decking timber and lined it with plastic
So nice having someone that tells you the cost of everything, and also trys to save money where possible. Kitchen looks amazing!!
Thankyou so much. 😊
Hi, Is cold milk replacer fine or you really recommend milk been warmed
Definitely recommend feeding warm . If fed cold, the calf uses its energy to keep warm rather than putting its energy into growing
How much per gallon? This so helpful.
