Life changes so quickly! When it does you have to reinvent yourself and figure out what makes you happy. What is that thing that would inspire you to continue to learn and move forward in a positive direction. My husband and I are childhood sweethearts. We have had a lifetime of ups and downs to conquer together…retirement though… surprisingly, took us awhile. We had to figure out what we could do together that made us both happy. After multiple misses, we finally hit on trails! - riding our ebikes and hiking has inspired us both to learn, grow, and stay as healthy as possible. The TH-cam videos and shorts are a fun way for us to journal, document, and share this chapter in our lives.
Please note, we are not professional youtubers. We do this for fun. We do a bit of research, but not a lot, so we can simply experience as we ride. Mistakes are made. I attempt to catch the mistakes, but much is missed. Apologies for mispronunciations and accuracy errors. They are not intentional.

eBiking the Allegheny River Trail - PA
The Allegheny River Trail is part of the Erie to Pittsburgh Rail Trail System. We rode the trail from Emlenton to the trail’s northern terminus in Franklin. We also decided to add on a few more miles up to Oil City on the connecting Samuel Justus Trail. It is an eBike friendly trail and in fantastic condition. We did struggle around Kent, PA which turned to gravel and was difficult to maneuver, but it is less than a mile and if you slow down, it is not too bad. The tunnels, bridges, mountains, river, stone arches, and trestles made for a wonderful adventure exploring and learning the history of the area with the many placards along the route.
Video correction.
The waterfall by the Kennerdell Tunnel is not Freedom Falls. That is a falls on a hiking trail.
Length:
The southern terminus point of the trail is in Parker, PA; however, there is a substantial gap in the trail from Foxburg to Emlenton, thus, I would recommend beginning in Emlenton and going north to Franklin which is approximately 28 miles.
Recommended Trailhead start:
Allegheny River Trail, Emlenton, PA 16373
Trail map:
www.avta-trails.org/maps.php
Facilities:
There are full service facilities at both the Emlenton and Franklin Trailheads. There aren’t restrooms between those two trailheads, but there are multiple parking areas that give access to the trail.
Bike Shop:
4 Season Cycle in Franklin
There is a bike lane over the bridge to the other side of the river to get to the town of Franklin. 4 Seasons does not appear to service components of eBikes, but they can help with minor repairs.
501 13th St, Franklin, PA 16323
814-440-8078
Hours: Only open on weekends - call first, it varies.
Trail Condition:
It is asphalt and in great condition. It is not glass smooth, there are tree pops, but many pops are marked and as long as you are careful, they are all manageable.
Food:
There are multiple restaurants and places to purchase food in both Emleton and Franklin.
Best picnic spot: Mile marker
Picnic tables were difficult to find along the trail. We found a table because we were hungry, but had we planned better, we would have waited until Franklin which had covered picnic tables and bathrooms.
Lodging:
We stayed at the Sleep Inn in Clarion, PA because we were also going to ride the Redbank Trail. Staying in Clarion allowed us to stay in one location and hit multiple trails. The Sleep Inn was very cost effective, clean, and a hot breakfast with coffee in the morning set us up for success each morning.

BATTERY/CHARGER:
I ride with 1 long and 2 regular range batteries, and two chargers. The batteries each take about 6 hours to charge. I typically get 20-25 miles out of each regular battery and about 30-40 out of my long range depending on terrain and outside temperature. Hills, rough terrain, and colder temps decrease the lifespan.

eBiking the Ghost Town Trail - PA

The Ghost Town Trail is unique because it follows a creek that is currently still toxic from the coal mine drainage. It is a very strange phenomena indeed to be riding the trail and not see any fish or other aquatic animals. We loved the trail even though it poured down rain and we only were able to get 10 miles of it accomplished. It is a trail that we will absolutely need to come back to. The...

I biked this train for about 15 miles in October - beautiful. The tunnels are delightfully creepy. After biking in the daytime I liked this trail so much I rode it a second time at night! Tunnels are creepy in the day but sheer delight at night. By all means, bike this one!
Oh my gosh, you can go through it at night?! That is really awesome! I think I would have been freaked out not being familiar with the area, but man, if you are from that area, what an opportunity!
New Sub Here - I watch (and make) so many hiking vids, this was a refreshing change. I live in Pittsburgh. I love that trail for biking.
Thanks and welcome! We have a lot of fun and really enjoy the trails in PA! You have an amazing state!
Fantastic beauty of a bicycle trail!
Indeed! There is nothing quite like mountain, river, AND trees all along a trail.
Also liked your pics of the unibike as well as the 2-wheeler
Thank you! We just started doing that as we get more comfortable with the GoPro camera.
Beautifully done!!! I'm there with you. Love the drone views of your progress
Awesome, thank you!
Hope you have lots of blankets to curl up in after a warm shower!
Our fingers were numb! We bought battery operated hand warmers shortly after this. The “Hot Hands” things just didn’t last and turned to rocks if they got wet.
The lakes & rivers in northern MN were mostly that reddish brown, too
North Carolina has that red mud, so that is what we thought it was at first… but then sadly realized it was pollution.
What a beautiful, historic trail! Thank you for sharing!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Ohio has the highest mileage of bicycle trails in all of America! SW Ohio is a sweetest ever bicycle riding location!!!
We love the Ohio trails too! It is a very bicycle friendly state for sure!

Do you ever give counties/municipalities/cities feedback on the quality of their trails or maintenance suggestions?
We’ve called in downed trees before! That is really the big one that can stop you in your tracks!
Do you have to stop and charge your bikes? I don’t think ours would make it that far.
We actually have 3 batteries with us at all times. I ran out of power once…once… and oh my… that bike is heavy to pedal. I can’t do it. So, immediately after we purchased another regular range and one long range. The long range gets 30-35 miles, and the regular range gets 20-25.
Recently found your channel and subscribed immediately. Job well done my fellow wanderlust adventurer. Excellent video, audio, content, presentation and editing. Your channel and a couple of others were my inspiration to start my own channel. Posted my first video a couple of days ago. Have some questions. What video, audio, and editing tools do you use.? Also what app do you have to show real time route tracking? I and my wife live in Carmel IN and have access to some of the best trails in Indiana. We use the Sena helmets with intercom capability and they are a game changer. Appreciate any info or advice. Happy trails.
Thank you for your kind words! We have so much fun biking and putting these memory capsules together. I started with Camtasia video editing, but then they switched to a subscription format so I switched to open source blender- for now- unless they start charging. Camera- I just bought the cheapest on Amazon- no bells and whistles. They have some pretty crazy cameras though! The mapping is through google earth - you need to site source them in description if you use it.
Thank you for sharing! Hoping to go here soon.
It is a really fun trail! I hope you can!!!
Just recently found your channel while searching for ebike/trail riding videos and immediately subscribed. Well done. Great video and audio quality, camera angles, commentary, personal interaction and content. I and my wife live in Carmel IN and have access to some of the best trails in central Indiana (Monon, Midland Trace, Nickel Plate, Big 4 Rail Trail etc). Recently started my TH-cam channel and have some questions. What camera and audio equipment do you use? What app do you use to track ride in real time and what editing app do you use? Great video. I love the trail. I live in Middlebury and enjoy going to both Shipshewana and Goshen. As you come into Middlebury from Goshen you can see Buffalo on the south side. After the bridge that goes under Hwy 20 there is an option to go left on Ridge Run Trail. That will take you to Essenhaus which is a popular restaurant. Shipshewana has many shops to visit and the Blue Gate restaurant.
We missed the buffalo! Thank you so much for this great, additional information. This is a trail we will be able to do again, so we will have to add this on to the must do/see.
