      Thank you. To change the couplers it was pretty easy. Just unscrew the shell from the frame take it off. The couplers unscrew from the frame and unplug from the circuit board to take them off. Model comes with mounting pads for Kadee coupler so mounting is easy. Putting the shell back on is probably the hardest part cause it’s real tight to squeeze all those wires back into that tiny shell, but take your time you can do it.

  • @ralphmiller2265
    @ralphmiller2265 ปีที่แล้ว

    Wow! 4 chuffs/revolution certainly makes a difference from the original 2 chuffs (Why Lionel did that I'll never know.) I have this same model and of course it came from Lionel with a fan driven smoke unit which constantly blew, no chuffs and only 2 chuffs/revolution. I don't know if I would want this upgrade for mine or go all out for a Legacy upgrade.

    • @jdogaugemodeltrains522
      @jdogaugemodeltrains522 ปีที่แล้ว

      A legacy upgrade would be awesome. I think they still use the same tooling, so that would pretty much give you an equivalent of Lionel’s latest Challenger.

    • @ralphmiller2265
      @ralphmiller2265 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jdogaugemodeltrains522 Little at a time, I've been very fortunate to get Bruk Bannister to do a couple of upgrades for me. He upgraded my JLC C&O Allegheny and my B&O EM1 from 2000 both to full Legacy and they are great. I still like the John Will upgrades because they give you everything that Legacy does except for whistle steam and quilting whistle. Unfortunately it does not eliminate that TMCC lunge when you first start the loco up. I think an ERR board takes care of that. You did that with your loco and I'll bet it starts up much better.

    • @jdogaugemodeltrains522
      @jdogaugemodeltrains522 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ralphmiller2265 your Allegheny and EM1 must be pretty awesome. The ERR board did help with that tmcc lung. The only quirk I had with the ERR boards was when I powered my layout with a z4000. I have a tendency to move the handles slowly and when I was starting up operations it was sending these into conventional mode. I know that’s how they’re supposed to function but it drove me crazy because I only run in command mode. However I also had a ton of problems with newer legacy equipment running with the Z 4000. A lot of the Legacy locos wouldn’t run at all on my scale trax layout. I pulled the Z 4000 and put in a couple 180w Lionel bricks and all my issues went away.

    Outstanding engines Outstanding weathering I will gladly take either one off your hands 😉

  • @ralphmiller2265
    @ralphmiller2265 ปีที่แล้ว

    When it comes to putting ERR in a locomotive, though you can put the magnets on the tender wheels for the chuff/puff sync. I prefer to place the magnets (I have very thin ones) on a Locomotive wheel. I prefer this because I am a four chuff per revolution person. Now some tender wheels are half the diameter of the drive wheels and therefore, a couple well-placed magnets will do the trick. However, not all tender wheels are 50% proportioned with the drivers so you have to go with magnets on a loco driver for more accuracy. From this video, it sounds like the ERR sound is bigger, or fuller than the PS3 sounds. Of course Lionel is known for having the best sound system even thoug I think DCS is a better operating system over TMCC. Legacy is more of a match even though it is TMCC on steroids. I love the weathering you've done on these two locomotives. This is what I don't do because I don't feel I can do as good a job as what I see here or other professional artistic modelers can do. I'm not a great electronics person either but I've gotten pretty good at ERR installations. I would like however, to see a Sunset 3rd Rail Big Boy get a full Legacy upgrade, whistle steam and all. Now that would be an incredible model!!!
