Just a Kansas Boy
United States
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 9 ต.ค. 2021
Hello friends! Join me, a Kansas native, as I explore the rich histories and vibrant cultures of our world-one reaction at a time!
I'm Michael, a Midwesterner who has lived in the heartland of the USA all my life. Growing up, I thought I’d be content staying in rural Kansas forever. However, a 3-week trip through Western Europe during college was a transformative experience for me. The rich history and vibrant cultures I encountered changed my perspective on life, and now I'm hoping to travel the world to experience all it has to offer.
While I aspire to trek the globe one day, for now, I’ll be learning about other countries’ cultures and histories. At the same time, I’ll be sharing a bit about Midwestern culture with my viewers. Join me on this adventure as we learn together!
Feel free to send me an email if you have any questions or comments. I'd love to hear from you!

If you have Swedish heritage and want to know more about your ancestry you can apply to participate in the TV show "Allt för Sverige". Not ony the Sami people came from the north. Also blonde fair skinned people with brown eyes came from the north. They mixed with the dark haied and darkk skinned people with blue eyes which came from the south. They mixed and made the blond fair skinned people with ble eyes which Scandinavia is known for. About 70% of the land surface in Sweden is forrest. Thereis also significant farming areas. The main farming areas are Skåne, Östergötland, Västergötland and the area around lake Mälaren. The main battle in the war of independance was in my home town Västerås. It tok place in 1521. Independance was declared on June the 6:th 1523 during the riksdag in Strängnäs. (June the 6:th is our nationmal day). At the same time Gustav was made king and Sweden was also declared and inherited kingdom. The eldest son would inherit the crown from then. In 1527 there was a riksdag in Västerås. Sweden was then declared the first protestant country in the world. Which also meant that the king was now the head of the church (and all of it's riches). That came in really handy as Gustav Wasa had a lot of debt after the war of liberation.
I give you a thumbs up for trying to understand whats happening on the the content of the world!! You seem to understand more than the regular.

In Finland weather Report at summer: "Alavilla mailla hallanvaara." Some frost on lowlands
I love the back-story you give to this song. It really makes you understand the seriousness of the total war that was ongoing at that time in history.
It's funny how Gandalf and then Dumbledore were influenced by Kalevala😂❤
Hei ystävä!
Finland's civil war was fought in 1918, just months after we became independent in december 1917. Simo Häyhä fought in the Winter War, which was fought during the second World War, in 1939-1940.
When covid got to our world i traveled in Norway. It was hard to hit speed limit at my motorcycle... i traveled around 40 mph because i want to really see beauty of my country. With full load on my motorcycle, tent and all gear, i used 0.43 liter of gas per 10 kilometers. Normally, i use 0.48 with no load on my motorcycle...
I was there, near the front, and it was and still is one of my favorite and most cherished experiences. It was an unforgettable moment, standing there singing together with 14.000 people. ❤️

I believe Norwegians are 1 or 2 in the world when it comes to coffee. This guy is overdoing it a bit, but not always. We love Ikea, but its not all over the place
That was a nice and funny guy! I think it's boring with only shades of gray in the homes. I myself put in a plastic carpet in terracotta color and everyone who visits usually first points to the carpet then looks at me with wonder in their eyes. I love it!
He is right that it is a typical Norwegian home. There's a lot of IKEA to be found, but that's probably because they have good prices for furniture that can fit in anywhere, and combine with all styles, so it's a good place to start for young people. Slowly you change to more quality, like the table he pointed to. That table is probably the beginning of a more personal style than IKEA. Norwegians drink a lot of coffee. I think it's only the Finns who drink more than us, and that's probably since we're located so far north that we have to have hot drinks with caffeine to get through the winter. The Nordic countries are as far north as Alaska, but because of the Gulf Stream it is not as cold here, especially along the coast. It is also true that Norwegians are a sporty people. Despite a long, dark and cold winter, Norwegians are outside all year round. We even have our own word for spending a lot of time outside in nature; "Friluftsliv" which can be translated "Life outdoors", which is a concept for Norwegian lifestyle, and which includes everything from going on long trips, either on foot or on skis, sleeping in a tent, lighting a fire, fishing, cooking outside in nature, picking berries and mushrooms and using natural resources for spices, fuel, decorations, building materials and more. Norwegian homes are heated by electricity and firewood in winter, and the air can quickly become dry. That is why cacti and succulents fit well in Norwegian homes. They are also sculptural, which suits Norwegian style of decoration.
In my opinion IKEA furniture is overpriced and low quality, but somehow IKEA has succeeded in marketing.
Myself, I stopped at three minutes plus. This video doesn't seem to be worth a s**t. Why are there so many strange depictions of earlier Finnish history?

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow was also inspired by Kalevala poems and created “The Song of Hiawatha” in Kalevala meter.
Nice reaction.
good thought, but it is still hard to think about the next step if we all think like that.. (i dont mean in in a bad way, just its hard...)
Greetings from Sweden and a long time Sabaton fan. I've actually seen them live, i saw them before they got as huge as they are today. 🤘

As a Norwegian I think it would be awesome to visit kasnsas one day, having grown up western coast, in the fjords of Norway I have never really been far away from the ocean and I have never seen such a massive flat land like kansas, for me I think I would actually look at it and say wow
@Bubajumba that makes sense! It can definitely be breathtaking to see for miles and miles (or kilometers) from one spot. Especially during sunrise or sunset, or when there's a storm brewing. Hope you can visit someday!
I just found you as you reacted to one of my sabaton’s songs it’s so beautiful yet sad! Sabaton is a fantastic band! The Swedish singers are amazing @sabaton @tommy johansson @erik Grönwall and I’m Australian lol
Thanks for the reaction and your thoughts. Some years ago i read a story in a museum, about a man who left his home and his pregnant wife, as the army called for service. 18 years later, still in duty, he met is son for the first time. On a battlefield in nothern Germany. I dont remember the source of the story, whether it is based on letters, or somthing else more reliable than just beeing told over generations. Nor do I remember if any of the two soldiers returned home alive. Guess I have to go back to te museum some day and read it again.
When you hear personal stories like that, it really does make the impact of war so much clearer, doesn't it?
JJ. Tolkien copy largely from Kalevala. Why did he try to learn Finnish for 19 years?
Thanks so much, great video, also emotional to me ❣️ Sabaton is new to me. And brilliant one. I noticed that this band has also honoured the Finns with their song Winter War, Talvisota. And with the song “White Death” which is telling about Simo Häyhä, a sniper feared by the Russians. He shot at least 505 Red Army soldiers in the Winter War. Thank you Sabaton 🇫🇮❤️🇸🇪🇺🇸🙏🫡
I haven't heard of "Talvisota," I will have to check that one out!
Silarillion. Red it 40 yrs ago. Now re-reading scifi classics. Maybe the Nerd un me is alive 😅.

Every summer Finlands National Radio: "Alavilla mailla hallaan vaara." Meaning, Frost on low lands. Who knows...
Ooh, that flows so nicely! It's very poetic.
@@michael.adamyk Yes, and the second best is: "Kotka Rankki, ohutta yläpilveä". Meaning Kotka (town's name, meaning eagle) Rankki (former military island), thin high level cloud (Cirrosstratus). Finnish radio Sea weather forecast.
Always love reactions to this video in particular as I was in the crowd for that show. I didn't really "get" how powerful the sound of the crowds singing was until I saw it from this perspective, it was very different hearing it from down on the floor, in the middle of the crowd. I have two other favourite Sabaton anti-war songs you could check out. "The price of a mile" is an absolute CLASSIC, unfortunatly it doesn't have an official music video, just lyric videos and fan-creations. But they did a VERY lavish music-video for "The Christmas truce" if you haven't seen that one.
@kashk42 oh wow, that must have been an unforgetttable experience... and how neat that you can still watch it later, from the stage perspective instead! I'm very familiar with "The Christmas Truce," it's one of my favorites by them... but I haven't heard "Price of a Mile" yet. Sounds like a good one, thanks for the suggestion!
Thanks for your reaction 🇸🇪
and ppl in other countries say we never been in war. swedes had enough of it.
I had one arrogant american comment that we were pussies. I explained to him that weve had lots of wars against Russia and won more than half of them. Would he be inclined to share how many wars THEY'VE had against Russia? He didnt reply after that, which is a shame, because I was actually prepared to give him for winning the Cold war. But still that was only 1 war.
@cuffzter Yikes... he sure made a dumb comment. Glad you set him straight!
Sabaton actually encourages people to react to their music! They love it and they don't demonetize if I remember
That's so cool of them! When I emailed them to get permission, Pär Sundström responded and said, "Lots of people do it, and we're okay with it, so feel free!" Felt kind of like talking with a celebrity, haha!
@@michael.adamyk Hello. Lovley reaction as always 😊👍 I got an idea of what you should do if you feel like it! And that is to react to all Sabaton's songs in all the albums they have! What I mean is to go all in with Sabaton, Even if it will take time as you react to other music too!😊 But it makes absolutely nothing if it will take time if you decide to do this journey! I am sure you would have loved it and not regretted it! 😉 I want to recommend songs to you!😎 You can skip the ones you have already reacted to if you want! The valley of death Dreadnought Soldier of heaven Stormtroopers Steel commanders Kingdom come Defense of Moscow Fields of verdun A ghost in the trenches Great war official video Devil dogs 82nd all the way Seven pillars of wisdom All guns blazing The last battle Shiroyama 7734 Man of war Hearts of iron Killing ground The Carolean's Prayer Long live the king Metal ripper White death Coat of arms The final solution The price of a mile Cliffs of Gallipoli Metal Crüe Nightchild Back in control In the name of god Metal machine Purple heart Wolf pack Remember that it's perfectly okay to show emotions and cry when listening to music in reaction videos, etc. I love your channel ❤️ Sabaton has been my favorite band since they were formed 1999 in Falun here in Sweden!🇸🇪 Warm and kind greetings from a big Sabaton fan in northern Sweden (Västerbotten) 😎🇸🇪🇸🇪😎
@@michael.adamyk The songs I suggested are from different albums with Sabaton! You don't have to react to the songs you've already reacted to, Unless you want to of course! You decide! It should be fairly easy to find each album with accompanying songs on either TH-cam or Spotify! TH-cam should have all the videos for all Sabaton's songs! Animated, official videos etc! If you need help/tips, There are many of us in the comment field who can help you if you need help during this journey 😊 It will be very interesting to see and hear what you think of all their songs! If you do this journey!😊 And then when all the albums are finished, Please tell us which is your favorite album!😊🙏 Sabaton is also working on a new album! 😊 Warm and friendly greetings from Johan 😎🇸🇪🇸🇪😎
Swedish is really nice for singing ❤
Great reaction and thoughts!
Greetings from Sweden. Great reaction, and great to hear you got permission from Sabaton to react to their videos. I love it when a youtube reactor does some research and not just watch and depend on comments to understand. You will get comments either way, the "Sabaton army" is big and very active on youtube comments.
Well. Not surprising that he got permission. 😊 Since Sabaton really enjoys the react-community. Something that some people forget is that Sabaton is so much more than a baller metal-band. They're teachers, bards and lecturers who passionately teach us about both amazing stories of heroism and tales of the utter horrors of war, and they do so without taking sides, like the true teachers that they are. ❤ So ofc they like reactors, many of them introduce the message and tunes of theirs to audiences that probably would've never even heard of them otherwise. ❤️🤘🇸🇪🤘❤️
For context, Sweden actually re-gained independence from Denmark in 1523. What happened was that the three kingdoms of Denmark, Norway and Sweden combined into one, called the "Kalmar Union". It was controlled by the Danish royalty, and while it lasted for about 100 years, tensions were pretty high between Danes and Swedes for long stretches of that period. What finally prompted the Swedes to seek independence again was a combination of things, but when the Danish king Kristian II came to Stockholm to be crowned king of Sweden, things took a turn for the worse. There was supposed to be a party after the coronation ceremony, and lots of Swedish nobles were invited to attend. However, it was a trap. King Kristian II ordered about 100 nobles to be executed, with little to no reason, other than "he could". The king became known as "Kristian the Tyrant" in Sweden, and the event is known in history as the "Stockholm Bloodbath". (There is a recent movie about this, but it is highly innacurate and should be avoided.) The town square that hosted the masacre is still around today and these days hosts market stalls, but when you visit it, and, you think back to what happened over 500 years ago in the same spot....it hits differently. It is said that the whole square was covered in blood, and that it poured down the cobbled streets of old Stockholm, where the massacre took place. "The red wedding"-event in Game of Thrones was inspired by this historical massacre.
Oh, that's super interesting! I remember hearing about the Kalmar Union in a previous video but didn't quite understand it... you explained it very well, thank you! On that video people had commented about the long-standing rivalry between Sweden and Denmark, and how Sweden and Denmark have had the most wars against each other of any country, except maybe France and Britain? Hearing a story like that, I can understand why. So there was a lot of tension there for centuries, but now it's mostly like a "sibling" relationship, correct?
@@michael.adamyk We haven't actually fought since 1814, so going 200+ years of peace now. But that wasn't the historical norm... And all the nordics tease eachother, CONSTANTLY. I'd say the Danes get the worst of it though, on account of their language and that historically they were the top dogs most of the time.
@@michael.adamyk Indeed, these days it is a sibling rivalry between Denmark and Sweden. These 2 countries actually hold the record for most wars fought against each other, beating Britain/France with a fair margin.
@@vicolin6126 oh so Denmark/Sweden are the top two! Yep, looks like about 30-35 since the Middle Ages, depending on how you count them... Wow!
I'm fairly certain the Red Wedding wasn't inspired by this massacre, but rather the Glencoe Massacre long story short: the king that the Scottish highland clans supported fled to France for support, the English nobles told them "bend the knee or get fucked", and the MacDonalds of Glencoe were massacred by soldiers who stayed there for _2 weeks_ and lived with them, just to make an example out of them, because the highland clans only bent the knee after their king-in-exile said "if it keeps you alive, sure" it not only fits the "slaughter under trust" treason committed, but also because George himself is from the isles, meaning he'd be more familiar with this story if you want a deeper dive into this, Count Dankula has a video on this tragedy
As a swede, the first time I went to a Halloween party was in the very late 90's (1999), but it was not that common back then. Trick or treats became more common about 10 years later, and still today not on the level as in the US.
Great reaction brother, this song can be implemented at any time era, war, soldier or event. At the end of the day,a soldier is a soldier.War has been sucking for thousands of years.Maybe we learn from of our mistakes in the next.....idk.....2000 years or so? Us humans truly sux,js.
Yes, it's definitely a timeless song. We can hope that we'll learn...
Humans never learn 🥹
It is powerful. And so are you my guy!!
Thank you, my friend!
