10m Gin Marabou 2 Twin Tip and Foil
No-frills look at some water starts, foiling and twin-tipping with 10m Marabou 2 in ~6-12kt winds, to give some idea how the kite performs in these conditions. I really don't like giving wind speeds for the inland spots where I normally ride as they are wildly variable and the same windspeed can have very different power depending on time-of-day. With that said, there were many times when I was the only kite on the water when I was foilboarding with the 10m, and during my twin-tip session I was keeping up nicely with some other 15m kites on the water.

Gin Marabou 2 Water Relaunch
มุมมอง 1.5Kปีที่แล้ว
Here's a look at the relaunch ability of the 10m Gin Marabou 2 in winds ranging from ~6kts - 10 kts. I go through a couple different scenarios, ending with the kite landing Trailing Edge down in what I believe was less than 6kts - at which point I was not able to get to unstick from the water. It felt like ~6kts was about the limit for worst-case scenarios. With that said - above 10kts the rela...
Packing Up Gin Marabou 2 (or similar Single Skin/foil kite)
มุมมอง 1.6Kปีที่แล้ว
There's lots of methods out there for packing up your foil kite; I find this method of rolling the tips together and then throwing the bridles/pulleys across the center, towards the end of the folding, works well to keep everything clean and tangle-free for the next time you pull it out of the bag. As long as you are doing gentle rolls/folds and not forcing sharp creases, you really do not have...
6m Gin Marabou2 - Tree Skiing
มุมมอง 259ปีที่แล้ว
Really fun session on the 6m Gin Marabou where winds were consistently blowing in the 20kt range - that combined with endless firm ballroom powder allowed us to keep the pedal down and roll the dice through some treed sections. My buddy's GPS showed he put on over 50 miles in 3 hours, a pretty solid pace. Needless to say our legs were smoked by the end of the day. Such a good time.
6m Marabou hill climb
มุมมอง 139ปีที่แล้ว
Fun day doing some hill climbing with the 6m Gin Marabou 2. I love how quick the kite is and you can really carry a lot of speed with it on the down hills. This particular day winds were in the high teens lower down down probably maxing out under 30mph at the top and in the gusts. I felt like I still had a lot of top end left on the 6m - I think you'd rarely need a smaller size than the 6m for ...
8m Gin Marabou 2: Ride Up Mountains
มุมมอง 545ปีที่แล้ว
Really fell in love with the 8m Gin Marabou 2 on a recent excursion into the mountains. I love the speed and gruntiness of the kite for looping up mountains, but it also depowers well making for really quick descents that don't feel like they are dragging you downwind. It also has a really fun lift and pop profile. Overall just a great, great size with a ton of wind range. For me at 195 lbs, I ...
4m Gin Marabou 2 Snow Session and Safety Release

Here's a look at the 4m Gin Marabou on snow - a little bit of everything from kiteskiing to kite sledding (1:28),and a look at how the kite flags out in higher winds (2:50), as well as my standard packup procedure (3:20). I'd say winds were in the 20's (mph). I kept some footage of a collapse in there at :48 (this was in the wind shadow of a large nearby tree), to kind of show the behavior of t...
10m Gin Marabou 2 Snowkiting
มุมมอง 5302 ปีที่แล้ว
Got to take the 8 and 10m Marabou out in some freezing fog - snow was great, but visibility left a little to be desired. With that said, it was a nice test in some legitimate snow conditions. Winds were 10-12 kts. 8m was a little underpowered, but the 10m was definitely in its element. Great power and nice float off of rollers. I found I could bleed off speed nicely and edge upwind well when I ...
8m Gin Marabou 2 on Snow(?)
มุมมอง 8602 ปีที่แล้ว
I wouldn't call it the best snow ever, but it was fun! The Marabou2 is going to be an exceptional snowkite. Biggest things to stick out are how smooth the kite is with no sense of fluttering, typical singleskin stability and ease-of-use, but also SPEED. And efficiency. This particular spot sits right at the base of some mountains, so tends to have really gusty winds and is a great place to test...
Gin Marabou 2 vs Single Skin
มุมมอง 2.3K2 ปีที่แล้ว
Join me and my friend waxing philosophic about various kites, with his first impressions of the Gin Marabou 2. He spends the majority of the winter flying single skins (Peak 4's and Gin Shaman). We talk a little bit about his 1st impressions, as well as conduct a some side-by-side ballet of the 8m Peak 4 and Marabou. 2:00 8m's side-by-side 3:17 10m review
Gin Marabou 2 in Gusty Conditions
มุมมอง 1.1K2 ปีที่แล้ว
A look at the 4m Marabou 2 in gusty conditions. This particular wind direction has the winds coming over a nearby treeline, so its notoriously blustery and rotoring - great conditions for checking the stability of the kite. Something I always look for too is when a collapse does occur (which ultimately will happen in the mountains, no matter what kite you're on), how easily and safely does it r...

Available at coloradokitesports.com. Quicklook and First Impressions of the 8m Gin Marabou 2 in some lighter, inconsistent winds. The 8m stands out as having a great combination of speed, power and snappy turn - I think it is going to be a highly versatile size both on water and snow. Looking forward to getting this beautiful beast into the mountains for some snowkiting, hopefully soon.

Gin Spirit vs Little Cloud Pelican
มุมมอง 1.3K3 ปีที่แล้ว
Side-by-side comparison of 12m Spirit and 13m Pelican. I've had quite a few folks ask what the differences are between these two kites, and after spending quite a bit of time on both, I thought I'd share my observations. Two great kites that in my view have pretty different design goals. The Spirit is a Big-Air Machine, while the Pelican places more emphasis on backcountry/mountain riding acces...

i use a zeppelin knot
What size bar are you using? It looks like you’re only using the inner bag, but I’ve seen in other videos that the inner bag is a bit short. I’m getting a Marabou 2 10m and will be using a 55cm PKS Kiss bar dedicated to it. Will that work with the inner bag?
👌👌
8 years later I'm still using your knot Nate!😅
I snapped my sport kite line the other day and have been looking for good knots to repair it. After watching this video, i used similar parameters and found the blood knot. I haven't had a chance to fly again but it seems to follow a similar idea as this one, and it is easier to remember.
Thanks for the video. Can you suggest the realistic wind range for foiling with the 10m and 8m? Thanks Drew
How do you pack this Hybrid kite, with the small stringers to form its shape, without damaging them?
Packing The Marabou is like any other single skin kite that has stringers such as the Peak or Shaman. As long as you don't tightly pinch or crease the battens, they will spring back to their original shape just fine. I have had no issues.
All that money for a tampon with strings 8/12 for me UFO v2 9mm iam gone one thing you got right kiss carbon bar any lower in wind Beach start foiling or dock foiling good luck with flyshit
This post looks familiar, perhaps I've seeing your similar post in other Marabou videos. You got some personal beef with foil kites? Can't just enjoy UFO?
I was thinking of buying the Gin Marabou 2 for low wind conditions on water as well as snowkiting (Alps). I weigh 70kg. Do you think the 10m is the best option or are there concerns I will be too overpowered on snow?
10m to big... choose 8m I am 90kg and can foil in about 8knts even lower with good techique
What bar are you using? It looks very minimalist and quite wide.
Where was this?
Lake McConaughy, Nebraska
It is really great to finally see some footage of this kite. Hard to find on TH-cam. I think this looks like the ultimate option for low wind kite without going to a massive traditional foil kite. I am from CO but moved to a beachy destination that has light winds and looking for a light wind foil kite. What are your thoughts about the 10m vs 12m? My instinct is to immediately go to the 12m because it is such light winds here. If winds really pick up, I would just switch to my LEI kite. Any opinion?
It would depend a little on your weight, but for most folks - espieally if you are using it for light wind foiling - Id recommended the 10. Its a little more nimble and will penetrate better upwind as the winds pick up a bit. I honestly haven't tried the 12 yet for lightwind twintipping, but felt like I was getting another knot -maybe two- on the low-end when on foil. The 12 is slower but has grunt in spades. It will top out in speed sooner though.
@@coloradokitesports6671 yeah, I’m in conditions where I will have steady winds at 5-6kts for days at a time. If I can kite in that condition, it would increase my time in the water by 40-50% if I was really so inclined. I realize everyone prefers the smaller kites for (1) wind range and (2) kite performance, but I’m specifically trying to get something to replace what many others in the area will use like 18m+ foil kite and if condition really pick up, I can switch to other kites that handle higher winds better 🤷🏼♂️
@@Freebts007 If you are talking about foilboarding - yes you should be able to make that work pretty easily. But for twin-tipping I think you will still be out of luck. Hope that helps.
Amazing to see it in action on water. How much wind was it during the twintip session?
I think probably 10-12 kts
Impressive light wind relaunches. I wanna see wave eat marabou, n then try relaunch next 😂
Yeah, I'll have to wait for someone on the coast to do that - our waves don't get that big out here, lol. With that said, once the trailing edge is completely swamped, its effectively the equivalent to getting washed over. I've been able to launch the kite with it sitting in the water for a couple of minutes, so I think its doable for the wind ranges where you'd typically have waves.
@coloradokitesports6671 if your ever near lake Michigan Sept - October come demo some Gin n I'll bring the waves and hospitality
Clean pack up technique!
Thanks Chris! Yeah, works pretty well.
cool 😉
Just picked up the newer version used. Partly to snowkite with. What’s your weight?
Sweet video! what zone is this?
Hey Nick! This is down by Snow Mesa
epic! Where is this? And what date did you kite it?
Red Mountain Pass, near silverton. Amazing area!
What bar is that?

Never seen grass ski 😂
Damn my fly surfer hybrid flatters like crazy. It doesn’t seem like this one does it
No, there is barely any flapping on the Marabou. It definitely helps make it a bit faster than other single skins/hybrids.
@@coloradokitesports6671 yes I saw. I seems like this kite is faster than the hybrid I have but I would have to see them side by side. Hope mine will last 😂
I got fly surfer for foiling! Best kite ever. I never owned any kite other than my inflatable.
What would you say the10m low end limit would be for kite foiling on a surf type setup? EG moses onda?
I'm not familiar with that setup, but for reference, a beginner foiler, 180lbs with this being his foil kite was riding in 6-9kts using the Slingshot Hover Glide Space Skate front wing.
Radness.
straight up grasskiting :D
Drive it like you stole it.
I saw your test with the Peak and Marabou and noticed that the Marabou spins faster. It looks like this kite is doing really well, even if there is little snow at the moment, it looks like a lot of fun 🤙🏼🤙🏼🤙🏼🤙🏼
where is the snow
I ask myself the same question. La Nina weather patterns tend to be bad for snow in a lot of Colorado, but hopefully that will change soon.
Really looking forward to your report on twintipping with the 10! That’s the last piece of the puzzle for me as far as getting a real world report! Really appreciate you posting up your experiences with the Marabou2!
@@jeffschake6801 terrible news - I have to cancel my trip, so won't be able to test the 10m on water; however I have a customer whose been twin-tipping with it and here is some of their feedback (feel free to contact me and I can get you more info): Today I rode at the sandbar off Marblehead (across from Cedar Point amusement park in Sandusky Ohio, western end). Anyhow, the base wind was 15 mph-ish with a few gusts rolling in above 20. I rode my 10 M Soul, the 10 M Marabou and my 12 M Flysurfer Speed 4. The winds were stronger in the morning and I was on my 10M Soul. Later in the day I switched to my 12 Speed 4, I had trouble getting upwind but could maintain my line, in the gusts the 12M was just fine. I then put up the 10M Marabou (aka stump puller). No surprise that it turned quicker than the 12, but I was honestly a bit surprised that it pulled harder and I was able to get upwind a bit easier than the 12M. I tried jumping in a few gusts, let's just say chop hopping was easier than sending the kite to jump for me. Oh I almost forgot, I was making the 10M Marabou work when the three other adult kiters were on 14s and 15s and not doing any better or worse than me on the Marabou. I'm 160, the 90 pound 12 year old with us was riding a 10M Razor...Yes pretty happy with the kite for light wind twin tipping!! :-)
Hi, is the depower much like the peak 5 kites. thanks
In what way are you referring? (fwiw, I haven't ridden the Peak5, only Peak4)
@@coloradokitesports6671 Does it have a lot of depower like the peak 4? thanks
Yes, depower is quite good. It depowers more in the sense that it will sit further to the edge of the wind window and allow you to penetrate upwind better. Because it is cleaner and doesn't flutter as much, it moves faster through the wind window and I might keep a little more power in a surge than a Peak (probably more like the Peak4 than Peak 5), but still dumps power well, and has more of the depower sensation of a single skin kite than a traditional open cell or closed cell twinskin kite. The other thing I've noticed you have most or all of your depower within the bar throw range, although the depower isn't quite as binary as a Peak 4. Overall, very happy w/ the depower of the kite; I had the 4m in some really gusty winds with large power spikes, and it dumped power really well and resisted invert/collapses, even when fully depowered.
Been very interested in real world reviews of this kite. I heard from someone who tested the 10 in Hood River that it had plenty of power to twintip on! I’m looking for a lightwind foil and snowkite option. Please, when you can, test the 10 and comment on its windrange vs the 8. Not sure what the wind was in this test but it looked like that 8 had you cookin’ along just fine!
@@jeffschake6801 I had the 10 m out on snow yesterday in the neighbor's field, and it is impressive. The thing I keep coming back to is just how well the kites do at going upwind versus a normal single skin. The 10 meter has a lot of power and I can tell it's going to be my light wind kite of choice for Mountain snow kiting this winter. They fly much cleaner than previous single skins, and allow you to carry more speed. They are not going to have the real big air boosting power of something like a Gin Spirit or FS soul, but they still have some fun lift. I plan on twin-tipping with them over Christmas and will report back, but for lighter wind snowkiting and foiling, you will not be disappointed. Still got a couple 10's remaining - ping me at coloradokitesports@gmail.com, and I can get you hooked up!
I love my Peak kites. The new Hybrid relaunches better than inflatables. The Soul rocked the free ride foil kite world in 2018. Flysurfer is blazing trails!
👍
Kite buggier from Texas and want to buy myself a Christmas gift, I'm one of your subscribers.
Hi Michael! This would make a great Christmas Gift, for sure! Contact me through info@coloradokitesports.com and we can get you hooked up!
How much?? Do es the 8 m cost??
hello @michaelmckelvy9165 - visit my website at coloradokitesports.com or email me at info@coloradokitesports.com for prices and info.
Would you recommend the 8m or the 10m for an all around kite for both snow and water?
It depends a bit on your weight and normal wind conditions, but the 10m will be better if you normally ride in lighter winds.
What do you think would be the low end for the 8m for kite foiling for a 175lbs rider on ? And the absolute kitefoiling lowest end in whatever size would work best? 4-7kts range accessible?
There are a lot of factors that go into absolute bottom-end wind range, such as hydrofoil wing size, rider skill, quality of the wind, etc; but if you are really trying to capture the 4 knot range I would be looking at the 10 or the 12. Check out Derek 440's videos - he's been doing a lot more kitefoiling and also probably be able to give you some feedback.
Do you think this kite would be good as a first foil/single-skin kite? I've only ever flown LEI's, but I'm interested in the Marabou or Hybrid for lightwind days foiling.
Yes, I think the Marabou would make a good first foil/ single skin. I found the handling to be quite easy and straightforward. Both the 10 and 12m have a lot of power for lightwind kiting/foiling. Let me know if you need one!
3:50 How often that kind of stuck happens? And what do think about Instict H.B. kite, are you going to try any of those?
Sorry, can you explain when you say, "get stuck happens"? The instinct HB is a really nice kite - very different from Marabou. The Instinct is more focussed on free-race, so is very fast and efficient, with tons of lift and hangtime.
@@coloradokitesports6671 The blue line stucks into depower system, shows up 3:52 and 3:55 you have released it. Are you going to make a video about Instinct? There are too few videos about it. 😉
Oh I understand now - this is my own home made lightweight bar that I use for snowkiting, but not often. I'm always experimenting with new safety systems 😄
Thanks, finally proof of the existence of Marabou2! Pretty quick for an 8m too, you feel a difference to Peak4? I like the bar, is that Gin too or self constructed?
I flew the 8m peak4 briefly a long time ago, but by Recollections I think the Marabou may have a little more power and be a touch more responsive. Obviously a lot less fluttering. I have a buddy who rides the 8 m Peak extensively, and I'm going to try to get him on the Marabou soon for comparison.
And sorry I forgot to mention - that is a home-made bar (but I love it!).
I have been using Peaks from day 1 of the Peak1-3-4, first as a snowkite, and then 3 years ago as a foiling kite. I hesitated on the peak 5 with the hopes that it would be this hybrid. I hope FS did not make the Hybrid too tame and compromise on performance. Sounds like Marabou would sut me better at this point, but I have never actually tried one. Look forward to objective flight testing and comparison to the Peaks, such as size:power, comparative turning speed, drift/stall, depower , and overpower characterists (flapping, stabiltiy, etc). Hope you can use them in real conditions soon!
Hey there, great work! How are made the winders?
You're certainly having some fun on that thing! Any chance you can share some info on the locations?
Well done. Thanks!
There are only 2 manufacturers which I would buy Softkites from.. Flysurfer and Ozone. Tbh the Gin is a solid kite but it overturns when looping.. even in stronger winds. I would never recommend this kite for water but for snowkiting. The danger of overturning is there. The kite could sheet up right through the powerzone to 12 and drag you downwind. Thats not cool.
I made this knot for my kite string three years ago. Just flew it today and it held up great even to gusts.
Bar works. Good job
@ Colorado Kite Sports: Which kite is the best for snowkiting (in Size near 10qm) in your opinion? How good is Montana X in 10qm?
I personally prefer the Pelican for Snowkiting particularly if I am in the mountains or gustier conditions. The 10m Montana is also quite nice although I see the Pelican2 as an improvement on the Montana X (same designer - the Pelican was designed after the Montana) You might enjoy reading my review of the Pelican which you can find here, which compares it to Montana X: www.coloradokitesports.com/review-pelican2.html
