Padres and Marlins Complete BIGGEST Trade of The Season!!!
Utah has been the fastest growing state since 2010. The wasatch front has a population of 2.6 million people and quickly growing. They have great support for their nba and mls teams. And will heavily support their nhl team. They have a very young and very healthy population with expendable income. They also have 2 successful big12 teams close to each other. The mlb and nfl would be insane not to move into this market for its potential growth and proven fan support.
@@alexlarsen2464 I really agree with this. I think MLB needs to beat the NFL to this market. You have to strike now to win over the fan base.
If he would have played during the war years, his stats would be questioned and dismissed just like they were for guys like Hal Newhauser.
@@gordonzill173 all depends on if it was just him that stayed or all ballplayers.
A word about Babe Ruth. He was a pitcher his first few years, only moving to an every-day position around 1919 and played there for the last 2 years of the dead-ball era. Imagine if he played his whole career not as a pitcher, and if the 1920 reforms of pitching had occurred in 1914. Purely hypothetical , but still- what if? OTOH, Ruth and his heavy bat never faced a major league slider…
@@martinjohnson5498 there are a lot of what is when it comes to Ruth. As you said he lost time as a hitter and also the dead ball Era. He also never played in MLB against Negro League players. I would love to do a video on this, but it's hard to put the what if into numbers for Ruth. Thanks for the view and comment

Not arguing w your system, but if you look at the little bit Ted played in 1952 & 1953, he absolutely raked even by his standards. If you prorate his 1952-53 numbers to 154 game season, he'd be at 50 HR 130 RBI each. He put up a 1.400+ OPS in the 43 games he played in those 2 seasons.
@@haedyncavanagh thanks for the idea. It'll help with future videos. I was thinking that, but with a sample size someone could argue it was a hot streak and not sustainable. With Williams he probably could have sustained it though
Your alignment is exactly what I think would happen. Colorado & Tampa are going to have to flip leagues. Colorado being with KC and the Texas teams makes a nice tight little Mid-South division, and Tampa being with other geographically southeast teams works out perfectly as well.
@@immortalkombatant I'm glad I met your standards. I think it would make for some terrific division battles
Well said and kudos to an American icon. Ted Williams, what a player and American! Now , as a Yankee fan I often ask the same question about the great Lou Gehrig,,,, what if ?????
@@edtoth4676 thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed it. I think that's certainly a fair question to ask about Gehrig as well. I guess the difference is Gehrig lost years at the end of his career. Even at age 35 he was still incredible

@@richbursary9053 fair enough, but attendance has been solid across the league for 2 straight years (except Oakland of course) . It's not a sport that requires a huge attendance every game to make it work.
As someone that has grown up in Tennessee, I believe you will have to make a Nashville team a part of the American league. Most of Tennessee is covered in Braves or Cardinals fans, and the only way that you could pull allegiance from those teams as if they were part of a separate league.
@@mivin911 that's fair. Thanks for the insight. I would hope a new team in the area could potentially lead to some change of allegiance
This is always debatable. If he played without any injuries. I'd say he would've hit 700. Home Runs. At least 500 more walks. Definitely 3000 plus hits. it would been great to see. I salute Ted Williams for his Service. Always in my opinion. The Best Hitter.

Great video, I loves me some Teddy Ballgames. One point, you might have to shave off a season or two on the back end of his career. 5 extra seasons of wear and tear would have an effect.
@@christopherbrowne977 thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed it! I will have to consider that in future videos. I always worry about it when you have guys like Albert Pujols doing unreal in a final season
That was pretty well thought out. Ted volunteered for WWII but he didn't want to go to Korea and was pissed when he was called up for that one. I never could get my head around him losing the MVP vote in 1941 after hitting .406. Yeah, DiMaggio had that hitting streak but the last man to hit .400 + isn't the MVP? That always seemed like a rip-off to me. Ted had some quirks though that didn't endear him to the writers. And another thing I can't get my head around is Ted's head being frozen. Bit of a strange case. But I did like the response he gave to reporters when he was managing the old Washington Senators and they wanted to know what he was going to do about their lousy defense. "We're gonna hit." Typical Ted, hitting cures all ills. Anyway, cool vid. Nice to see a young man who doesn't suffer from recency bias when it comes to evaluating ballplayers. Good on ya.
@@itinerantpatriot1196 thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed it. I love all the old time baseball stories. I enjoy the advanced game, but can certainly appreciate the class and pure joy from older players in the way they played. Williams certainly deserved more awards and recognition even with how good he was.
One other point that's pertinent is the person of Ohtani. Despite what we think, Ohtani will likely win the MVP because of his marketing value - both internationally and as MLB's top cumulative earner. He's too important, recognizable, and easily the hardest player to replace. Baseball really needs him (and his team, by extension) to greatly succeed.
@@thomasjoseph3488 I agree and as you know shared videos on that. With all the media push I thought his numbers were far beyond belief. Clearly looking at Marte and guys in the past this is not true. It's just channels like ESPN that want it to happen
No doubt in my mind that the powers want Ohtani and the Dodgers to succeed. Hate to sound "tinfoil." @@3up3down
DH should stay with triple crown only not mvp since in baseball defence/pitching is the key role to win, not offence.
@@keizomatsuzaki I seriously hope a DH doesn't win
Well, defensive skills are undervalued in MVPs. Other than the occasional super dominant pitcher, it's an offensive award.
I throw my hat in with no DH MVP, just as with pitchers. Your arguments are cogent, especially juxtaposed with high skilled positions (shortstop, catcher). I know the DH ship has sailed, but for full disclosure, I'd eliminate it if I were the king of baseball. 😂
@@thomasjoseph3488 I appreciate the comment. I'm OK with a pitcher if they are far and above. I had no problem with Verlander winning in the past, but they have to just dominate
I'll never understand where they get Salt Lake and its population from. It's like the 30 miles north of Salt Lake doesn't exist. Salt Lakes' true population within about a 45-minute radius is 2.8 million people.
@@dcjohnson7615 I think it comes from what they do with other mlb cities. Others have the population closer in. I'm no expert, but feel like Salt Lake has the population close enough to it. Especially if they really market to the whole state.
@@3up3downjust a tip you want to use “combined statistical area”. You can do a quick google search and find the Wikipedia article showing the list. It will also show why it’s a much better method to determine population. Metro areas are terrible statistic because they can be massive or pretty small. The wasatch front in Utah is one big city of close to 3 million but two metro areas. They used to be one but randomly decided to split them about 29 years ago. So CSA is the statistic you want.

If Charlotte can't get an expansion team they could always make a run at luring the White Sox away from Chicago.

The Marlins had to blow the team up. They weren't getting anything done with that player core. Their best chance to do anything was 2023, and that was a unicorn year. Keeping the band together wasn't going to do anything but put mediocrity on a pedestal, and something needed to change. All you need to do is look at the Marlins drafting, developing, and trade record from 2018 to 2023. They did nothing right on those fronts. It's going to be a painful next few years, but I think they did the right thing. Instead, the 3rd down should've been the Rockies. There's nothing like a team projected to lose 111 games that does nothing at the trade deadline. At least the Marlins got back a large package of prospects with serious upside. The Rockies flat out didn't do anything. That's worse than a fire sale. At least the fire sale helps the team in the long haul, even it comes with the following painful rebuilding years.
@@GaIeforce I can go with that. The issue I take with the Marlins is they do this every time they have any success. Trying to actually build a sustainable winning team would be nice to see. At least they do occasionally win. The Rockies just seem to accept mediocrity now. Although outside of maybe trading Ryan McMahon they have no real talent to trade.
@@3up3down I get that, but their success in 2023 was a fluke. They got by with an unsustainable model, and all you have to do is look at their underlying metrics. They can't hit, they can't field, they aren't good baserunners, and they were entirely carried by career years from their rotation and their bullpen. I've watched nearly every game and they werre as embarrassing to watch as it was unbelievably fun. I'm glad they shattered the 20 full season postseason drought, but I saw them as an early exit team in the playoffs before the playoffs began. That was their peak. It hurts having to blow it up after just reaching the postseason, but this is what a team has to do when they trade Christian Yelich for 4 players all of whom produced a negative fWAR. This is what happens when a team trades J.T. Realmuto for damaged goods, floatsam, and jetsam. This is what happens when a team drafts JJ Bleday over CJ Abrams, Josh Jung, Corbin Carroll, and Anthony Volpe. This is what happens when a team drafts Jacob Berry over Brooks Lee. This is what happens when a team drafts Noble Meyer over Kyle Teel. Those mistakes all add up, and this is the culminating result.
@@GaIeforce all of those past results is why I am scared for Marlins fans at this deadline. The catcher from the Yankees looks promising. The prospects from the Padres are ranked highly for that system, but none are having a particularly good year. Snelling can't seem to find the plate consistently. I really hope for the sake of the organization they can develop some more. I guess the next question is how long until Alcantara and Luzardo are healthy enough to be traded. Maybe it will be Eury Perez leading the next race for the playoffs
@@3up3down They've since gutted the scouting director and the backing GM behind the transactions of 2018-2023, so all we can do as fans is hope that Peter Bendix & Frank Pilliere do a better job at evaluating talent than DJ Svihlik and Gary Denbo did. I do like Agustin Ramirez and Deyvision De Los Santos, and Kyle Stowers and Connor Norby was a sneaky grab for a pitcher who hasn't had elite production in 3 years and would have likely gotten non-tendered, so that's at least a good start.

It would be easy enough to do but I would like you to do it because you have a better following than I do.
@@bryanjones4444 I hope to do more of these styled of videos. I will certainly add Willie Mays to that list. I'm curious as to what those numbers would look like. I typically do this style of video during the mlb off-season when less is going on. Thanks for the idea

Good points. I was surprised the Astros stayed pat, but that FO doesn't miss too much. As for the Marlins, it's understandably tough for long-time fans given history, but Bendix is methodical in his plans. Is he baseball's next Boy Wonder?
