I like the idea of trading picks. It is standard practice in other leagues so why not MLB. It would allow teams to load up more on rental players at the deadline, and would make that much more interesting. Honestly though I do not think that you can create a big of build up as the other 3 of the Big four leagues so a very simple reason. In the other leagues (NHL, NBA, and NFL) there is a very good chance that you are going to see the top 10 or so picks being starters the next season or seeing significant time playing. You can build the hype around that, especially of you are the team drafting in the top 10. With MLB and their development system, you are looking at 2+ years, for the most part, before the players drafted this season are going to be seen in an MLB game. It is hard to build up hype when most fans are not going to be able to see these players in an MLB uniform for that long.
@@LorneWilson-b8m agreed the need for 2+ years of development certainly holds back the build up in te MLB draft. Skenes and Langford are huge exceptions to the pattern
Always loved the draft on mlb network since I first watched Mike Trout draft. It sucked on ESPN other then Jeff Passan. But mlb network was still better
@@3up3down the way we develop pitching I feel like that’s part of why the royals said they are happy to let em keep pitching is because they know he will only be a hitter after our guys get their hands on em
Great video! Really well explained 👍
@@fourpaws_21 thanks! Glad you enjoyed it!

Happening less and less. The league is calling guys up younger now. Not just Skenes. Although it was very fast for him
@@amonrodriguez3518 I think it's improvements in the college development helping. Plus younger guys are cheaper.

@@amonrodriguez3518 ha that may be true. The potential is all in that bat
I think the MLB should try to model the draft more like the NFL does, I say scrap the lottery and allow any picks to be traded
@@whitbierschwale7099 I don't mind the lottery, but I really want the trading of picks
