    My work actively resists my efforts to complete it. I’m expected to supply my own materials and purchase them from my pay check without additional compensation. Society constantly jokes about how low my salary is, while criticizing my efforts. I often work 12 or more hours per day and take my work home to complete in the evenings and on weekends. Many of my colleagues also work 2nd or even 3rd jobs to make ends meet. The standards upon which I am judged change constantly and are often set by people with no experience in my field, yet the standard pay in my industry hasn’t increased in 30 years-even to account for inflation. Apparently, the obligatory 2 months’ unpaid time off is part of the compensation package and I should be grateful. I face insults, mockery, watch my belongings be destroyed out of spite, and I am often told that these things are my own fault because clearly, I’m not good enough at my job. If I express concerns about the situations I find myself in, I’m told to deal with it and again, insulted for my efforts. As you might guess, burnout is extremely common-most college graduates last 5 years or less before switching careers. Those people are mocked for having insufficient drive and passion for the work. Apparently “making a difference” is meant as a fair substitute for paying one’s bills or having one’s career take over a person’s entire life and personality. Can you figure out what I do?

    Wouldn’t it be great if an employee could set a reasonable boundary with a supervisor and not be retaliated against?

    • @TaraKermiet
      @TaraKermiet 27 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Boundaries shouldn’t lead to retaliation, but when they do, it’s a sign of a toxic culture. If boundaries are consistently ignored, it might be time to rethink whether the system aligns with your values and well-being.

      That’s wild! It’s creating such a bad culture where employees are more focused on vanity metrics instead of the meaningful work.

    Thank you so much for this message. Hearing someone articulate these complex emotions ( feeling misaligned,unsupported, undermined) was incredibly validating. I now understand better that burnout is not about the volume of work only but the emotional and psychological toll of feeling unsupported, constantly diminishing and unsafe. Thanks for your advice and kind words on how to start overcoming this, it gave me so much hope ❤

      Thank you so much for sharing this! I'm so glad the message resonated with you. Burnout is so much deeper than just the workload, and acknowledging that emotional and psychological toll is such an important step. I’m rooting for you as you start building your support squad to reclaim your balance and well-being.

    Good, provable, logical information. Unfortunately so many bosses do not get it, and more than that, don’t WANT to get it.

    • @TaraKermiet
      @TaraKermiet หลายเดือนก่อน

      You're absolutely right-some leaders resist change, even when the evidence is clear. That's why it’s so important to focus on building cultures where autonomy and trust are the norm and to focus on what you can control in those situations.

      It sure is. I’ve been there. I worked hard at figuring out what I could control and when it got too much for that, I had to look at whether it was a place where I could thrive and grow.

    Yup often feel useless about a job I like, fun people, and usually fun work to do, but when the day ends, I come home and get depressed for seemingly no reason, I feel useless and like I'm repeating my weeks.

    • @TaraKermiet
      @TaraKermiet หลายเดือนก่อน

      This could be for a lot of reasons. But I wonder if you’re able to maximize using your strengths with the work you’re doing? Or are there things lurking in the conditions and culture of your workplace that might be impacting you?

      @TaraKermiet It's more a problem that comes with ADHD, and also my family is not very ADHD friendly, even tho my older brother was Diognosed with it, he quickly grew out of it. They never really learned how to get along with someone that has ADHD. And I gotta say my work friends are the only thing that keep me from quitting everything

    For those of us that able to multiplity tasking. You have to be able see the whole picture and push things with the highest priority. If your in management you learn to spread it out over several people so they aren't overwhelmed. Working with the public is one of those areas that requires handling more then one problem at a time. That can be anyone in health, law enforcement or just a person in a grocery store or a Walmart.

    • @TaraKermiet
      @TaraKermiet หลายเดือนก่อน

      You're right-working with the public often requires juggling priorities and delegating effectively. In the video, I focus on how multitasking can reduce effectiveness when we try to do too many high-focus tasks at once. I'd love to hear more about your approach to balancing it all.

    Your first view, your first comment, I know how difficult it is to start something new, trust and enjoy the process and take it one step at a time, especially if this is something you are passionate about or something that you consider to be part of your purpose. I definitely have burnout.... but I do eat well and properly, exercise regularly,drink water etc and try to get enough sleep, but it's just that at 47, I have been doing this work life balance thing for a long time, so early mornings and long 5 day weeks, really burn you out..........

    • @TaraKermiet
      @TaraKermiet 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you for the encouragement! 🫶 I'm glad to hear that your basic needs are taken care of. I always start there with burnout recovery, because getting into the deeper work will do no good if we don't start at the foundational level. Sounds like you've been in burnout for a while now, which I get. If you're ready for a change, it might be time to really explore the systemic changes that could help you climb out of it like energy management, values alignment, career crafting, etc. I'd be happy to talk with you more about this whenever you're ready. Take care of yourself!

    Wow not sure if you read my mind today, was feeling so so down after attending a recognition session at work and for the longest time I'm not part of the list, to think I spend 10+hours working, I really feel rejected

    • @TaraKermiet
      @TaraKermiet 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I’m sorry, I know that sucks. It’s hard to put in so much effort and not see the recognition you hoped for. Just remember, the value of your hard work isn’t defined by a list or a ceremony. It’s the dedication and impact you’ve made that really matter. Your time will come. And when you’re ready for it, maybe have a conversation with your boss or a trusted colleague about why you weren’t on the list this year. This could give you some insights into areas of growth for the coming year.
