As a rockhound most can't tell between cherts and flynts, But knappers seem to know, cherts are found in sedimentary layers, limestone. Flynt is formed in chalk, chalk walls and such. same thing other than that. Well I guess the texture of flynt and its fracture is best for knapping.

Thanks for sharing your trip. Before the pandemic, I traveled to the Flint ridge knap-in every fall and sometimes in the spring. I visited Nethers farm a couple of times over the years and, as a knapper, I always felt like a kid in a candy store. I still have some of the flint from those trips. Ed Moreland, a good friend and expert flint knapper, is one of three people in Ohio who are experts at heat treating Nethers flint. I always buy a few pieces from Ed when he has them to sell. Thanks again!

I grew up in Mineola Missouri about two miles from Graham cave. I'm 78 years old. When I was a young boy from about the age of eight you could block the field and find arrowheads everywhere by the bushel basket full. There's an ancient Flint mine I found as a boy. Back in 67 there was still an Indian Mound built of Flat Rocks 20 yards from the mine. Unfortunately somebody uncover the stones and pillaged that mound in about 1970. I'm an avid flintknapper and have been for 40 years. the point of the story is. this Flint Quarry was such a sacred place a chief was buried there. I thoroughly enjoyed this video kudos

Kelly Stephens you can't turn limestone into flint. limstone is calclium carbonate, flint is a silica that replaces the limestone sometimes . two different chemicals entirely. But flint often occurs as nodules in limestone formation, so if you burn away the limestone, you might find bits of flint inside of it, at the cost of destroying that flint's quality and usefulness for making anything short of gunflint.
