Ridge Gaps & Sea of Clouds - Hiking Goryu & Kashimayari 🇯🇵
Hiking Mount Goryu and Mount Kashimayari offers great mountain experiences from beautiful ridge views to exciting ridge gap traverses. If the weather is great then you are in for a treat. One of the most famous natural phenomenon this hike offers is the sea of clouds also known as "unkai". It is a very well sought-after scenery in the northern alps of Japan. Both mountains are part of the 100 famous mountains in Japan.
Join me in this 3 days and 2 nights trip in the northern alps of Japan with Kanto Adventures.
Hike organized by Kanto Adventures.

Deemed as One of the Most Difficult HIKES in JAPAN - Mt. Yari

Mt. Yari or Yarigatake, the 5th tallest peak in Japan, is one of the most dangerous and difficult hikes in the country but it seems like the young ones and the oldies aren't bothered by the title. The success rate of climbing Mount Yari is quite high but I believe it is not a mountain that should be taken lightly. Preparation and planning are the keys to successfully summiting Mt. Insane video, Wow? Are there any technical differences between "O" and arrows? Also a shout out to the people who install the chains, ladders and paint the arrows, x's, and o's. It would be interesting if you ever get a chance to interview them

    • @JohnHikerDolar
      @JohnHikerDolar 24 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yeah! Those who maintain the trails on this route are the real heroes! As far as I know, the o and arrows are guides usually written on the rocks. Mostly seen in when scrambling. O would mean this is the right way you’re still good then x would mean nope don’t go this way. Arrows would mean this way, usually seen when there is a separate way from going up and down.

      Hi! Japan’s weather is pretty weird recently. But usually June is in between spring and summer. It’s the month for rainy season. But if you go to the Alps it’ll still be spring. There are nice hikes there like Kamikochi area and the Murodo area. If you are in Tokyo, going to Hakone is pretty cool with kids as well plus you’ll enjoy great hot spring baths in there.

    I've done Fuji san multiple times and I have to say each time it got worse. Mostly the commercialism, 500 yen for small bottle of water. In any case, it is an iconic mountain, so I understand the need to do it once. The trail mostly consists of volcanic pumice with not much of a view in comparison to other peaks. Fiji san's elegance is best witnessed from afar. On the mountain itself, basically blah. The hut that we stayed on one of the 8th levels served a bento box all in plastic. Horrible. This last weekend, sports day, we summited Kitadake and Ainodake. This video did a good job, although I think you under estimated the difficulty of Futamata trail. I my opinion the trail back from Katanokoya for beginners might be the better trail to ascend Kitadake. Again, John Hiker Dolar is far beyond more knowledgeable than I. Certainly descending Futamata trail (again in my opinion) very difficult, make sure you are rested. If you are a mountaineer short of time, Kitadake and Ainodake if you are in shape offer all the amazing experiences one might expect for great hike. Different terrains, challenges and absolutely the best views in general, and especially of Fuji. I thought the Katanokoya was a great place to stay. Awesome dinner! As far as crowds, I cant complain, yeah, there are a lot of people, but I was one of those people. People are pretty respectful of each other, and there for the same reason as me. Thanks JHD for a great video.

      @@SeanBenward Hi! Yeah you’re welcome! When did you climb? Kitadake? I agree sad truth about Mount Fuji but it is an iconic Mountain because of its beauty from a far. Not when you’re in the mountain. I just want to highlight your comment about Futamata. Because it’s true. 🤣 Going up and going down from and towards Futamata is quite difficult for beginners. I’m wondering, which trail did you take?

Actually the course described in this video is the easiest way to complete the Yari hotaka course.

      In Tokyo? Probably not in Tokyo but I recommend Northern Alps traverse and Southern Alps traverse. The north traverse is more accessible than the south.

      hi sorry for replying late. Kyushu has great hiking spots like the Jomon sugi hike. You can also try the Nakasendo trail.

    Hello, very impressed at your great work! Can I check on two things: 1. Are you carrying your full gear with you? 2. Is your helmet a rental from the hut, and if so how does one even return the helmet??

    • @JohnHikerDolar
      @JohnHikerDolar 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi! 👋 thanks for the kind words. Well, first, I managed to book a reservation at yarigatakesanso and kitahotakagoya so I went light. Just carried food, snacks, water, and other important stuffs. The helmet I’m using is mine. Rent is available at yarigatakesanso but you’ll have to return it after climbing mount yari

    Are the tents here included if you paid 2000 yen for tent spaces or should I bring my own tent?

    • @JohnHikerDolar
      @JohnHikerDolar 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi! Unfortunately no they are not. You have to carry your own tent and the 2000 yen is just for space. But it’s cheaper than huts so yeah 👍

    Hi John, do you know if it's possible to rent a helmet from the huts to take to the other side of daikiretto?

    • @JohnHikerDolar
      @JohnHikerDolar 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi!! honestly, I haven’t heard about it. So I’m not sure. But I don’t think you can. You can rent at Yarigatakesanso and climb yarigatake but you have to return it after summiting mount yari.

    Nice videos John, I just got into hiking in Japan so I am learning a lot. I did a crazy hike along the SHIMANO-ROKA trail last November, have you done it?

      Oh! The Kurobe gorge trail?? Not yet sir! But that’s one in my bucketlist. The thing about it is access. Sooo confusing to access and takes a lot of time. But there’s a lot of info about it now. How was it for you?
