The Untld Show
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 15 มิ.ย. 2020
Hello there and welcome to my channel. I've been called an opinionated person. Sometimes when I go off on a subject I am asked something such as "Hey do you have a podcast?" So I've decided to throw my hat in the ring and will record and post my views on topics such as music, history, books, movies, history or anything I believe worth talking about. Being a musician and avid music fan I will probably talk about that the most but I won't call this a music channel. I want to keep the platform open in order to dabble in anything I find interesting. Hopefully you'll find it interesting too. Thank you for stopping by.
The Untld Show #2: The Damned 1979-1984 Pt. A
I will cover the landscape leading up to the recording of "Machine Gun Etiquette" and my thoughts on it.
In case you missed episode one, here's where you can find it:

I did not write any of the music featured in this video. It appears for the purpose of analysis and review. If you like the Damned, buy their music.

A review of the Damned albums "Damned Damned Damned" and "Music for Pleasure".
Machine Gun Etiquette was the band at its peak, but I think they should've left out the MC5 cover, and put in another track....
Rift Riff Rafter?
Love the cap'n😂
In 1977 the Stranglers were the most popular after the Pistols. Basically it was the big four.
Stiff Little Fingers were not part of the first wave punk bands. The Jam should have been listed here!!
The Jam? X-Ray-Spex? You can't underestimate their importance. Fuck the Clash by the way. The thing is that none of the original bands sounded the same. In England it was a broad church and that was the most important thing. The Banshees first album? The subject matter? Then the shit like Sham69 came and fucked it all up. Then Crass anarcho punk dropped it another level. Then oi. Dead........
You left out Gang of Four, one of the most innovative post-punk bands.
"Idiot Box" is a horrible song.
I agree, Music for Pleasure wouldn't be bad if they left off Idiot Box and Your Eyes. The guitar riff on Idiot Box is just so uninspired.
The damned, like all punk bands were definately Not right wing ! Punk was & is anti yuppy greed ! : )
Dude ! Please keep these coming. I’ve recently gotten hooked on the band, and am fascinated with their segue between punk and goth. You seem like the guy to tell the story!
Damned Damned Damned is such an amazing album and songs line Neat Neat Neat, Fan club and New Rose are personal favourites.
I really dig Dave's vocal on These Hands
Idiot box is one of my favourite Damned songs. It's about the band Television and the traitorous shit that they put the band through on that American tour. Thank goodness for The Dickies ❤. Like deployed 👍 2nd comment saying the same thing 😊, 2 full views though, it's fun being addled 😂
Yep, they were the main three bands of that time. I’d say the only other band that comes close to being part of that original scene is Buzzcocks, just because they played their first show at the Pistols’ second Manchester show in 76. I love all their stuff up to the Friday The 13th ep, although I only got into that recently. Before that I stopped at The Black Album/There Ain’t No Sanity Claus ep.
Yr 100% wrong on Music for Pleasure. It sounds phenomenal on my stereo. Must be yr stereo system. What equipment do you own?
fook oof with your click-inducing video titles, thank you!
Thank you for this ❤❤❤❤❤
Hey!! I took that photo of Bryn at 1:18!! I keep seeing my photos in these docus!! Sweet! I have a story about how some of my photos ended up in their book....I made a video about it.
Loving these videos! Great Job!!! Enjoy your commentary!
Please continue with this show
Some good songs on mfp. You know, idiot box, you take my money.
Thanks or that.enjoyed it. I used to have Vanian and captains autograph, but lost them. Dave just put "Vanian", Captain put "I shit in Thatchers mouth"
I like your dialogue. I was handed the album and ordered to record it onto cassette for a party in 1977, my dad had a good hifi. Those VU meters worked hard. I had never heard anything like it. It was constant. The party was a milestone in our lives, pogoing, strobe lights, spitting beer, string vests bin liners, lots of booze, and a problem teddy boy.
Crass crass crass
I didn’t want to pay to see the official documentary. So thanks for this.
Syd was only good for about two years in the industry, that album would have never taken off.
The Damned should be recognized 💪💥🎸
Very good overview. For the record, I think Generation X's debut LP is the best of all of them.
Any time you're feeling sh1t put New Rose on as loud as you can and if that doesn't work do the same with Neat Neat Neat. If that doesn't cheer you up then you're already dead.
Wot about Tanz Der Youth??
They also had the best name, love them to death, seen them twice in S.F. CA.
Enjoyed this, hope we get the next part at some point
3:52 look into screaming Lord Sutch which I always felt David based his voice and look on to a certain degree. He was one of the original "shock rockers" staring with Screaming Jay Hawkins then Sutch , then Arthur Brown and finally back to America with Alice Cooper. th-cam.com/video/ocS-Nx5ihSs/w-d-xo.html
"Alone" is a killer track on music for pleasure!
The best Stooges cover ever, No Fun by Sex Pistols.
I bought 'Live at Shepperton" when i was 13 in 1983! Fell in love with it and the band for life! Its true the band has put out alot of mediocre albums(but they DEFINITELY put out some 'all killer no filler' albums aswell!), throughout the years, but the awesome take away from all of this.... (the prolificness& vast catalog of the DAMNED) is that when you wanna hear some great DAMNED music, they have sooo many great cuts to choose from they never get old. ALOT!!!!and its a beautiful thing! peace
Thanks for the dope, bro, you're an excellent historian. Pity you don't seem to have continued, but I'm only interested in MGE anyway, so all good. That said, I can't find their 'Eloise' with the ending as I remember it -- evidence of a parallel universe, but I do digress 🤣
The Damned were to the punk movement what Bad Manners and Madness were to the 2 Tone/Ska movement. The fun side not in it for awards but still an integral part of the whole scene and having longevity and success beyond their initial roots.
Im a lifelong damned fan, and i think music for pleasure is a great album,, i play it regularly in my work van along with the other albums, brilliant i have to say,, i know the captain isn't too fond of it because its not produced the way he wanted it to be, but i think its a classic
All three of those top three were good, but no one touched the damned for the absolute no limits. Sod convention. Wild, weird, amazing. Till the day I die they will be number one in my book
Wasn't captain who wrote ANTIPOPE was his brother phil,,
transyl-vanian
Mid 70's not late 70's
Damned are the shit you can't fuck with.
The Clash were rent boys compared to the Damned.
Hear Hear
I see someone said Dave wrote the Love Song Lyrics but I remember reading something with Lemmy where he said Rat had written these awful lyrics like "I'll be the rubbish if you'll be the bin" and he was laughing his arse off and then a few months later it was in the top 20 😂
Idiot box is a favourite of mine
they are the kings... hand down.
Brilliant documentary mate
