Remove the coating. The knife becomes far better! It cuts so much smoother. Just take care of it and rust is not a problem.
The original handle is way better than contoured, which rolls in the hand. Have a great year and hope you sharpened that blade.
The Wynex comes with a central map case thats removable no? Mine does and same pouch ?
Hi mate what's size is the holes in the tang are they 5mm
I carry and use my Winkler daily
Not the Micro....its the Mini (next size up).
One knife, I totally agree with you esee for sure. This knife is my ho, real world how many times do you need to bang on something hard? It's this knife. You need fine carving, you surviving or showing off!
There's only one E in ambidextrous.
I have two Esse 4's and a 6. I have aprox. 80 knives but these are my favorites in their class. If I could only have one outdoor knife, this would be it.
I had to add liners after buying the micarta scales it fit worse in the sheath . Those scales must not have a good consistency on the thickness. Its all good easy fix and boy it looks wicked , removing the coating makes it much better too. If ya wanna see it I got a vid on my mods... It is a darn near perfect blade.
It's an awesome knife but it cost to much.
You may end up spending 50 bucks a pop and get 3 half decent disposable Chinese blades. Buy the esee once and have it ready to go to the grandkids.
This comment is full of ignorance.
@@Nerotique only in your eyes. All you have to do is look at the price.
Well go ahead and make your own knife and tell me how much it cost you to make. If it approaches the price of the ESSE and even halfway meets the quality of the Rowen heat treat, then you might have an argument. Until then you're just spitting more ignorance.
@@jamesbasaldua100 it's 150.00 USD with a lifetime no question warranty. No other knife offers that kind of warranty at that price point. It's practically a steal.
I see so many EDC guys with pry bars. I can't think of much that I'd need a pry bar for. A bottle open is handy, but I can open a bottle with all kinds of things. I'm a cyclist, and there are videos showing multiple ways to open a bottle with a bicycle. Thanks for the review.
Not to mention that many of those pry bars are completely useless, and on a range of 110 to 300 dollars, it's insane
Nice video. Will definitely help people deside which knife is for them. Mirrors most my observations. Ive got both. Man my Elementum is same age as yours. Yours looks brand new mate 👍.
Love my Kizer harpoon but hate the sheath my came with. The one you are showing is much nicer. May I ask if it came with it or aftermarket?
Always loved these! So I copied it and made my own version at home
I want one so bad
got mine today, 220€ in austria 🎭
I have that exact knife and the drop point crusher with black textured linen handle
Wait where did you get this sheath lol none of the ones I see anywhere come with that. The one it comes with is awful so I haven’t gotten it 😅
The Tamashii is also avalaible with black coated blade and green Micarta Scales. I have one. Razorsharp out of the Box. i own also a fixed Elementum in damascus and ebony. I love it. ❤❤❤
Thank you for showing what it comes with. Even in the Knafs video they didn’t say what is included.
I love Winkler, but to call the factor edge "very sharp" isn't exactly accurate. Mediocre performance on cardboard in your video. Granted that will vary per blade and easy to touch up. I couldn't go with the maple, as much as I like the look (and the tribal). Heavy outdoor use, skinning, etc....shy away from wood. Personally their hawks are better than their knives, as I now prefer magnacut for my knife.
The 1095 is not as brittle as the super steels, that’s why ESEE doesn’t offer anything larger than the 4 in S35VN. I have a 6 from before the contoured scales came into being. I don’t mind the original handle but I have the contoured handles on my newer ESEE knives and I like them a lot. Can’t go wrong with an ESEE 6! 👍
@@Butch_Deezlsteak That is inaccurate.
Wow, 10V steel in a cheap fixed 😳…..nice! May do my 1st fixed knife 👍
Love the blade shape I have one and plan on getting another one
It's not even 5160. At least you can practice sharpening with it.
My left ear really enjoyed this one!
Nice knife. I also came across this when looking up the bk 18. I'd take this smaller knife in cpm 10v over the larger, more expensive, 1095 bk 18 any day. I'm also very happy you showed the sheath and size of ulticlip that would work best. Mahalo for this great review and for sharing this video. Aloha
Way over priced! There are knives out there, the same steel and better materials, and half the price! Rip off!
Like what
Yah, the Belt Knife(4 1/2" blade) is a superb blade and a very nice EDC. As former federal LE where I spent 5 1/2+ years in deep undercover(Group I UCO for those familiar), I've always carried fixed blades/Punch Daggers for my self defense EDCs. I currently carry one of Dan's SD2 Protos(my blade is 3 1/2" vs the production blade is 3 1/4") free float in my right front pocket along with his his WK Punch Dagger, right side belt 2:00. Superb quality and gorgeous craftsmanship🤙 Nice vid👊 Stay Safe🍻 RP
Good afternoon The Tamashii is actually a full tang blade🤙 If this has been pointed out prior to my post, apologies Stay Well👊 RP
Gorgeous blade! Winkler is badass
Winkler is great
Great knife from a great maker. Winkler have mastered the heat treat on their 80CrV2 steel. Some may look down on 80CrV2 but it's tough, holds a decent edge and sharpens up well. Glad to hear you want to use this knife - it wants to be used - it demands to be used!! Look after it and you have the start of a great family heirloom. Sharp blades all.
Has anyone figured out how to sharpen this knife. The edge angle is a mystery.
I have the Case Winkler collaboration Skinner designed by Kevin Holland from seal team six. It has sculpted camo g10 scales. Think i might get the belt knife or blue ridge hunter next. The natural micarta looks nice but so does the sculpted camo.
I thought I would lean to the elementum but the more i look at it the more i like the lines of the tamashii. Also the hollow grind is a hard no from me.
I agree with olight baton 3, it's tedious to hold with a short body. I also have the olight arkfeld with UV light and its easier to grip.
Comical 😂🤦🏻♂️
I put some electrical heat shrink on the handle of my Elementum (same model). Highly recommend.
nice idea, thanks.
@@baltikumer89 You're welcome. 🙂
Man hope these are still in stock when i get payed next saturday, been looking for a good fixed blade edc in a good steel with a good sheath for a decent price and this seems to check all the boxes
To fix your esse 3 put the clip on there other side. Because the side you have it on will make it harder to get out and it's closing the gap together and that makes it hard to pull out try it.
Thank you, I just did that. Still a little tight, but much better
I purchased this knife and I think it’s a steal. I’m not sold on the kydex sheath. It will make a new one where I can push off the sheath with my thumb making for a better deployment. The blade came sharp. Great ergos. Truly a great knife and I’m betting it will be a tough knife with reasonable edge retention.
Yes, it's a great knife with a ok sheath
Beautiful knife man
A great looking blade .
It’s full tang but something that I don’t see anywhere else but Winkler knives something that only the best old blacksmiths do even on small blades like that is distal tapering of the handle to perfectly balance the blade leaving the strength exactly where it’s necessary and zero “extra” weight ….incredible and a lot of extra work !
That's something I didn't know. Thank you for the information
@@barrysblades hey no worries I see winkler blades and especially their small combat axes and after my Infantry service just well …..dream to be honest but also when I saw the extra study they put into different steels and designs now like I said …just dream of an 80crv2 combat axe ….someday when I’m rich and famous right ? ….lol
Ulti Clips are very cool. Thanks for the video
Thanks for watching
I have a field, the wooden handle is carved with very beautiful Indian patterns, but the 80crv2 steel is very easy to rust, which is very bad. After sleeping in the mountains for one night, when I wake up in the morning, I will find that the dew makes the knife rust, a lot of rust ! Compared with ka-bar's bk9, ka-bar's 1095 steel will also rust, but it will be much better, but Winkler's knives can be sharpened very sharp! These two knives were mailed from the United States to China for me by courier. The procedures were very troublesome and cost me a lot of money, but I have been using them!
Yes, that's definitely the downside of steels like that. I just keep a little oil in my EDC bag to keep a film on them
You can try to use nuts, such as walnuts or peanuts, to smear the blade, which will have an anti-rust effect😁
You have to maintain carbon steel. If you don’t like to have to maintain a knife like that I would suggest getting a stainless steel knife. But a good knife will rust😉
Tip for the coating , 1000 grit sandpaper will smooth it out but leave the coating and file off an inch of the spine for a sharp 90 degree edge then patina with mustard or apple cider vinegar . if i get one of these i'm getting the "venom" green and i'll dull the blade edge right at the finger choil a safety at the spot would be best ...why they didn't think of that i don't know but , even schrade made a safer choil .
Thanks for the awesome tips. I'm going to have to try that
Now you’re talking! Serious fixed blades.. I’m yet to get this one but I love my Esee3 and 4 they’ve served me well outdoors so far! The Izula 2 always is a back up! More fixed blades Barry.. what’s next?
Yes, I plan on doing a review, which I'm pretty excited about on the Tops War Bowie, which I order today. I carry a Esee 3 in my pocket every day. Thanks for watching
Esee 5 is BK2 brother..
True, I just think The 5 is better ergonomically.
I like the ontario black bird too.
