Thanks so much! I actually managed to replace my rusty 36T small chainring to a lightweight 34T aluminium chainring! With my Allen keys! Hooray for free 70g weight reduction & I'm now finally at 1.06 ratio for my climbing gears! 😊😊

I bought this product as part of a changeover from a 1x drivetrain three months ago. Coming from a 1x system, my emotional tolerance for dropping chains is nill, hence my interest in a two-sided chain catcher. I must say how impressed I am with the design/engineering of this thing. Having ability to adjust each guide separately of the other is excellent. Having two screws for each guide is even better because it enables tilt by loosening the outside screw while leaving the inner one semi-tight. Well done. Lots of thought clearly went into this.

For anyone reading this. He says back off a couple links for full suspension because because you length from the bottom bracket to the axle will change, become larger through the travel. You can air down your suspension and use a tape measure to tell.

No issues with assembly for me th-cam.com/users/postUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L but I could see where some might benefit from using an experienced bike assembler/mechanic. I'm an older rider starting back after a 10 year break. This bike exceeds my capabilities and has been easy to get comfortable riding. I'm mostly on easy trails with almost no street riding and have not been disappointed with the performance of the bike. My fitness level is far below what I previously rode with and because of that the mileage is going on the bike slowly. While I'm losing weight slowly, the bike seems to tolerate my 220 pounds just fine. The bike has been used by several family members ranging from 5'5" - 5'9".

Good video but you failed to mention one thing which is what if the new chain is too short like it is on 9 cog bikes or 27 speeds. You need to buy 2 chains and put them together with pins or quick links to make one chain. All chains sold are too short to go around most if not all 27 speed bikes. You get one chain for the price of two since the new chain is about 6 inches too short.

I know this is an old video but, thanks man! I have a 1999 Specialized FSR Sport that I am changing the middle chainring due to missing teeth. The 42T and 22T were in great shape and so, was the cassette. The 32T middle chainring seems to be the weak link on these bikes. I have talked to other owners that have done the same to get a little more life out of the drivetrain before upgrading. Great job on the video it will save me a lot of time!!

If you’re just replacing your chain without changing the gears, you can just cut your new chain to the length of the old chain side by side. Many times, when people measure how much chains they need to cut, they could cut too much and it behaves differently to the old setup.

I've been riding for a while and have always had some chain slap on rough terrain. I just figured that's just the way it is. Finally decided to see if I could do anything about it. Turns out my chain was too long and poorly tensioned. It had even been replaced before by my local bike shop during a tune up, with no change in behavior before/after. They must have copied the length of the old chain assuming it was fine (as did I until I finally investigated it). It is pretty fair to assume that if it's working fine as is, it makes complete sense to just copy the chain length.

Great video. Brief & to the point. Thx for getting right to the point & not wasting over half the video explaining stupid stuff like removing pedals, changing the crankset (not the subject of the video) and, well, I could go on & on. Your video accurately describes the issue in the title & then proceeds to actually explain everything you need to know between the 1 minute & 5 minute marks. Why can't all how to videos do that without getting lost in the weeds? For example, if someone can't even figure out how to remove pedals, they've got no business messing with the chainring & front derailleur.
