I am reducing the mountain dulcimer video to explain better how to read your sheet music given the tuning of dulcimer you are currently in. You either add 3 or subtract three depending on what book you have. And what tuning you are in

I will absolutely be heading towards your website very soon... thank you very much.
Do you ever get any Merlins in also I love the sound of the one farthest from you
@@TheWhiskywolf our " Merlin's" are our chord sticks. I'll do some videos on them soon.
@@NEEDFULSTRINGSLLC is Merlin a brand or a type of dulcimer I thought those u had there were strum sticks
Brand. See the tuning is all that matters and if it is diatonic or chromatic.
I liked second one
@@carolinestagg6807 thats a beautiful one isn't it :)
The books are great
It would be better to have the dulcimers on a stand so they can resonate and reveal the sounds of "all" of the tonewoods.
Gosh the o’briens sound good too
Cedar creek walnut ❤ sounds so nice and different with that backing than all walnut… but the walnut woods are sooo pretty
Oh gosh both walnuts look amazing.. totally different looks but both beautiful 😂🥰 no wonder most of my dulcimers end up being walnut😂😜 I’m partial to patterns as well as straight esp when slight color variations
The cherry with lighter streaks closest to camera sound better to me of the first 2 but it was also closest 😂 but the cherry I got from you sounds bestest🥰
@@938quilt hahaha I believe you :) Yeah I think my favorites change all the time 😉
Thank you for sharing!!! Always wanted to know how to do this because nobody in the dulcimer club knew how to do this. Maybe but anyway thank you!!!!!!
@@russellmann3407 absolutely Russell Mann have a blessed day !!!
These sound very nice! I'm glad to see people still appreciate a doubled melody string.
@@benjaminlockhart99 Thanx Benjamin have a blessed Thanx giving
Cedar creek walnut ❤❤❤
You have a nice music shop with many interessting music instruments. Thank you for your nice explain. 😀🎶
@@manuelarichter586 I'm planning to do much more :) I have potential
Thank-you for these videos they're great !
I appreciate your kindness. I'm trying to be helpful to all dulcimer players and show everyone it's going to be fun for them to play.
Call me or go to my website if you want to get that Christmas book using DAA by Tom Arnold 😊❤
Here is the better version of yesterday's lesson
Almost bed time for me
While that spalted maple looks gorgeous, I simply love the sound of the walnut one.
@@Rocketsong it's beautiful isn't it . If you don't already, it's easy to collect them .
goodness I'm sitting at work listening between work that comes in LOL! when Chas first started back a month or 2 ago I HAD to get the cherry walnut classic you played on that first video. love it. you also played a maple on that one and it was nice. different tunes you played and I know each is different but this maple one sounded so much different but the more I listened I could still hear something similar between them LOL! but both of these walnut tops sound similar to each other yet different from the cherry and maple - cherry and maple sound 'super happy' if that makes sense and the walnuts sound like they'd ring deep and strong for a while if just strumming- they have a pleasant sound for my ears. does that sound right? cherry and maple good if you don't want a lot of sustain or do the walnut classic with one of those woods for a medium? then walnut for lasting 'boom'?! you know, you could just grab one of those books with hymns, christmas songs and just play through it on all the dulcimers LOL 🤣🤣🤣
@@938quilt yeah I may have to play public domain music. I really like making my own stuff up cause it's more inspiring and no one can spot mistakes lol . I'm trying to show people that standards don't exist and that paper is what intimidates everyone. And your emotions are your emotions . I love expressing ones self cause everyone is different from one another .
can you play some more songs on that walnut walnut classic? maybe i just liked it with that song LOL! I was hoping for a different wood as I have other dulcimers all walnut but that one sounds amazing (ok hoping it sells fast when you open today HA! bye bye temptation!)
@@938quilt i made it in to work this morning and gotta package up a dulcimer. I'll see about what the day is like, and make a video
I'll have to look when I get home!
oh no... the all walnut one I LOVE the sound... that's the last one you played right?
oh goodness the walnut walnut is amazing!!
wow that maple is gorgeous!! yikes now the walnut one is too LOL only 2 i've seen so far...
I saw those wooden picks on the counter; I should have picked out one. On pun intended!
@@mikeflake1273 I am thinking about putting them on my web page. I might put that on my to-do list this week

Can you get Chas and mark to do an interview with you? ❤
@@938quilt that sounds like fun actually
Wow the chord stick is beautiful wood😮! I’ve seen them in the background of your videos but didn’t realize the wood was patterned so pretty!
Wooden picks 🥰🥰🥰
Yeah the wooden picks are real beautiful
the snark i have is useless
@@JamesPurdie-rx8sq just make sure you have batteries in it James haha
@@NEEDFULSTRINGSLLC I do have batteries.....it just doesn't centre. It says lopsided, it will come to the centre line with illuminated bars still on the left side. But I compare the tuning to my guitar tuning app and it's out considerably....the one i got is garbage. I've used a lot of these things in the past. I hear others have also had issues. I just got bummer i guess.
@jamesbondaygee well I got the good stuff tried and true . Have a blessed day brother
Mine lasted two days now doesn't pick up noise. guy at guitar center was trying to get me to pay 7$ for the year warranty like he knew they break. idk.
@@peterkoinzell7983 sounds like you got a bad one.
That pick punch thingy is cool!!!

I was looking on TK's website - looks like shorter scale length - that's VSL right? I think Chas's dulcimers have longer scale lenght - haven't measured but seems the reach for the chording is a bit more of a stretch than on some of my shorter vsl dulcimers. but I love all 3 of my cedar creeks/walnut classics1
@@938quilt TKS vsl is roughly 25.75 inches
