Hidden Proxy Menu in DaVinci Resolve Fusion

Ok, seems like Blackmagic really doesn't want us to use proxies in Fusion...this hidden menu has been removed in the latest Beta. And the proxy slider in Fusion settings still does nothing. Big sad face. Posted in the forums here: forum.blackmagicdesign.com/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=198352

I saw a question asking about creating this parallax credit roll with photos and videos inspired by the end credits in the movie "Instant Family". @@raiidovfx yes, it has been removed. There is no way to use the proxy mode in ReFusion. All we have is timeline proxy mode 😒
Hey can you please make videos on nodes in fusion it would be very helpful for us i know the fusion workflow but I'm having too much problems with nodes because I don't know what some nodes do ✨✨✨
Hi Matt, it’s a brilliant template. I’ve been looking for something quite creative like this for weeks as my own slide show creations are quite simple although adequate. I’m thinking of downloading your template but have one question before I do, just in case it doesn’t work with my set up. I am using DVR Studio on a iPad Pro (M4) and also I have the free version on my desktop PC running Windows 11. Will your template run on both systems? I tend to use my iPad more than the PC version but the PC free version has more controls and displays all the various tabs/pages which are limited on the iPad. (I’ve just finally found the workaround for displaying all the pages on the iPad) Anyway do let me know if this template will run on the iPad studio version or if there are any limitations such as all the wonderful controls you demonstrated. Hi Kevin, thanks for watching! I haven't had the chance to test this on an iPad, but everything should work just the same. As long as you have some way to rename your photos into a sequence (pic1, pic2, pic3, etc...) You may have to put the drfx file into your template folder as Patrick shows here: th-cam.com/video/2GcsGvDHcps/w-d-xo.htmlsi=hwlnsfN4NHr-srTy&t=488 And I do know this works with the free version. If you want, you can be my iPad beta tester and I can refund you right after you download it. This would be helpful to me so I can let other iPad users know what to expect. Just make sure you use your name on Kofi so I know who to refund. 😉

Matt this is sick! You mentioned questions / suggestions - is there a way to, for example, put a white border around these photos the way you did in the previous version?
Yep! Since recording this video, I've added border controls under the last tab. You can now increase or decrease the brightness and thickness of the border. Thanks for downloading! 🤠

@@MattMcCool0 One more question for you - are there framerate implications with this tool? I exported a project and the photo reel I used at the end is a little choppy at times. Any suggestions or advice there?
@@LT-Seeks it should behave just like any other fusion template. It will animate at different speeds based on frame rate (you have the speed control to compensate), but you shouldn't get choppy playback unless your timeline is choppy. What is the frame rate of your timeline?
@@MattMcCool0 Gotcha. My timeline isn't choppy, just exported at 29.97. If you got to the end of my most recent video I just posted you can see your effect here in action.

@@onavisionmedia you'll need to fix it in your file browser outside of Resolve then reload the image sequence 👍

I bought your photo roll and now I am trying to figure out how to add a photo background, can you please give advice?
Thanks for the download! You can disable the "Background" checkbox under the last menu. Then you can add whatever you'd like underneath the photo roll element on your timeline.
I just bought it... thats very nice... I would also love, if there would be exactly the same plugin for video because for years I would like to make a video, that showcases how my adhd-brain works and i recognized during your video, at 12:58 where you got all these images in that region... imagine having hundreds of random videos playing at the same time in a constantly moving region like that... similar to an anthill is how it looks like 24/7 in my brain... of course it would also be possible to make that with photos but since photos are still, it doesn't fit to that constant moving chaos that much, than actual videos would do. but its already very nice for my photography videos and maybe for an intro (yes, i still do intros because i like them) 🙂

I am new to Davinci Resolve; how do you install the Photo Roll FX after downloading it?
Just double click the drfx file and Resolve will ask to install.

Here's what's interesting. It's one thing to create this color palette, but it's another thing to use it. There is no video on how to use it for some reason. What am I saying? Here, for example, there's an example shot where I like the coloring. I take the color palette from it. Then if I load my frame into Photoshop, I can paint my frame into the frame from the example, using the color palette. And just on this example if cool video lessons. BUT! Very strange that I have not seen such lessons for example using Davinci. Here, I got a color palette. And why do I need it if I can not use it to color my frame? If only there was such an opportunity in Davinci, as in Photoshop. Or maybe no one has not figured out how to realize it? There are a lot of ready-made frames with palettes from different movies on the Internet. But how can I use it in a video?
I think you're misunderstanding or looking too deeply into this. It's not a tool to "use". It's just a fun way to show off your grade. I used these in my Color Academy series for MotionVFX to help illustrate the points I was making. It's just a creative way to display the mood of a grade.
@@MattMcCool0 Yes, I understand. It's just that in Photoshop I can use this palette to colour my shot as close to yours as possible. And the results are pretty good. So for me it is strange that in such a cool programme Davinci did not implement such an important option).

As long as you're on DaVinci Resolve 17.2 or higher, all you need to do is double click the file then click "install". You may need to restart Resolve after it's installed. There are instructions included with the download. Feel free to send me a message on Kofi if you need any assistance!

I always see videos like this on color palettes but what is the ultimate purpose for the palette? Can you make a video on how/why you would use this in a real life example?
They're just for visual interest. Say you make color grading tutorials, film analysis essays, or you just wanna show off a grade on social media...these help emphasize the mood portrayed by the colors in the frame.

I've found out about this recently from Lazy Artist but these hidden buttons have disappeared for me. Were they moved/removed in the latest beta of DVR Studio 19?

I don't think the Fusion overlay works on iPad but it should work otherwise. You'll just have to adjust the range and swatches using the inspector.

Well Matt - that is very McCool indeed. Would be a. idea to have somewhere that either samples the RGB values or could be used to shot match certain hues between two different shots. I imagine that one could probably set it up to be palette for one and they see on top of another to match the hues and lumiance. But this is really great for presenters, I can see youTube tutorials using this to showcase how to grade etc. Really great work.

Yeah, I froze them in the color academy lessons 3 and 5. I could add that maybe in the future. I just figured it could get confusing if the shot changed a lot and the palettes no longer resembled the scene.
