Fixing oil leak from the oil cooler hose W123
Good morning, so here i am giving a rough overview of what i did to fix the leaking oil cooler hose on my W123 diesel.
Note: i put on a almost completely worn angle grinder cutting disc, so it was a small diameter/radius disc so less chance to accidentally cut anything else that was close.
Note: the clamps were 21mm to 23mm in size range.
note: cut the outer crimped clamp, that is okay, you have about 1 to 2mm thick hose before you get to the important barb underneath, don't cut too deep.
Note: you will likely have to cut each metal crimp twice to get the crimp off, use a large flat screwdriver to get the crimped piece off. ( they are sharp, be careful )

Here i have a companion stove that runs on kerosene/paraffin oil. I figure out what's wrong with it, being missing parts, leaking body and a bad valve and piston. I seal the air leak in the body I make a new piston/valve I make a new gas guide piece I make a new burner element I show it all, doing it at home, including the mistakes along the way so you don't have to. Here i got a vintage oil/fuel pump to get working again. it's made by Gilbert and Barker here in Australia who trade under the name of Gilbarko Not sure on the actual age, but i suspect it is at the "newest" 1950's as per the internals are all cast iron with a brass ring as a sealing ring, which was phased out as far as i know before the 1960's Anyone with more information, i'll be glad to hear :D

On a friends bike looking at setting the floats as it's not the best on a test drive. If the carby floats are too high, the fuel won't be atomised well and wil be rich and not match with the other carb.

What kind of clear fuel line is this?
Simple PVC clear line from the hardware store. I used it for demonstration purposes. :)

I have a fast cut 32 that the clutches have been sticking on a little bit, it’s really scary when you’re heading toward a retaining wall and you have to try and jam it into reverse. I’ve replaced the blades, the spark plug multiple times, then had the engine rebuilt because it was burning through so much oil. Tightened up and greased the steering rack, and now I’m just waiting on some new belts. I’ve had that many problems with it but I think I have finally got it to a place where I shouldn’t need to work on it much more 🤪 Hopefully…

My primer pump isnt working i get no resistance on pump.im ordering new primer. This car has been sitting for 10 years .Drained fuel vacuum pump through line. Blew air into tank fuel came out of line at primary filter. No fuel at cracked injector.
My primer is not building any pressure. Just pumps obviously not priming. Any other method?
A good thing to watch is the fuel flow in the first fuel filter, most of them are transparent, or translucent. is the air bubble in the fuel filter getting smaller when you pump with the primer ? it can take 100 pumps with the little primer to get fuel comfortably flowing around.

about 1/4 of the tank, also the filter was clogged up. so no fuel was getting through... No choice.

The tyre blew, so just lever it off with a crowbar or couple large flathead screwdrivers very easily.
Cheers I managed to figure it out with the help of the local mower guy. In order to get an intact tyre off to change the tube you need to crack both seals front and rear, then push the front of the tyre in toward the middle of the rim where the two halves of the rim meet. That makes it possible to then lever the tyre off. I was trying to get it off without pushing it in first and it just wasn't happening. :)
@@sneakyguy8917 WHy make it so complex ? treat it like a small and stubby bicycle tyre like i did. No nonsense, it came off easily and new one went on easily.
Mine didn't. :) It wouldn't budge until I positioned it correctly as per my previous post. Maybe because your was torn it was easier to remove? Anyway, I was just posting in case someone else was having trouble at some point. Cheers :)
@@sneakyguy8917 Let any air out. Hit the side of the tirewall with a hammer to loosen it up if the rubber is sticking to the rim and then just take it off.

Pressurize the inlet to the fuel filter with a small 12 volt diesel pump , crack all the fuel nozzle lines at one time . Restrict the return fuel line flow a little , close the nozzle lines , start engine , remove fuel restriction clamp . Remove 12 volt pump .
How tight do I need to do it. Should the 0.06mm not fit in there ?

Dude just the clip I was looking for wasn't sure what the plates were made of I thought it would be the same stuff a car clutch plate was made out of cork. I will use a paint scraper to get the old ones off then the bench grinder with the 9' wire wheel to polish em up cleaning off the grease and oil with acetone or wax & grease remover. Is this the glue recommended if I cant get the cork for this old AMC I'll just buy the heavy cork gasket material and cut some out myself thanks for your clip now I know what im working with.

What happens when u bridge the pin 30 and 87?
It by-passes the tiny internal relay in the housing so that 12V is delivered continuously to the fuel pump. Good for an Emergency "get-you-home" situation, but don't leave it that way.Tthe pump will run continuously without the key in the ignition, flattening the battery and eventually burning out the fuel pump. I did a comprehensive overview video about this.
The fuel pump works in continuos......but is not correct, it's very dangerous!

Why did you not explain how you re-routed the Hose that comes from the top of the Valve Cover to the Air Filter Housing

how did you modify the oil drain and the PVC? usually there is a hose that goes from the Valve cover to the Air Filter and the oil travels from the hose thru the PCV and either back into the oil drain or into the turbo. Where does the hose go now? and what did you do with the Oil Drain tube?

i dont understand how the Neutral saftey switch works? if the NSS wont work then the car wont start on P or N? i've been having to put my car on N to start it and it would sometimes work on P.. what is the NSS there for? My 82 240D started making a really bad noise when i was doing highway speeds and when the car came to a stop (almost sounded like it needed an excorsism) smoke was emitting from the bottom of the transmission, and around the starter/ left side of transmission.. oil pressure was good, temp was good so i was confused.. turns on out the start motor spines was grinding against the flywheel notches. I took out the starter and i noticed the notches where pretty much cut up and noticed a bit of metal shavings in the whole where the starter goes.. when testing the old starter while it was still in car, it would just click.. hopefully its just the starter and the NSS which im replacing when the parts get here.. i'm going to check ground connections that u showed.. is there anything else that would make the car not start or is it just Battery, NSS and starter that is neccessary for the 240D to start? thanks edit: i tuned up the car prior to this annoying issue
Neutral safety switch. fuel ( clogged up filters ) bad starter are pretty much the only things i can think of right now, it's 3am here. The neutral safety switch, if your car is automatic, it makes the car only be able to be started in either P or N position on the selector. If the car is not starting, and the battery is good and the starter is good. Then wiggle the gear selector around a little bit when in the P and N positions when you turn the key to start the engine ( keep wiggling as you turn the key )
my starter decided to go out on my 82 240D while riding the highway. it wasn't showing symptoms before of it failing, the spleen on the starter was grinding against the flywheel while i was doing 40-50, smoke was emetting from underneath the car I was madly confused... i thought the engine was about to blow up or something lol

@@note_finger If you need to wiggle the gear selector, it's either the gear selector bushing which is a cheap fix, but a bit annoying to do. Or it's the neutral safety switch itself on the side of the gearbox/transmission. It could just need adjusting, or it could be on it's way out.

Yet one of the reasons why the blower isn't working is the ethanol content in the gasoline. Most gas stations mostly have gas with 10% ethanol, which is something you have to be really careful about especially it can calls problems with starting and performance of the engine. And I use Tru Fuel in my two cycle equipment, such as weedeaters, blowers and chainsaws.
Awesome job! These airstream blowers were pretty decent blowers back in the old days. Yeah, I noticed a spike when you test the spark plug after all these years. One thing you have to be really careful with is the ethanol Contant in the gasoline since ethanol can ruin a good engine. McCulloch airstream blowers still at its best after 30+ years. These blowers were made back in the day, when lawn and garden equipment was built to last and were built a whole lot better than today's blowers that people buy from Walmart, Lowes, Home Depot, Rural King, or even Tractor Supply.
yes, most definitely, i always go for the older equipment as it's tougher, more simple and can be fixed. Also, yeah we have the option of non-ethanol where i live :) so i'm glad for that.

Oh, that one will be a lot more involved as i believe you need to take out the centre console for that i'm afraid.
