If you think Super's animation is better than Z, then you are a freaking Genzer!

I need honest answers here. What is the reason for the piss poor designs in basically everything post Dragon Ball Z? I dont know how much of it can be labeled as 'New Art Style' in place of 'Absolute Crap'. MOST of the examples shown above from Super look near identical to what i saw Grade 2 kids draw of DBZ back in the early 2000's. At first i chalked it up to the new Digital Age where alot of animated shows are now done digitally - on Drawing Tablets etc. instead of the original Pen to paper method. I also took into account that with whatever method of animation is now being used, the easist and fastest way would be creating simplified character designs to avoid constantly redrawing details seen in many DBZ examples for the actual "animation" process. Heres the issue - On average a single episode of DBZ took roughly 2-3 months to create. Because of tech advancements, now a single Episode of Super takes 1.5 - 2 months to create from start to finish. I won't ignore the the measly sounding '1 month difference' because I've heard of the insane time constraints the animators are given. BUT that does not excuse the simple fundamentals of Dragon Balls art style being overlooked and drawing what's basically a stick figure within a silhouette of any of the DB characters. Take vegeta for example - his face - a defining feature of Vegetas face where his nose and mouth are usually kept close together, compared to Super (see 4:32) The actual 'Art Style change' from Dragon Ball to Mid Dragon Ball Z makes sense and it's a clear stylistic change going from rounded eyes to squared-off eye shapes, sharper but just as detailed character designs, but here? This isn't a deliberate style change. The same Dragon Ball Z designs are being followed but done very poorly resulting in Supers Kid-drawn looking designs. There's a few exceptions like at 5:21, this was Shintani's look for Vegeta. Since he's a One Piece animator you can tell there's a deliberate Art Style change/preference by the animator specifically where the quality is still fairly good but resembles more of the One Piece look/style that he'd been used to drawing. So Basically...How TF were people allowed to get away with this? Not even just pointing at the Animators who seemingly never watched an episode of Dragon Ball before, but even Toei Animation for putting their work out there. Z was never - Always perfect. It had its share of animators who drew some episodes weirdly and you'd be able to tell from the first few scenes of the episode. Whereas with Super ... There's a FEW Spots of good animation or even a couple frames sprinkled Randomly among the Entire Series. I give MAD credit to Yuya Takahashi for his work in the later episodes of Super in the TOP arc. Search up his DBS work and you'll see why credit is due. I remember vividly remember seeing scenes he animated and immediately it was one of the first times I thought Super actually resembled Dragon Ball Z. Side note: Credit to Toei Animator on the last slide (ONLY) with Black punching Goku, their work looks better than the Fan made design.

I don't like that ssg was made buff in the dbz artstyle. I actually like the skinny look of ssg.

Buu saga of Z had the BEST art and has such grit and emotion in it. Really wish Super was drawn similar to it.

The 90s were peak of humanity in terms of culture. They cared and tried to deliver the best quality they could get, because of the economy and so called "The End of History" Economy in Western countries and Asian US allies was overwhelming. Nowadays we are used to crap and they feeding us with that crap so they can make profit. We enjoy too much crappy things and they took advatage of it

A lot (not all) of the 90's examples here are not really any better overall than their super's counterparts but in fact point out an underlying issue that befell db super when it aired: the lack of more pronounced facial designs (that didn't all look essentially like baby faces) and muscle size as well as detail that was present in Z. The lack of deeper shades of color also were a potential problem but were less so as it was more of a consistency issue. At 1:30 we actually get a good proper take at what a better version of super could've looked like if it learned from the previous airings of z and the like years back. 5:40 is also a good example.

DB without its unique art style is just as like any other crap anime.

Why are anime studios so hell bent on making skin look shiny? Seriously it looks someone put a fresh coat of wax on everyone’s face in the Super pictures. People are not shiny! Skin is not reflective! Cut it out Japan!

We’ve been crying about this for so long and I know there are strings they need to pull first. Daima animation is a start. Imagine if the anime took so long to come back only because they were bringing back the dragon ball z artwork!
