    the most annoying gripe for me about webflow is you feel like youre fighting the tool instead of it working for you. Oh you want paging and filtering? nope cant have that have to get finsweet 🤣. Oh youre animations are complicated and not just a basic fade in/out? go get gsap and so on. In the end youll have a frankenstein of an app that wont even be maintainable by you in a few weeks of not working on it, goodluck giving it to your non technical client expecting him to maintain or do something with your “code”

    • @dylandavino
      @dylandavino 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Great idea! I haven’t been posting lately so I’ll try to summarize it here. Most of the content on the site can be pretty basic and informative. We don’t send a questionnaire, but in our initial call I’ll get all the information we need about the structure and pages on the site. Once we have that, you can use AI or write basic content to fill out the site. The only content that needs to be highly specific is Bios or information like how many projects they’ve completed, etc. I’d suggest waiting until after you’ve drafted the whole site to ask for info like this. Then you know exactly what you need and you can write a personalized email showing which parts they’ll need to give you info for. Hope this helps!

    Everything is on point except the part about not being able to pitch a high cost site because it was built on Squarespace. Clients generating lots of revenue simply don’t care about the platform and truthfully SS has a lot of marketing tools, analytics etc built in so while it’s not as complex design wise as Webflow it does provide a lot of tools for growing a business and the cost of a site built on it shouldn’t reduced to how easy it was to create. Remember it’s all about solving problems

    I've recently grown an interest in Webflow and started learning how to design on the platform. I have a WordPress blog but I'm planning to migrate over to Webflow. Also, I've already been learning SEO for a while and use Ahrefs for my blog. I want to sell both of these services (web design and SEO) to local clients. I’m actually coming from Wordpress and moving towards webflow. It’s true WP offers more hosting flexibility, but a good hosting plan that will offer you performance and security will go for way more than a webflow website would. The other issue is that good plugins will often come at very high costs. I have some plugins cost as much as $400/year. And that’s just for one. You will quickly find that your average wordpress website will require at least 4-5 plugins just to get you to a basic level of functionality. Then there’s the maintenance and the occasional conflicts that arise from plugin devs not properly testing releases or the fact that your website uses plugins from several devs who are all doing different things, many not following good principles. In my 10+ yr experience with Wordpress, I rarely saw a client site that wasn’t full of cheap plugins that were slowing it down or had a bunch of issues. WP is also a lot more difficult for clients to handle and the feedback about the editing experience was that it is super confusing, buggy and slow. After trying webflow for almost a year I have to say it’s the easier one. That being said there are use-cases where wordpress leaves webflow in the dust, but that’s for more involved websites, as it doesn’t suffer from Webflow’s sometimes arbitrary restrictions. But it all comes at a price.

    • @dylandavino

    The CMS‘s cons are not true. You can generate entire websites dynamically with the option of binding containers to visibility switches, I’ve managed to build a client website that he can completely control himself. He can add new pages, remove pages, bind newly created pages to module button links, feed them with new content ect. I’ve even build a JavaScript system that allows him to control animations with custom variables that the CMS fetches from collections to implement conditions into loops that change the appearance of certain things, even a filter and management system for timed events fully customizable (background color, font, font size ect). The limitation of Webflow is your own horizon, the more deep you get into this topic, the more complex your development becomes.
