Since the first time I saw this video it's had a visceral effect on me. I don't know if it's just the music or just that it's Shawn Lane playing it but it always gives me a weird sensation of floating up stream on my back under water.

Very reminiscent of Eric Johnson, of whom Shawn was a big fan. Saw EJ at the Antenna Club in Memphis in 86 and looked to my right and Shawn was right beside me! He was alone. We had just met about a week before at a Willys show. We'd go see the Willys everytime they played from 85 to 89. Became friends, then I moved due to graduation. We both were into aquaria so we'd talk fish most of the time lol I've met EJ twice and we talked about 30 mins both times and Shawn came up both times...he's still blown away by him. Good times. ...he was kinda holding back in this performance!

Very good advice! A lot of drummers never think to give that a try. I know it’s been a popular trend for quite awhile that drummers combine 2 big crash cymbals and make a hi hat out of that. I don’t care for that sound very much. For me, a nice thick “bottom” hi hat cymbal can give a better stick sound on top. I do wish that people would play the hats reversed as well as the normal way when making hi hat demo videos.

Listen to the song "Hey T Bone" off of the album Centrifugal Funk, he and Brett Garsed play some of the most intense and wonderful guitar. Shawn is sorely missed

One thing to keep in mind is all hi-hat stands are not created equal. Some are not strong enough in the spring/rod to have a heavier cymbal on top.
