    Great video! I have two questions: 1) How did you tighten the two lower bumper bolts inside the frame... near the mounting plate? 2) Did you torque or hand-tighten the bolts that attach to the winch from underneath? Two of mine ended up cross-threaded. Thank you!

      excellent wet performance and braking. We take the jeep into the mountains several times/week to ski and the tires are secure and handle wet slushy and hard packed powder snow well. Ice is obviously an issue but is for any tire without studs or embedded traction. Cheers!

    we have these now on our expedition EL. Can't believe how light the wheel feels now versus the OEM tires. These are going to be fantastic for packed snow this winter. We don't do much off roading but its nice to know we can handle it and sand out at the beach, plus the main thing is that these are quiet at freeway speeds.

    Liked the video review! So now, after having it a couple of years, how does it do in wind? I tend to camp where it seems like it's always windy - my current "instant" tent collapsed on me last week in Death Valley and I need something that will hold up in high wind areas. Looking at these, Shiftpod or Kodiak. Any helpful opinions would be appreciated!!

    • @anybackroad8849
      @anybackroad8849 ปีที่แล้ว

      thx for watching! it does great in the wind, the frame is super strong. the one issue we had was the tent really does need those guylines rigged if it's going to be super rainy to tension the top for proper drainage, otherwise the rain puddles on the top and could stretch things out. We love ours and enjoy it although sometimes I think a smaller packed size would be more practical - we're lucky to have our big jeep box to help. Good luck with your choice!

      Hey there, I don't remember the exact model but it fits our RV4 with just a few inches to spare on either side - pretty perfect! I'm guessing it's the 92" length and we've had it since the early 2000s. As long as the inside dimension is at least 82"+ in length (the RV4 comes in around 79" from the Oztent site) it's great to be able to throw it in the box, no worries. good luck

      hey thanks for watching! It took about 6 hours to put on - all pretty straightforward. Unloaded our jeep handled great. When we loaded up to camp though we found the stock springs were no match for the weight, so after about a year we put in just a set of rear teraflex 1.5" overlanding springs - stiffer, more coils and taller. now it's just about perfect for most trips although if we're doing sustained desert travel with bikes (lots of hitch weight and water) we're sagging a little. I'd like to put a full proper lift on it but it fits too well in our garage with our rocket box, so no go :-). if I was building it for overlanding though i would jump right to a lift with springs included rather than spacers, but if it's mostly for local light offroading the spacer kit is great. hope that helps!

    Parking your van outside (and not being full-time living) how do you keep your waterlines from freezing? I'm planning my van, and will not be full-time, and am worried if it's parked for a week or two below freezing I'm going to be in trouble. But I don't want to have to winterize the kitchen so I can still take it out. Thanks!

    • @anybackroad8849
      @anybackroad8849 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Jacob, we did have to winterize our water system in the winter - draining the system fully. It wasn't ideal but I know there are strategies now that can help keep the plumbing from freezing including thermal pads and heat tape at critical areas and well insulated tank compartments and plumbing conduits. The key to those strategies is reliable power, probably shore power plugged in if you are going to have the van sitting with water in it for some days/weeks. Alternatively a micro water system with removable jugs may be a more practical solution. That's probably what I would do for my next van - one or two 7 gallon fresh water containers under the sink would be optimal, and they're easy enough to pull when it gets cold. Good luck!
