first start up after complete rebuild. Waiting on tank and seat to be powder coated.
Why no smike?
what voltage of battery do you have in the bike, just started rebuilding one and cant seem to find any information on it.
12V. Cannot recall what mAh but it was in pretty small. Doesn't take much to start it up
What a fantastic sound brings back so many memories and fun rides, strokers rule
ツーサイクルエンジンのこの音と加速力が凄く良い
My cousin had one of these in parts, in their barn, in the mid 70's...as a teen I bought it from him for $200.00. You may not be happy to hear this but we turned it into a dirt bike. After I got it put together and running we put knobbies on front and back along with a huge back sprocket. I cut down the seat to a single, and removed the front fender and unbolted the back fender and made a little curved up short fender and bolted it back on. two "shorties" for the exhaust pipes and a coat of yellow and black stripe paint. That thing was a pleasure to see and hear!! The worst part is that I cant even remember who I sold it to or what actually happpend to it!
But thanks for the memories!
@@wientz no problem, This was a fun little bike. Kind of wish I would have kept it, but I sold it several years ago.
Nice bike been nice if you didn't grab the exhaust the oils on your hand will burn the oil from into the chrome permanently should have just touch the cooling fins. I'd really love to have that bike I'm actually restoring a Suzuki re5 at the moment.
That’s only if it’s titanium
@@tubuskan4348 I've never put a titanium header on a vehicle but I did make the mistake when I was younger when I installed some 304 stainless header on a Mazda rx7 and didn't wipe the oils off from my hands and it burned my finger prints into them permanently. Ever since then I don't touch stainless exhaust pipes bare handed if I do they get cleaned first before heated.
Gets rid of speedo, tach, electric start, turn signals...keeps oil injection.
Thanks captain obvious
Superb sound! Nice work! My baby was my Yamaha R5 1972 350cc.
hi did you replaced the seal on the crankshaft, specially the center one?
Yes I did
Rear disc, pretty advanced for the time
Can you tell me where you got the gas cap? I’ve got the same shrinking problem with my cap.
That was several years ago. Pretty sure I got it on eBay. It was a universal cap and weld in bung. I looked and compared dimensions in the ad description until I found one that dropped into the stock gas tank hole. Then my welder guy welded it in place. Sorry I can’t provide more details
@@sbaugrud6281 perfect! Thanks for the info. By the way great job on the bike.
Any chance you remember what gas cap you used?
No sorry. It was a universal bung/cap unit that I’m pretty sure I got on eBay. The bung dropped right down into the tank and my welder took care of welding it in place.
@@sbaugrud6281 is the bike still running good? I saw this video was from awhile ago
I sold it several years ago on Bringatrailer
So beautiful
Had a pristine RD400 1979 model 20 years ago, it would shame much larger capacity motorcycles and the engine sound, pure magic. If you really wanted too, the front wheel could be lifted under acceleration and once you were into the engines power band hang on!
Shes a Beaut‼
I had one !
handlebar map switch not lighting up.
Had one......Loved it.
Had a white one in 1979. Great bike
We didn't have this bike in Brazil, but this bike is very nice, I love two stroke motorcycles.
This was famous as a Widow maker in India...👀👀
I am surprised it only has 15hp ? my 1973 TS 185 single enduro had 17hp :)
Beautiful bike. This looks like a pre sale video. Still got it?
Looks almost exactly like my 77 RD400. th-cam.com/video/Vs3TgsF_9Do/w-d-xo.html
Road raced a '77 RD400D from '79 to '83, Excellent motorcycle.
M
RDs are so much funner to ride with a set of expansion Chambers all turned and jetted right.
Muito Bela

Wov! What model fuel tank is that?
eBay special. I believe it is a reproduction honda tank. Just do a search for "cafe racer tank". Be aware, its pretty cheaply made. I ended up welding my own dual bungs for fuel delivery and I ended up sealing with caswell because its pretty thin metal.
@@sbaugrud6281 thank you very much
This was my first bike-same color and very fast. Only problem was after a long ride my ass was still vibrating and sore..lol.
Bike look all original
It is all original
I love 2 strokes, instant excitement from the moment they are cranked over.
I bought a brand new 1977 RD400D in 1979 for $1250.00, It is still far and away the most fun motorcycle to ride! The power band is the most fun at 7000 rpm it steps into a phone booth and at 7100rpm it come out and the fun begins.
LOL! Nicely (& accurately) Put! Had one I rebuilt .090 over - MONSTER TORQUE!
I was born in 1989 ....🤧🤧
I love the Japanese bikes sold in the 70s and 80s, Yamaha 250/350/400/500, Suzuki 250/350/380/550 and Kawasaki 250/350/500 all 2-strokes. I wish I could find a museum or something for bikes like these that also rent them out. Ah, to relive those old days. I know these bikes were not really safe though!
Don't forget the Yamaha rd200😉
if you´ve good experience with warming up, do so. I prefer riding immediately, but not full throttle.
Personally, I never warm them up either. For the sake of the video and the auction that I listed it on, I started it up and did a walk around.
LOVELY BIKE!
Nice looking bike l always did like Yamaha 2 strokes back in the day, are the mag wheels correct for the year?
Yes- bike is completely stock
Not in the UK in 1977.
Very nicely engineered bike, i was a licensed mechanic for Yamaha when these were new, excellent bike all around.
Nice. My engine is weeks away from completion. I will post some videos!!!
Mi fiera ya. Rugeeeeeeee. Ruuuummm
I see you sold it for $3k. This bike is a work of art, Great job
yea, $3K was the sale price. I feel like I should have gotten more, but these small CC bikes don't bring the big money (unless its a Honda CT or Z50). Anyway, the new owner was pleased when he picked it up in person. It was a pretty fun bike but I needed to sell it to make room and funds for the next project.
I have owned 2 of these S-32 just like the one in the pictures. One as a Sailor in my Vietnam years on a ammo ship. I drove it around Port Chicago CAL. Tragically my ship sailed to Vietnam and I had to leave it at a Motel in Vallejo California. And my current one here in PA which is a red color.
you ever wonder if the one you left in chicago is still on the road?
@@sbaugrud6281 Yes it would be great to find out if some has it and restored it. They are great bikes and Suzuki bikes had a heavy chrome plating on them,so it took them years to even have a hint of a piece of rust
I have recently begun restoring a '66 Olympian... What kind of battery are you using?
sorry, just saw this post. I got a battery from Farm and Fleet. Cannot recall which one but it was one of the smallest AGM batteries they had. It was actually a little big, so I filled the extra space with foam. It really doesn't require any significant CCA to start this little bike.
What pipes are you running ?
Higgspeed out of the UK
Original spec is 18/20HP. :)
Nice! glad to see you kept it injected, versus "deleting" the oil tank and injection system. Super clean bike, and it sounds killer!
A9❤🎉40e9odosñpañeñepspa
Good thing, because deleting injection would blow it up . Suzuki injection directly injects to crank bearings. Without they don’t get proper lubrication
Nothing comes close to the sound of a twin cylinder two strokes......so badass
Smoqp😂😂😂🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤❤
Great job! Love the tank/graphics you chose and the sound!
Sss
Sounds awesome! What size Pilot Jet did you use?
