Orcas in Shetland
An encounter with seven members of the 65s pod of Killer Whales near Lerwick, Shetland, on the 18th of July 2023. The massive bull, known as Busta, has been recorded in Scottish waters for nearly 20 years, and was seen alongside a tiny new calf. Seeing these iconic apex predators in British waters has to rank amongst my favourite all-time wildlife experiences.

Shetland in July
มุมมอง 6611 หลายเดือนก่อน
A week in Shetland in the very far north of the UK, where we experienced some of the most iconic wildlife these islands have to offer. Puffins, Common Seals, Gannets and Great Skuas, Red-necked Phalarope and Storm Petrel were highlights, but the real standout moment was our encounter with the 65s pod of Orca, including the gigantic bull known as 'Busta'. Music is 'Far, Far Away' by Beat Mekanik...

The Amazing Common Swift
มุมมอง 2695 ปีที่แล้ว
I found a dead swift on the pavement on my walk home, so I thought I'd use the opportunity to talk about some of my favourite facts about this wonderful bird - especially their incredible ability to go for ten months or more without ever touching the ground! After I filmed this, I contacted the Natural History Museum in London and arranged for it to be donated to their collections, where it wil...

Kruger: Life in African Eden - A Wildlife Film by Ben Chapple
มุมมอง 26K7 ปีที่แล้ว
A documentary about South Africa's Kruger National Park and the amazing creatures that live there. The Kruger is home to abundant and spectacular wildlife, but life is tough on the savannah. When the park is hit by the worst drought in decades, it brings both hardship and opportunity; all animals, from wild dogs and dung beetles to lions and elephants, must find ways to survive. Film by Ben Cha...

@@RichardvanHaght We organised it directly with Robert Ntakor, who's widely regarded as one of Africa's best bird guides ntakorrobert@yahoo.com. He has a company called Birding Tour Adventures - their website seems not to be active any more but if you can make contact then I can't recommend him highly enough. If you can't then I know Ashanti African Tours (ashantiafricantours.com/) are also extremely good. I hope you manage to go - it's a fantastic country with wonderful birds (and mammals etc)
